@Kyler Rogers Listen man, just because you have a hard time with it doesn’t mean she shouldn’t have fun. Also, some advice is to just keep practicing. Try practicing scales with a metronome, try doing various excersizes, and do some simple jams. You got this, soon, you won’t need that concentration face.
Imagine being consistent with practicing for 5 years... I've had my acoustic guitar since I was 11 and my electric guitar since I was 17-ish. I am now 21 and still can't play shit and I'm starting to realize that being too harsh for yourself when it comes to practice and progress is a killer for your fun in music. I always wanted to be too good too fast so I would practice furiously for 2 days and then not touch my guitar for weeks/months/years out of frustration. Rachelf is the living proof that FUN is all you need. As long as you're having fun you WILL come back to practice and with time you WILL get better. Never ever punish yourself for not being good enough yet.
Never relay on motivation or the 'fun' your are talking about! What u need is a commited discipline to go untill you achieve it because sometimes It will not be fun at all, u are meant to be frustrated/ playing guitar is a high level skill and it doesn't come that easy! But if you have decipline you will do it whether you like it or not. And you should have the mentality to become too good and too fast, infact the best. Just make discipline your foundation n you won't give a shit about anything else but your goals. Good luck
She perhaps has a family member a MUSICIAN she taking lessons from someone who is very good.obviously. the first day she had her wrist and her fingers in their proper position that's almost 100% almost impossible for anyone to do in one day, unless a family member is a musician or there is a very good instructor to place her hand in those position using her fingertips. Saying that because I'm a guitar player of 45 years Plus! I notice little stuff like that.
When I grew up and started playing guitar back in 1968 1969 era it usually took about five years for person to be a good player. And that's playing a lot!
Hey everyone :). It's hard to believe that it's already been 5 years since I started playing guitar and almost as many making RUclips videos! This video shows my progress and process learning over the years featuring clips from each year. It's always difficult to decide which clips to choose for the video to make sure that it isn't too too long, but I tried to pull in a good representation from each year to show my whole journey! I had a lot of fun looking back again at everything I've learned so far and am excited as always to keep learning more in the years to come. This year I didn't record quite as many covers, but I tried some new things like attempting to learn songs/riffs live for videos and for the finale I learned my first tapping solo! Not quite up to 100% speed compared to the original EVH recording yet, but getting there and it's super fun to play! Now I have calluses on my picking hand as well as my fretting :) Hope you enjoy the video and thank you so much for your support here over the years, I really appreciate you all!
I was wondering if you were going to include the blackened riff. 75% is quite a feat. I love carol of the bells too. You nailed it. Question how long did it take you to do vibrato? I find it hard to get my fingers to wiggle the strings.
You're definitely a metal person, and that's very cool! 👍👍👍👍👍 It's your musical journey, but perhaps you may like to explore more melodic playing like David Gilmour or even bluesy rock like that played by Robby Krieger of The Doors. Getting feeling in your playing is always a good thing, and the blues is always a great place to start! 👍💖🎸😎

Well it does matter. Having a sebring vs an ibanez. Or a strat vs lp. One always sounds different and makes it easier to play. That and getting a new guitar makes motivation more prominent
Pickups make world of a difference, especially when it comes to heavier music. Single coils present in the strat we see in the beginning are good for e.g. funk, but can not handle high gain distorted sound too well. On the other hand this is precisely when the humbucker pickups of the Ibanez superstrat shine. So sometimes the guitar indeed does make a huge difference :)
Seeing how there was still at least half a year of quarantine ahead of us I've decided to pick up the guitar. I have no prior experience with music. I never had something in my life that brought so much joy and pain at the same time haha :D I'm sure you get this a lot but your entire journey is such a big inspiration. I think over the years I've probably averaged around an hour a day, but I've had multiple month long gaps due to injury or travel. The most important thing is just staying consistent when you can, even a little bit a day is awesome! But it's totally fine to take some breaks as well :)

DAMN GIRL!! that's an amazing journey. One question, how does the electric guitar compare to the acoustic? you seem much lighter with your fingers playing the electric. x
Thank you! I don't really play acoustic guitar much, but it definitely requires a heavier touch that I'm not used to! On my electrics I have the string height set pretty low to make them easy/comfortable to play :)
I really enjoyed watching this. Haven't subbed to a guitar youtube channel in like... I dunno? Almost a decade or something? Happy to have found this! :)
Thank you so much for posting this. I've been playing guitar for 50 years, with an incredibly shallow learning curve. This inspires me to finally do the hard work. Thanks again. God bless.
Well done! 2021 is my 20 year guitar anniversary, and I wish I had something rad like these progress videos to assess my playing. I hope you'll continue to make these videos throughout your guitar journey.
I wish I had my own room paid. By parentals and a strat right off the bat... I have one of them $55 dollar ebay guitars and no time to practice cuz I'm always working :(
I cringed when I passed over the ‘self taught’ validation. It’s 2021 and there are thousands of free instructional and lesson material videos uploaded by real musicians and teachers on this very platform. No one is self taught anymore.
This video was such a breath of fresh air for me! I’m a keyboardist who started piano at age 5 (50 years ago), so I have an extensive background in theory and basically just all things music. So when I really started trying to dive into guitar, I got very frustrated because I thought the techniques would develop a lot faster for someone like me. Your video reminded me that working at it every day is the only way to progress. I intend to do just that now- and to be patient with myself. Thank you so much! 🤘🏾

Congratulations on your progress! What I love about your guitar playing is that you seem to be having so much fun! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 As an off and on beginner, you give so much hope to me. Would you please tell me how much time you spent per day practicing and if there were any gaps where you just didn't practice at all? 👍💖🎸😎
I think over the years I've probably averaged around an hour a day, but I've had multiple month long gaps due to injury or travel. The most important thing is just staying consistent when you can, even a little bit a day is awesome! But it's totally fine to take some breaks as well :)
@@RachelfGuitar how do you get your great sound?? Amp or assistance with pedals? What type amp do you use as well as pedals if you use them. Your highly appreciated and impressive!!!
@@RachelfGuitar Thanks for your reply, Rachel, life always intervenes when it comes to hobbies like this. I like your idea about even just a little practice. It keeps your mind thinking about it consistently. I've heard others say the same thing. 👍💖🎸😎
Ive been growing with you i started playing guitar December of 2015 it great to see how far you and I have both come. You are such an inspiration!
DAMN GIRL!! that's an amazing journey.
Wow she’s almost as good as I was in my head at 5 when I got my first guitar.
Thank you so much for posting this. I've been playing guitar for 50 years, with an incredibly shallow learning curve. This inspires me to finally do the hard work. Thanks again. God bless.
Hey do you have any tips on how to efficiently learn the guitar. I mean, even your 4 month progress is impressive
Keep making more videos, watching you play is truly entertaining and motivational.
I wish I did know how to play the Paranoid’s solo after one year damn
I do the Bohemian Rhapsody solo at 5 months and a half, is it good ?
Of course it’s good, I learned it at like 1 years or so I think
i love how you happy you look when playing
You’ve come so far in 5 years, and you didn’t play Stairway even once.
That’s got to be some kind of record! 🤣🤣
It took me 30 years to learn the chords for Freebird, and now I can't stop!
I'm sure she did off-screen. Can't not.
It's amazing to see how far you've come and how amazing you've gotten!
Thanks so much!
@@RachelfGuitar no problem :D
Did you learn by a teacher? RUclips? Or self taught? I’m really trying to figure out what route to go.
That was quite something. Be proud of your abilities - you ROCK!
No please don't remember me that while I'm messing around the others are getting better at guitar
Well done! 2021 is my 20 year guitar anniversary, and I wish I had something rad like these progress videos to assess my playing. I hope you'll continue to make these videos throughout your guitar journey.
Doesn’t matter for how many years you’ve been playin.. what does matter is the hours of dedication and motivation.
I love that you are having so much funnnn!!!
Is it me or Smoke on the Water and Sunshine always the first 2 songs we all learn?
Definitely classic first riffs 😁
I actually learned smoke on the water and seven nation army first
This is really inspiring, is incredible how much you have improved, I will also achieve 5 years of playing guitar in April, keep it up!
I wish I had my own room paid. By parentals and a strat right off the bat... I have one of them $55 dollar ebay guitars and no time to practice cuz I'm always working :(
Lol
Every now & again I come see your progress to give myself hope :)
I cringed when I passed over the ‘self taught’ validation.
It’s 2021 and there are thousands of free instructional and lesson material videos uploaded by real musicians and teachers on this very platform. No one is self taught anymore.
I cringed when I read your comment.
That still counts as self taught.
How much inspiration your video brought to me. I hope to follow the same steps and become a better guitarist.
You look like you're having soooo much fun! Love your videos.
Good to finally hear you really play! :-). 4:34.
Enjoyed your “One Year Progress”. Inspiring.
This video is great, thanks for the encouragement. We all have to start somewhere and this visor of your progress is amazing!
Amazing! You've inspired so many people to play, and all with that wonderful smile. Here's to the 10 year review! :)
Wow.Very impressive.I started guitar at 44 and i guit at 44. Too many informations for my my old brain.Mom should listened when i was 15 and i wanted a electric guitar
Hell yes! I’ve been on this journey for years with you and thankful you took us on the ride! The ending was so epic!
You inspired me not only to start playing, but to keep playing!
Been a fan of you for years and glad you're still going for it!!!
See it's awesome stuff like this that keeps me motivated to keep playing guitar as an adult. I'm 24,been playing for almost 4 years now and have not taken lessons. Yet people tell me I sound good when I play. I always strive for better so I'll be looking for a teacher soon. Love this, congrats on 5 years
I LOVE that the video closed with Eruption. This is honestly such impressive progress. Well done!
I've been watching since nearly the beginning but just recently subscribed. I like how that face if pure concentration suddenly melted into a face of pure joy. Yours is not really my kind of music but I've always admired your passion, enthusiasm and especially your commitment. You're an amazing young talent with 5 years behind you and many more to come. Well done!
You rock! What a journey. Can’t wait to see how far you’ll get in another 5 years.
My daughter also wants to learn to play an electric guitar. I'm gonna show her your progress, you're an inspiration :)
Very inspiring to see your progress young lady! I hope my daughter sticks with her passion like you have and never gives up! Thank you
Congratulations on your progress! I just bought my first guitar in January, and your videos were one of the inspirations that made me believe that I could learn with the help of the internet, and that investing in a guitar would be worthwhile. I am an adult woman beginner as well, and I have a lot of respect for you!
Its easy to tell your having fun, don't ever stop!
That was so fun to watch. Month by month. Good for you for doing that for yourself....thanks
Brilliant, well done. Really useful exercise - look what you can do if you pick up your instrument every day! Keep posting, very inspiring. Xx
Holy Smokes Girl! You have come a long way from listening to Great White & The Scorpions in my truck when I took you & your sister out & about when you were little! I remember you posting when you 1st started this guitar adventure. You have definitely found your groove on it & feel the passion for it. Keep following it where the music takes you!
Youre awesome. Great commitment to documrnting this, as well!
