Grateful Dead - They Love Each Other (San Francisco 12/27/83) (Official Live Video)

- "One of the few songs in the Dead's repertoire that underwent a dramatic rearrangement during its lifetime, similar to Friend Of The Devil and Loose Lucy. In 1973, They Love Each Other appeared in a peppy arrangement, with a very cool bridge. It was then dropped, only to return in 1976 in a much slower arrangement, without the bridge. It was recorded for Jerry's Reflections album." - David Lemieux

First off THANK YOU for all you have done and continue doing. ✌
Additionally THANKS for doing something not already officially released.
Speaking of releases, what's the odds some of these will be put on DVD and Blu Ray?
Sorry ... how did Loose Lucy evolve? I wasn't aware ...
robert hough 73/74 ,weren't part of live repitore very long.
During that period it was true to the arrangement heard on Mars Hotel. When they dusted it off in March 90 it was a bit slower and "dirtier" if you will.
robert hough It was very fast in the early 70s, they slowed it down big time when they brought it back.
Love all versions but my fav is early ones with the bridge, just has a nice kick to it
Finally some early 80s getting posted. Hands down most underrated dead era
I would definitely argue that jerry was at his best in the 80s along with the rest of the band.
You're so right &1983 was Magical!
@@christopherchandler2570 The dead was always great...But from a musical standpoint, This era was very sloppy compared to their ealier years in the early 70s and late 70s. The late 80s are great but in my opinion the early 80s was pretty rough and sloppy. Jerry and bob looked to be in the worst point of their drug addictions. This show is actually pretty sad. Jerry doesnt seem to open his eyes one time throughout the whole show...And bob was probably smoking crack lmao
Prime heroin years
83' first shows fur me!☠️
Brent years! Thanks for the pleasant surprise!
Nobody's gone through more keyboard players, than the Dead. How I miss Brent, and what he contributed to the band.
BOBBY is one of the finest guitar players ever, and when he was with JERRY..... it was like gold, mixed with diamonds....WOW.......
Gr8phul Gods
I LOVE IT when the camera focuses on Jerry's hands as he plays his stuff, I feel like I AM GETTING A FREE GUITAR LESSON from the MASTER......
Brent was a great player, put his heart in everything he played
Jerry 's guitar work here can cut diamonds.....
The Althea from this show is also fantastic. Jerry looks like death warmed over but his playing is magnificent. Love it when they focus on his hands playing guitar
I'm Grateful seeing Jerry Garcinia in SF. Every show. Luv ya all
Thanks! More early 80s please
I don't understand how Jerry could do it in that state, he was a machine.
omfg .....I cannot get over how kick ass Jerry and Brent are in this song.....1000 TIMES HEARING THIS IS NOT ENOUGH ...I STILL NEED TO HEAR IT MORE .....AND MORE ....AND MORE..........
Though I moved to the West Coast in 1975,my 1st time to see the Dead play was in 1986.Calaveras County Fairgroung..
Struggling Jerry 😕
He's happy now. 😇
✌💀🎸🎵🎶❤🥀🌹
YEAH BRENT......THE BEST....
Yes, they love each other. Happy Valentine's Day 2020!!⚘♥️⚘❤⚘
thank you , peace
So good.
1979-1990 was @GratefulDead's BEST Ever! There's no comparison. From Radio City to Arenas to Stadiums 🏟 filled beyond capacity.
They played like the pros they always were!
Thank you for sharing your music with all of us @GratefulDead
We miss you Brent & Jerry
this tune always appealed to me....the last woman i really loved and enjoyed being around was my grammy...she was so hip and so mysterious, she was 1930's cool, she wore a cap like a flapper girl from 1920.....I'm serious, man, and she still was rocking that in the 1980's....unbelievable....I have known and loved alot of gals, mostly way older than me....oh, goodness, here I am at minight in new haven, and getting all worked up...must be the steel reserve,
I remember being at this show and when TLEO came on I just started crying. Jerry has that amazing affect on people. Miss you everyday.❤️❤️😢
Happy Valentines Day! 🌹😍⚡
Bravo!!!
(~) ;} Early 80's tleo, very nice! Jerry was struggling a bit in this one but nice to see something from 83. Ty! (~) ;}
Lord you can see that it's true🎶
LOVE THE SOLO BRENT DOES HERE..........AND CHECK OUT BOBBY .....WOW....THE BEST ..at what he does so well, with such groovy style.......AND JERRY ....OMFG.....GREAT GREAT GRATEFULLY GREAT .....
OH YEAH.........JERRY AND BOBBY TOO.......THE BEST ...
77 was tops for them
Nice to see some 80's get some Love, Please do an 80's show next for Dave's Picks please !!!!! #1983 💀⚡ 6-18-83 from Saratoga would be a Great Dave's Picks !!!!!
I was at Saratoga..soggy day?
Naked dude during little red rooster on the then upper balcony , though I was cablamied !!
I would absolutely love this show released, but I don't think there's a soundboard of it. One of my favorite Scarlets though, wow!
B day show for me. I'm on board
brent tearing it up!
love that they dug out a gem!! Did not see that coming #1983
When we die we awake in San Francisco 1965 golden gate Park and get to start the whole trip over
goddam this song slaps hard
Understated, not entirely incompetent
My idea of heaven,I awake from a dream, and the Dead are doing an acoustic set. They open with 'Whiskey in a Jar';then go straight in for a lively version of 'Peggie O.'
Beautiful vibe of a performance, shining quality.. but we're on the official channel here!! Let's get that audio cleaned up and mastered?!?!
Brent at 3.30 having some fun with the keys
I had that same Weir outfit and haircut in 83 - 7th grade :)
“You gotta try to see a little further”
Seriously though, a little Further concert would be awesome.
Furthur is the best post-Jerry band. Only got to see them once though.
they were going to do a Furthur reunion at Lockn but it was cancelled

MY ONLY COMPLAINT ....is I cant turn up the volume loud enough on my PC....( need some bigger speakers, and a wall of sound in my room... lol)..
Yay ! Previously unreleased !
This one really swings ⚡⚡⚡⚡ 💀💀💀💀💀
'They're on a dizzy ride on you're cold sober'
I would like to play this song on my wedding.
This was my parents’ wedding song and their friends in a band played it
May propose to my GF w this playing …
Thanks for the change of pace, David! I was wondering when yall were gonna stop milking that Giants Stadium show
That was a good show !
@@stormyoutdoors4845 i agree. Went to see it at the movies and bought it too. Just teasing really
@@Steiny_ you paid for more than your fair share of it! LOL
Ahhhhhhhh
First coment from Mexico!!!

"got two good eyes, but you still don't see"

I hauled a load of organic melons in the back of my Datsun pickup, for my friend to sell.
Can't wait to show this to my girl. Just in time for Valentine's Day. If anyone is looking for a version they could dance to, try 2/26/73 on Dick's Picks 28.
I love the fast bouncy versions of this song from ‘73. Not so much the slower version.
6-9-77 Hunter's Trix 45
THANKS TO YOU...I WILL check it out ....I LOVE THIS SLOW FUNKY VERSION THOUGH...IT IS TRUE......
DUDE THAT VERSION IS FROM MY STATE THANK YOU SO MUCH. I NEVER KNEW THE DEAD CAME TO NEBRASKA
The Oklahoma City TLEO from '73 imho is the best version of this song. Before they slowed it down and took the bridge out.
Please get the Shakedown Street from that run on here
Nice piano solo
Somebody get Brent a real piano. His terrific playing held back by that plinky electric piano.
somebody help me ....still living in the student ghetto some 35 years after college....would like to find a honey, there are so many, i feel like some wierd uncle...they call me 'uncle spunnion!!"......oh well, at least i'm enjoying the ride.
Wasn't this the last set of NY shows before they got kicked out of SF civic center? Otherwise known as urine plaza
Why's it's so damn quiet?!?
Should find one with even more noise in it haha
Pls somebody tell me the first names so g
I like the fast 73 TLEO
@@guywoodhouse4684
JGB does do the slow version better but Jerry's 73 solos on Alligator are so good!
73 versions are hands down the best!!
@@guywoodhouse4684 u can never go to deep or far out , 73 for sure hands down ... well or up whichever u prefer
@@guywoodhouse4684
No faster than Might as Well, Dire Wolf, Sugar Magnolia, US Blues, All Over Now, Promised Land, Johnny B Goode, When Push Comes To Shove, etc. Some songs are fun to bop and bounce to. They don't all have to go deep but like at Baskin-Robbins, we each have our favorite flavors.💀🌷🍦🍧🍩
@@garrettwelch9489
Definately! And they played it almost every show in 73 it seems. There's so many great boppy versions! 😋
What is that staticky drum sound? Looks like Bill's kick, I think? Seems like a good opportunity for just a little cleanup, or was it supposed to sound like that!?! It's the one element that feels really out of balance.
There's a lot of issues with 80s soundboards. It's why they don't get officially released very often. Because of the way the boards were recorded then, they don't really have the ability to remix things completely, hence the obnoxious kick.
That "plastic-y" kick drum sound is very common on '83 boards. As a drummer myself, it drives me nuts too.
Not to mention it's super freaking quiet! I had to crank my stereo to even hear anything.
Bill Graham had also brought Carlos Santana, and David Lindley.
I love this content and this series but LOL this was already available on youtube and in higher resolution, somehow. Can we get some Summer 94 or something?
Poor Papa... already lookin’ beat by 41
83 was Jerry's worst year for physical appearance. He looked much healthier by 85.
@@staggerlee4979 Lol
Mix sounds kinda thin
Top 5g
Merry corre, navegando hacia arriba y hacia abajo
Merry run around, sailing up and down
Buscando un empujón en alguna dirección
Looking for a shove in some direction
Lo tengo desde arriba, no es nada que puedas detener
Got it from the top, it's nothing you can stop
Señor, sabes que hicieron una buena conexión
Lord, you know they made a fine connection
Se aman, Señor, puedes ver que es verdad
They love each other, Lord you can see it's true
Señor, puedes ver que es verdad, Señor, puedes ver que es verdad
Lord you can see it's true, Lord you can see it's true
Podría pasar su tiempo en otra línea
He could pass his time around some other line
Pero sabes que eligió este lugar junto a ella
But you know he chose this place beside her
No te metas en el camino, no hay nada que puedas decir
Don't get in the way, there's nothing you can say
Nada que necesites agregar o hacer
Nothing that you need to add or do
Se aman, Señor, puedes ver que es verdad
They love each other, Lord you can see it's true
Señor, puedes ver que es verdad, Señor, puedes ver que es verdad
Lord you can see it's true, Lord you can see it's true
No es nada, explican que es como un tren diesel
Its' nothing, they explain it's like a diesel train
Mejor no estar ahí cuando se dé la vuelta
Better not be there when it rolls over
Y cuando ese tren llegue, no sabrás dónde ha estado
And when that train rolls in, you won't know where it's been
Tienes que intentar ver un poco más lejos
You gotta try to see a little further
Se aman, Señor, puedes ver que es verdad
They love each other, Lord you can see it's true
Señor, puedes ver que es verdad, Señor, puedes ver que es verdad
Lord you can see it's true, Lord you can see it's true
Aunque harás ruido, ellos simplemente no pueden escuchar tu voz
Though you'll make a noise, they just can't hear your voice
Están en un viaje vertiginoso, estás sobrio
They're on a dizzy ride on you're cold sober
Se aman, Señor, puedes ver que es verdad
They love each other, Lord you can see it's true
Señor, puedes ver que es verdad, Señor, puedes ver que es verdad
Lord you can see it's true, Lord you can see it's true
Espero que creas que lo que digo es verdad
Hope you will believe what I say is true
Todo lo que hice, lo escuché primero de ti
Everything I did, I heard it first from you
Escuché su informe de noticias, sabía que se estaba quedando corto
Heard your news report, you knew you're falling short
Muy pronto no confiará en ti por el clima
Pretty soon won't trust you for the weather
Cuando llegue ese barco, no sabrás dónde ha estado
When that ship comes in, you won't know where it's been
Tienes que intentar ver un poco más lejos
You got to try to see a little further
Love this tune but the mix is ruined by the kick drum mics. Click click click click click click
Can’t believe Jerry is 41 here. Yikes.
Jerry definitely embodied the Bukowski quote, "Find what you love and let it kill you. Let it drain you of your all."
sjf 440 dude loved music, heroin, and chili dogs and milkshakes
83 was a rough year for Jerry. Check him out in 86. Looks much better.

It was downhill from 84 on? LMFAO!! I was on the bus until 8/9/95!!
'83 & '84 should be erased from all GD history. By far the worst 2 years they had.
84 was great!!!
I would have to disagree. Hampton 84 Niagara Falls , and New years were outstanding. Jerry was whacked but the shows were awesome. The shakedown from New Years is legendary. Merriweather opened with Casey Jones 84 Kicked Ass, Big time I was there and and Jerry was on Fire.
@@stevesharkey470
7/3/84 Kansas City is my favorite 84 show. I found a great Charlie Miller board on archive.org.
The last NYE run at the SF Civic was phenomenal and Ventura was on fire!! Oh, and the Friday The 13th Greek Dark Star show!! 84 was a fine year! 💀🌷
@@staggerlee4979 I totally agree Stagger Lee!!
