      Ojelabi Gbenga even the drums they used here are Yoruba drums and the Ankara they wear are only worn by yorubas in Nigeria.

    • @genuinediasporan6661
      @genuinediasporan6661 5 лет назад +9

      Ojelabi Gbenga , definitely they are Yoruba. I understand bit of what they said. Of course because of distance and being cut off from their brethren,the language would have been mixed with immediate languages surrounding them. The dance steps is very much Awori. But you must understand,Yoruba generalisation is new. Yoruba never called themselves Yoruba,it was what the Hausa called us and the British while writing about us used the “Yoruba people “. It became popular through Samuel Ajayi Crowther While translating the Bible from English to our language. We called ourselves different names before colonialism,like Ife,Omo karo ojire, Omo odua. In Benin Republic,we are not called Yoruba either. Yoruba are called Anago. Being Yoruba is limited to Nigeria. During slavery the Europeans called us “Aku” from Aku Ile depending on dialects.

      @@genuinediasporan6661 Great explanation. I'm Ewe from Togo and we also call Anago some folks who come from Nigeria. I've always wondered which ethnic group they corresponded to in Nigeria. Now it's clear to me.
