    The uphill athlete book also recommends doing hill sprints and hill bounding. Hill bounding is going up a steep hill with a longer stride and really leaning on the leg. This would also be more specific to the sport of running than regular strength exercises. I currently do just strength, because i don't yet want the intensity in my training phase, but specificity in exercises is almost always king and superior to general exercises. For the pistol squats i would say that one should try to do them full range of motion, so with assistance from a door frame or trx/rings etc., if one can't do them without just yet. Coming up from the lowest position is way harder and also loads the knee in a different way than doing them just to a 90° angle.

    Very nice. Thanks for your tips. I will do this. Jump forward in single leg is also very good to work stability.

    Pretty useful, indeed! Leg strength also helps a lot when it comes to prevent certain type of injuries.

    My daughter was a flyer for an elite cheer squad 15 years ago. She had a wobble disk she would stand on single-legged and watch TV. Incredible balance and strengthening for single leg stunts. A tool like the Mobo board takes this to the next level for sure and could be of huge benefit to runners of all ability. Love mine!

    I have experimented a bit with doing a reverse lunge into a hitch kick and have been thinking a bit more lately about making it part of a routine for working on my leg strength.
    Some of my pre-run stretches require balancing on one leg while doing a repetitive motion and my balance is off on some days, so losing your balance while doing the single leg squat resonates with me.
    If you only think of the single leg squat as a leg exercise you may not be getting the full benefit from it. Anything that requires you to balance on one leg for the duration of the exercise is also a core exercise. The way I think about it is control begins in the core and extends through the legs so think with intention about ho much tension you keep in your core and that core leg connection/coordination and the flow of energy from the core to the floor.

    Respected sir, I watched and attentively listened into your video regarding singleleg exercise for skillful running ,but curiously and interesting enough, you have not mentioned about the fact whether and if a beginner can also run a bit on single leg it self or not . Your Goodself is implored to check into this aspect of this matter and update your video as early as possible in the larger interest of the interested public .with regards. Thanks.

    My favorite is a single leg dead lift. My second favorite is lunges (front, side, and angled).

    I am 6 weeks away from my 1st marathon and just did my 30k long run. Afterwards my calves were quite sore. Would doing calves strength exercises (weigthed calve raises) help and how often should I do it (I normally would do legs twice a week)?

    • @macht4turbo
      @macht4turbo 3 года назад

      You could do calf jumps. In running the motion is a bit more explosive than in a calf raise. Don't overdo it in your first session, see how your calves respond to the work and increase the volume just then.

    Damn, when I read the title of the video, I was sure you we're gonna talk about 'discipline', but single leg strength is of course also paramount ;)

    I always thought of running as a “controlled fall”, when you said we are hopping from one foot to another… I …I feel like …. Ever feel something in your brain suddenly switch? 😐 Just me? I’ll see myself out..😋

    • @JasonFitzgerald
      @JasonFitzgerald 3 года назад +1

      lol the only problem with the "controlled fall" analogy is that you don't fall forward. You fall down. But you run forward...

    that isn't a pistol squat at all...not even close to breaking parallel

    • @JasonFitzgerald

      And it's your mistake to assume you must break parallel for a pistol squat...
