Yeah, in general NYC has had an identity crisis since the early 2010s. We've gone from riding the chiraq drill wave to the ATL trap wave, to autotune crooning, and now niggas is making drill again but with UK beats from people like Melo808 and AxlBeats. There's still good bar spitters like Joey Badass, Kota the Friend, Bas, and others, but they aren't that as well known as someone like Pop Smoke aside from Joey. In general in NYC you got people trying to ride whatever NYC thinks is hot at the time, people doing original shit and usually not really getting as much attention, staying below the radar to people not that into the music scene, and the old school type bar spitters who don't make club bangers so they don't get that much attention from their home town either. 🤷🏾♂️
