No doubt a great amp with tremendous feel and power. Some simpletons might not remember all the tones but they did a great job on this one and the JP also.
Had the JP2C just I didn’t see the point of redundant channels so got the VII and love it! For some reason everyone is stuck with the post GEQ in the classic V config This amp is capable of so many tones and the GEQ lends itself in different ways with experimentation I have found cutting gain can be a huge improvement in modes were the V just dosnt sit well In addition taking advantage of the low watt and adding master volume can sound huge I dial my guitar volume down and the live “in the room” sound is just perfect Another thing I did was take my least favorite modes and work them to sound great for some styles then back to the favorites for quick and easy cleans or dirt
Just curious have you ever tried dialing in this amp using the mid and bass knobs and then tweak the graphic eq? Also, from this video it looks as though your channel masters are all set lower than “1”. I assume your tones will change drastically at louder levels.
The volume controls on this amp are actually pretty transparent, so of course it does change, but not as much as my EVH does. As far as the controls vs EQ sliders, I've had a handful of Mark series amps over the last 15 years, and this has been the method for dialing them that works for me. I've tried every way imaginable to dial them in.
am i the only one that watches this daily.... this sounds so sick im bout to buy a mark V 90w for $1650 which is a steal but dam makes me wanna just save up and get this. From videos ive seen it dont seem like the mark V dials in this way in terms of tone it just seems so heavy and punchy and i just love the sound of this Mark VII.
Tough call. It's more than twice the price of the V you're looking at!! I did have a couple of IVs, a V25, and a V90 over the years, and this one is for sure the best option for modern metal kinda stuff. It has a sharper high end, and it beefs up the low end a bit. The IVs are amazing, and had this nice low mid thump that I didn't find the V to have...but ultimately you won't know until you know, I guess haha. The V may be the perfect option for you, and if it isn't you should easily be able to move it along and save up for a VII.
When you increase the high end on ch3, does the amp's white noise increase? I have that problem with the Mark V (helped by EQ pedals before the amp), and can't seem to dial out the hiss when I want the extra sizzle. Wondering if this problem exists with the VII as well. Also, how's the VII at bedroom volumes?
@@progrocker84 I haven't really noticed this at all, but I do run a gate at all times. With the level of gain I typically use, I can't live without one. I mostly play at home in my bedroom. Once a week band practice, once a month shows. I guess it depends on your definition of bedroom volumes. I can usually get away with being a little louder than most people I know for "bedroom" volumes. So while it's not an issue for me, I don't know about your situation.
Man, I always wanted the JP 2C, but I'm really considering getting this. It just has alot more tone options. Plus I always love the MK 4 mode with the JP doesn't.

I just sold my Mark IV to pay off some stuff that came up and was thinking of buying another one but then I have getting a VII in the back of my mind as maybe the way to go. I only used the lead channel on the IV so it would be nice to have other channels I could use.
I can't really say how it compares because it's been some years since I've had a IV, but I can say that I loved my IVs, and I love this. It seems similar in some ways, but obviously way more features, and I think the VII has a more modern voice than the IVs, but like I said...it's hard to remember. There have been a lot of amps since the IVs.
Hi, I am sorry but it is typically the wrong way to set up a sound in a mesa mark series amplifier. You must set the preamp eq first (round knobs) by ears (not by eyes) with graph eq off, and then adjust the graph eq. You'll get the best tones possible from that Nice Amp dude !
Wrong...there is no wrong here. It's an amp with controls. You set them up how you want. It is a nice amp, though! I disagree about setting the preamp controls by sound. They don't really change the sound a lot, but they do drastically change the feel and response, so I typically set them up based on that.
Feels like the VII mode just needs the EQ out, like an actual Recto (since Rectos don't have the EQ at all), or at least to turn down the 60/240hz sliders down to make it tighter without the bass clipping...just a thought
I've tried it that way, too, and it's just not my thing. It does remind me quite a bit of a recto, though not exactly...and I don't really like Rectos that much, either.
@thewrathofraf right on, I'm trying to decide between the VII/JP2C and the Badlander. I've never really liked Rectos much, but the Badlander is "supposed" to be quite a different animal than the regular recto. I keep hearing good things about it. All I know is that I picked up a Mark III green stripe 2 weeks ago, and god damn does it absolutely crush my ENGL SE in terms of raw aggression and chug tones, didn't even think that was possible.

damn. they actually improved the circuit a lot compared to mark V:90. does anyone miss the extreme setting on the mark v? didn't see too many reviews that include it.
Yes, this was through a cab with a mic. I would recommend downloading the manual and looking into the cab emulation section. They give you specific advice on how to set the levels. But you basically just have to plug an XLR in there. Speaker load is active when there is no cable plugged into the speaker jacks. I don't know about the headphone jack, though.
Dude. I’m sorry your video seems like it’s be nice but there a weird sputtering sound throughout the whole thing that makes it unbearable to watch, specially while listening through my headphones. Please Don’t take this as a mean comment.
Yeah... it's ok. .I'm not a big fan of Mesa Boogie's sound at all. The only thing I like about this amp is the Clean channel. The crunch and Hi-Gain channels are worthless for me.

The inverted V EQ is usually massively tight try that.
Are you playing through a cab on here? I just bought this amp, do you know how to use the headphone jack and cab emulation?
