    Universal Studios Monsters (also known as Universal Monsters and Universal Classic Monsters) is a media franchise based on a series of horror films primarily produced by Universal Pictures from the 1930s to the 1950s. Although not initially conceived as a franchise, the enduring popularity and legacy of the films and the characters featured in them have led the studio to market them under the collective brand name of Universal Studios Monsters. Merchandizing of characters in formats such as clothing and board games which included The Wolf Man, Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Bride of Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon has continued into the 21st century.
    After the Universal horror films were syndicated to television, this led to a rise in the popularity of merchandise based on Frankenstein's monster and Dracula. Throughout the 1960s and into the 1970s, the Universal monsters were promoted via merchandising which included: Halloween costumes, Aurora model kits, paperback novelizations, makeup how-to manuals, T-shirt iron-ons, posters, trading cards, and more. Since 1991, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Parks & Resorts have featured characters from the Universal Classic Monsters franchise. From 2006 to 2014, the characters also appeared in the year-round walk-through attraction, Universal's House of Horrors, at Universal Studios Hollywood. The franchise is also the central theme of Universal's Horror Make-Up Show. The live show opened in 1990 at Universal Studios Florida and is still in operation.
    Universal Monsters or Universal Horror is the name given to a series of distinctive horror, suspense and science fiction films made by Universal Studios from 1923 to 1960. The series began with the 1923 version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and continued with such movies as The Phantom of the Opera, the Dracula franchise, the Frankenstein saga, The Mummy franchise, The Invisible Man films, Bride of Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man series, Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, and Creature from the Black Lagoon. The studio's leading horror actors were Lon Chaney, Béla Lugosi, Boris Karloff, and Lon Chaney, Jr., and the numerous directors included Tod Browning, James Whale, Robert Florey and Karl Freund.

    I remember this on the opening of the Bud Abbott and Lou Castello meet Frankenstein DVD. It's so nostalgic for me because I grew up watching all the Universal classic monsters, I just turned 20 and have seen so many horror films since then but these will always hold a special place in my heart. My dad first introduced me to them when I was little, I absolutely loved them. I was expecting them to be super scary based on the current horror movies but they weren't bad at all, just very atmospheric and entertaining. I can't count the number of times I've rewatched them. I could name almost every actor and director from each film. Kids at my age didn't get it but I didn't care lol. It was nice to impress older horror buffs with the history I knew. Seeing this now just gives me goosebumps, now I hope to make my own horror films after college. Thank you for making my childhood Universal Studios.

      Phantom Of The Opera (1943) with Claude Rains (The Invisible Man).

      @@andrewweisneck1102 It's actually the Hammer version of "The Phantom of the Opera" from 1962.

      @RobertLeininger I stand corrected.
      It is indeed Phantom Of The Opera (1962) with Herbert Lom as The Phantom, produced by Hammer.
      Universal and I mistook it for the 1943 version with Claude Rains.
