Jeff, please let me know if you ever plan a day field trip in MO, or an overnight extended trip out West. #sidebusiness Enjoy your videos so much. Beautiful scenery !
Will do for sure, I do an extended trip every year out west I was gone 16 days for this trip I may have been gone longer but had to get home by June 17th and did not trust the crazy storms we were having.
Glad to, and its for sure, not a normal family outing, but it's a gamble. However, I guess it is cheaper than Disney but a lot less mascots. Just don't try to Hug Sidney Sidewinder ... 🤣🤣
Haha I know right , he gave me the age of the chert and I was like "Man is that even old enough to be a rock" 🤣 It's a fun place to dig I want to save up and do a couple days there
Thinking you got your money worth. Felt that when you Said you were gonna dig clear through that mountain. You got some nice flashes in some of those smaller pieces too. It's gonna be hard to not want to check on them all year while theyre curing up. Guess Christmas really is in July now.
Luckily I have such a bad memory that I forgot I already put the bag up, I was looking at my jar that has ones init I hadn't put up to dry and thought to my self "Man I thought I had found more than this " then remembered I set them in the closet.. My memory isn't bad. I just ..... Hey, this is a cool channel, and this guy looks and sounds like me 🤣🤣
"Opal's" 😍 oohh that branch you found so very cool. You found some pretty nice pieces! I would definitely pay to dig for it! Just the experience to find your own piece's is very exciting. Thanks for sharing 👋 😁
Next year, bring an ice 9:38 pick or a sharp flat nose screw diver. It really helps to get the opal out of the clay ash. Also, if you need a break from digging the tailing at rainbow ridge are fantastic. Very few people cam get thru a whole scoop. They leave lots of great opal behind.
It's truly an oasis up there. You drive in from high desert, and then it's all lush and green with tons of ponds and wildlife. Even if you don't plan on digging opals a great place to camp
I was, but having paid for the wall and not having my screens, I decided not to. Last year, when I was there, I did see a few folks who had dug wall one day and tailings their second, if I make it next year I hope to stay up there and due at least 3 days , 2 at peacock and 1 at one of the other mines.
Those were beautiful! Looks like a nice place to visit but a little too pricey for a noob like me. But, I think it would be awesome to see a video of that wood expanding in water! Probably be a fun and entertaining experiment. Don’t be tough on Hamilton. He has to work to stay so handsome while your out trekking the country 😂
It's definitely a place to save for and lots of homework before you go ( I'm still learning tricks) The wood explodes usually pretty quick I didn't have any that made it home sadly but next year, I will show it, of course if it's a nice big chunk I will keep it cause million year old wood is cool. Hamilton was so happy I was home when I got back, he was probably mad at me still for leaving, his momma spoils him but not like dad does 🤣
We actually feel cool-ish today. we have had some storms, but we are going to pay for it later today when the sky clears up and the humidity rockets up. I don't want much just a place to rock hound year round that's 65 to 75 degrees and low humidity 🤣
Awesome! I’ve realized my dad has a bunch of this in their yard. He never liked selling anything, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s got a “gold mine” on their 15 acres in the form of different types of rocky treasures….
@@huntingrocks unfortunately both he and my mom have Alzheimer’s, so he would probably go out and help me! He’d probably enjoy having something to do. That’s actually a great idea! Honestly, I’m wanting to find all of his treasures before we get them both into a memory care facility.
Go do tailings on opening day. They have a lot of material that was from the wall that’s unsearched from cleaning up and preparing for the season. Also some really amazing things come out of the older tailings. Two years ago I found an opalized fir cone worth $1200. 🙃✌️ Great day for my $75 investment. Spent $200 of that and found nearly $3000 in black opal with full spectrum of color. I was able to stabilize it and sold the smaller of the two polished pieces. I love the Peacock. ❤️
Heck yeah, thanks for that info, I will try to set my trip earlier in the year, and an opalized pine cone is wild, I had asked if any one had ever found one before and was told they do pop up from time to time. And it's like I tell people it's a big risk, but it's a big reward . In my neck of the woods, mines run from $20 up to $40 but it's mostly quartz , Opal has of course way more value so $190.00 or $75.00 for tailings is something I'm willing to spend. And I, too, love Peacock. I hope to actually stay in one of the cabins sometime or at least in Denio.
@@huntingrocks less than a dozen cones have been found in the 4 generations of mining. 😊 Your spot on about high risk high reward. 💯✌️ Have a great summer. I onow some other amazing spots so keep in touch. ✌️
Thank you. When I started pulling it, I was a little beside myself, and it just kept going, I can't remember if it was in the video but it finally reached a point where it turned to just petrified wood then into not completely petrified, I wish I could have gotten it all out in one piece because it would have made a cool show piece to show off the diffrent stages of mineralization.
HAHA it was indeed I always wonder how many opals I drive over when I head out that way. One of these days though I am gonna get to your neck of the woods and do some opal hunting , you guys got killer ones in Australia
Everyone has to have something that turns them on. These opal mines are in some of the most desolate places in the country. I love the desert and the solitude. Just seems weird to tear up the landscape for a few shiny little gems
Humans have been tearing up landscapes for gems since we first saw a pretty rock. The difference is that these areas are cordoned off, so digging only happens in one small area and can be reclaimed to natural settings (minus the pretty rocks of course) as opposed to say giant quarrys or the plethora of abandoned mines that dot the country side of Arizona, Nevada and California.

This is one of my bucklist places to go!
It's a lot of fun, hard work but high reward
Looks like some great Opals HuntingRocks, kinda pricey though like you said. Thanks for going and doing and showing so we could watch.

Pffftt baby chert. Dude I think you really scored here!

10:42 😮 Nice.
Thank you that piece is when I knew I was going to have an amazing day
Cool! I have been looking forward to your out west trip! Really really good!
Thank you much it was a really, really good trip this year

Thank you, that's good info. I will do that.
I dug around a lot of stuff and brought home more dirt than I really wanted to.
@@huntingrocks As all good rockhounds do
Cool stuff!
Thank you its a great place to dig
@@huntingrocks adding to my bucket list 🤣
That was fun to watch I never watched anyone dig for opals. Enjoyed all the teaching also. It sure was a beautiful area and great finds😊

Awesome hunt. I wouldn’t mind paying that much for good opal.
It's good stuff, I will say I did much better this year but I had a better Idea of what I was doing. I have a feeling Next year will be better.
@@huntingrocks good luck.

Thats crazy how rare they are, And thank you hope you have a good summer too and a Happy Independence day
Hope you made money Jeff . Awesome video.
Thank you, but not yet. I've got to wait for the opals to dry out slowly. Opals are a long game. But even if not I'm super happy with them 😀
First! Woot!! Woot!!!
Hey hey your back, I was starting to get worried about ya
HI JEFF! so glad you are having fun

you didn't mention the rattlesnakes
