And I have watched the Army guards at the Tomb of the Unknowns and seen their amazing precision and dedication. It does not matter if the politicians choose the wrong cause sometimes, the heroism and dedication matters. And these men dedicate themselves to honoring that, and thus, deserve honor themselves.
@@Steve9312028; To put your mind at ease know this, when one of your USAF pilots go down,(it has happen), and they call the USMC Grunts to secure the area so your PJ's can come in and make the extraction the only thing in our minds is to "make it happen", complete the mission so your pilot can go home to his loved ones at any cost even if it takes to SACRIFICE the whole team because when the lead+copper starts to fly we all are BROTHERS an it's worth to give your life for a BROTHER so they can get back to his/her family again.THAT'S ALL THAT REALLY MATTERS!.. Retired Marine of 20 years. Watched this guys train while stationed in Yuma, AZ many years ago. Every day of their week was like boot camp. Just marching in step is difficult, but you add in rifle drills with perfect timing, no commands. Impossible for me. These guys are amazing.
To my Brothers and Sister Marines if you haven't seen the Silent Drill Platoon anywhere they have a schedule evening parades start on Memorial Day and end on Labor Day at the Marine Baracks 8th and I streets in Dc or the Marine Corps Memorial in Arlington. They do travel to many places in the United States and around the world. Semper Fi GySgt USMC Retired.
I was with H & S CO 8 & I for 2 years as a cook from 1970 - 1972. These guys are amazing is right! All day is close order drill movements. Great guys too. They weren't all hung up on ( if you we're a grunt stuff ), I repeat, nice guys!
When I was in army boot camp, one of the junior drill sgts in charge of our platoon literally just transferred in from the honor guard in DC. (Tomb of the Unknown). Needless to say our asses were in fucking step.
Precise as a surgeon, cooler than the flip side of your pillow, deadlier than a cobra... Gives me chills, makes me proud. Pick your arena, NOBODY kicks ass like the United States Marines.

I was a member of an ROTC drill team. We were good. But nowhere near THIS good. These guys are amazing. Every now and then I pull my M1 Garand out and remind myself how heavy that thing is and how insanely easy those guys make it look to toss them around.

The speed they get those rifles spinning is really impressive. I wouldn't want to even imagine getting hit by an 11 pound rifle moving at that speed, it would knock you into next week.
And this is why one must never mess with a Marine, or even any U.S. Armed Forces because of their determination and pride is like having extra armor plating around them during a fight plus they are very well disciplined and focused. I've always enjoyed the U.S. Marines Drill Teams on display because what they do is very impressive and disciplined, when I was in ROTC our drill team was trying to be just like them and we busted our chops trying to do their drill, but we really never got it down like they've done but hey they are just plain AWESOME!

Ask any Zoomer, and he'll say that he can do it in 5 minutes. Then he asks how do one score a goal in this sport. People don't understand this kind of dedication. Especially when it can be a tedious, mindless task done thousands of times in order to do something perfectly. These guys are the showpiece every nation have, and these guys belong at the very top. The discipline at the 8th and I barracks (where they are headquartered) is insane. Not only does this unit train ALL day EVERY day, but they are extreme to every minute detail. Even hours before a perfomance, they are forbidden to sit down because it would crease the back of the trousers!

If you are every in D.C. in the summer, on Friday nights they do the full show down at the barracks at 8th and I streets on the grass parade deck. The Commandant of the Marine Corps along with the Marine Corps Band and other dignitaries are present...it is a damn impressive show. Semper Fi
The U.S.M.C is incredible! If you ever meet this platoon then, and I think I can speak with confidence here, someone is doing something interesting. The precision on display is commendable but I think someone's a bit high. There was someone third from the left who's knee looked a little higher than the others, but I've never been a marine (I am married to one for the last 27 years) so I'm not sure how this platoon ordinarily conducts itself. ;) These guys are amazing!

But nor did I read his comment as being disrespectful to the Silent Drill Platoon. I have the utmost respect for the honorable positions these Marines serve. Additionally, I have great appreciation for the hard work put in by the dancers of the Nutcracker.
Gerald McRaney, the actor, once starred in a sit-com - Major Dad. In one episode he performed with the silent drill team and performed the weapon inspection as depicted in this video. He also marched the gaunlet, where the team is about two arms length across from each other. The team, with great force, tosses the weapon obliquely to the man accross from him. It is done with the utmost precesion and timing. Marine officers and nom-coms, as did Mr. McRaney, march stone faced through the gaunlet as weapons fly immediately in front and in back of them. Each weapon circles the entire formation, possibly back to where it started, before the march is completed. Thrilling to watch! The courage of these officers and enlisted is amazing! Gerald McRaney also displayed great courage as the civilian he is in this perfoormance. I would have loved to witness the rehearsels. Thanks for posting.
Something to keep in mind, especially when they spin and throw them around, is that those old-style rifles are made of wood and steel and are heavy. They look like M1 Garands. If so, they weigh about 11 pounds. It would leave quite a mark if you missed catching one and 11 pounds of wood and steel slammed into your face.
@John Golombek No need to explain. I'm an Army vet, but the combination of the VERY sharp Dress Blues/white pants and the ultra-precise movement warrants BIG TIME respect and pride. As an American, we should ALL be proud to see these Marines Silent Drill Platoon do their thing on foreign soil. It's second to none.
I really wish I had made it out to Norway at least once when I was in. I had my chance when I was deployed TAD for Alpine Warrior in 1990, but just before our unit set off for this exercise, Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait and we got diverted to the Gulf. Always thought I'd get another chance to see Norway, but it never came.

That's why they're called 'silent drill' you don't hear them coming. All that's heard is the weapons and inspection of the weapons.

Gerald McRaney, the actor, once starred in a sit-com - Major Dad. In one episode he performed with the silent drill team and performed the weapon inspection as depicted in this video. He also marched the gaunlet, where the team is about two arms length across from each other. The team, with great force, tosses the weapon obliquely to the man accross from him. It is done with the utmost precesion and timing. Marine officers and nom-coms, as did Mr. McRaney, march stone faced through the gaunlet as weapons fly immediately in front and in back of them. Each weapon circles the entire formation, possibly back to where it started, before the march is completed. Thrilling to watch! The courage of these officers and enlisted is amazing! Gerald McRaney also displayed great courage as the civilian he is in this perfoormance. I would have loved to witness the rehearsels. Thanks for posting.
Something to keep in mind, especially when they spin and throw them around, is that those old-style rifles are made of wood and steel and are heavy. They look like M1 Garands. If so, they weigh about 11 pounds. It would leave quite a mark if you missed catching one and 11 pounds of wood and steel slammed into your face.

@John Golombek No need to explain. I'm an Army vet, but the combination of the VERY sharp Dress Blues/white pants and the ultra-precise movement warrants BIG TIME respect and pride. As an American, we should ALL be proud to see these Marines Silent Drill Platoon do their thing on foreign soil. It's second to none.

I really wish I had made it out to Norway at least once when I was in. I had my chance when I was deployed TAD for Alpine Warrior in 1990, but just before our unit set off for this exercise, Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait and we got diverted to the Gulf. Always thought I'd get another chance to see Norway, but it never came.
