Although hard to see with my lousy camera, there to the East (to the left of the highway) was a sea of green of Saguaro cacti, about 15 miles deep on either side. There were so many cacti, you'd almost think it was a field of grass. There were so few cars, you could park in the road (as I did on occasion) and simply snap photos for 10 minutes, glancing down the road to see if anyone was coming.
