This is why knowing the business is so important. This is why Unc Vin is so important to hip hop not just Naughty. Salute to the Queen and Shak. They need to offer a class.
Nothing but love and respect, but what I'm hearing here is that they weren't keeping up with their royalties, if they were owed 12 years of money. Why don't they have someone managing and staying on top of that?
I, Detox Jones, was under the assumption that they assumed they were collecting royalties for all their work. However, when you slow down to a grind like we all did in the pandemic, you have enough time to focus on what's important
Yeah Something seems off here. I'm a Songwriter & one of their SROs either BMI or ASCAP tracks things like this. If they have their own Publishing Company they're the ones who should have been tracking this. How did they not know that they weren't getting Royalties for 12 years?
@@xoxxobob61 exactly 12yrs don't sound like they are bussiness minded to me 😂 or maybe they knew and was letting it build up so they can get a lump sum
@@Ukboss1 The problem with Lump Sum payouts is that the Gov't. taxes you at the highest rate instead of filing Income taxes yearly & allowing for itemization, deductions, etc. This was sloppy if non existent book keeping.

Vin talks like being a hustler on the streets makes you immune from being shafted, especially in that era when good information is hard to come by. They were blessed they had good mentors along way.
Y wouldn't your attorney tell u to check that publishing? & to the shady publishing companies, y didn't they call u guys? They will just let millions sit there in publishing royalties!😮🤔🤔👀. But I've never heard 1 white artist say publicly that they had publishing issues.
I think a lot of people are embarrassed to talk about their financial situation and be honest about what's happening in their lives. We praise Vin Rock for conveying such stories like this.
Paul McCartney sued to disband The Beatles due to royalty theft and mismanagement. It happens across every genre, but hip-hop was different because EVERYBODY was eating except the artists.
Don't make the mistake of assuming this was a race thing. The industry has been screwing songwriters since day one. You have to consider that very few megastars wrote their own music, so the people most affected by the publishing are behind the scenes and haven't had as much leverage or resources to fight for their just due. The stories are out there, but they have mostly gone under the radar since songwriters generally aren't household names.

They will tell you anything so they keep your money!!! Act like it’s your fault for not knowing! Without reparations doing business with those type companies is redundant!
I’m very happy the group finally did their due diligence with their publishing but why were those guys clapping? Listen carefully, he didn’t get all of the money that was owed.
Who wrote and produced the naughty by nature songs, because he’s using the word our, and as far as I know, treach was writing the songs , and the other guy was producing i.e. doing the beatss
Yo Vin,have you checked to see if they shaved some icing and replaced it back knowing y’all could ask for it at any time…cuz They could’ve taken some royalties, and leveraged it for something and replaced what they initially took. And they could’ve taken what they shaved and flipped it (the street way too) and put it in stocks .Check on that too cuz that might yield wayyyyyy more!
I don't think no region has complete dominance anymore but I do miss when the East Coast was the place to be. We have a huge resurgence with Drill music out here now though
