I played this song the morning when i turned "50. I woke up and thank the good Lord for giving me "50 years, I prayed to the Lord, I laughed, I cried and then I danced and this was the song I danced to. GOLDEN YEARS
That is awesome. I am 60 and from this point on... every birthday I have left on this earth I will start the day with this new tradition. Love it. Thx for sharing.
For those wondering, the musicians are lead vocalist-guitarist-saxophonist David Bowie, backing vocalist Warren Peace, guitarists Carlos Alomar and Earl Slick, bassist George Murray, drummer Dennis Davis, and pianist Roy Bittan.
Class person. A reporter from the Kansas City Star related that he got there 40 minutes early for an interview and David said "Come on up." He got over an hour. Try getting that from today's so-called superstars.
I did not get into David Bowie until far later into his career. I am glad I did because he is a true artist with a large catalog of amazing songs. He will be missed indeed.
the production on this track is amazing the claps and snaps Bowies vocal range is highlighted he was so ahead of his time yet aware of whatever moment he was in what a supream being he is ...
I may only be turning sixteen next month, but when I looked around on my local news website and saw the report on David Bowie's death, I felt saddened, and I knew I would have to tell my mother when I woke up to go to school this morning. I did just that, and she was saddened just like me. As for my stepfather, I will tell him when he wakes up. My mother said David Bowie was a "cool cat" and I believe her. (By the way, do not say I should be in school by now; my county is on snow schedule at the moment.) Rest in peace, David Bowie, and you might just run into my father up in heaven.
BOWIE! "THE THIN WHIITE DUKE"! GOLDEN YEARS IS MASTERPIECE OF ROCK-SOUL DANCE-DOO WOP-FUNK. THE SONG, VOICE, MUSICIANS, PRODUCTION, THE MIX KIX AZZ TO THE BONE. I'VE ALWAYS LOVED THIS PIECE!......."DONT LET ME HEAR YOU SAY LIFE'S TAKING YOU NOWHERE.....ANGEL...."
Always loved his music. But Golden Years is my favorite. I hope he was able to enjoy his "Golden Years" without suffering very much. That probably sounds very stupid. But I didn't know he had cancer. RIP Bowie. You had so much talent that will be SO missed.
First song I thought of ~ among the 100's of DB favorites... Don't know why. Who ever does... Had many many great memories to David's songs. Rest It Peace David
this song makes me so happy when I here it it's like I'm young again cruising in a car, with no worries or no one to answer too,fuk everyone it's my life additude
Great Song....:)) I've met David Bowie in person... Outside a hotel he was staying at whilst in concert in my home town... Nice guy... Down to Earth... For a Star Man...;))
Gone...but never forgotten. #RIPDavidBowie true talent..... he is and always will be missed...... I always love the snapping/clapping sound at 0:54 and throughout. :)
Had it not been for a short-lived TV show called ironically "Stephen King's Golden Years", I wouldn't have known about this classic David Bowie song. Rest In Peace, David Bowie.
Man it was amazing when they played this in the Simpsons episode when grandpa Abe and the other older folks danced with the toys :) it seems silly but u can see how any gesture can make them happy.Call your granparents folks they will be happy and they deserve to leave us someday with the nice memories and a smile on their faces :))
Great comment, Man! I'm as much surprised to see a black man listening to David Bowie as you must be surprised that a white man like me is listen to The Temptations; The Supremes; James Brown; The 5th Dimension; Otis Redding; Little Anthony and the Imperials; etc., and, Jimi Hendrix. Rock-on, Survivor2002! :)
Surprised? "Golden Years" was a big crossover hit when it came out, on many soul stations as well. The clip of Bowie performing it on SOUL TRAIN is posted here, too!
