The song made the top 20 the week of June 1, 1968. A few days later, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated in Los Angeles, Calif. What a tragedy!

Horrible year, RFK , MLK killed and the DNC riots. I was 12. At least the music was great

Thanks for posting. This was Sissie's Senior Song for Class of '69. She was taken from us in 1986 and this song helps with the good memories of when she was 18 and gonna live forever.

I remember hearing all their songs on WLS Chicago in the 60s. This was definitely one of their best.

Not a big hit nationally but was #1 on WLS Chicago. Loved playing this 45 at basement parties when I was in high school.

It was big in Central Ohio. I knew the band just by the shortened name,
      Colony 6.

@@margowakefield3295 Didn't know they shortened their name. The song did OK in NY, but not nearly as well as Chicago.

For two years this local Chicago group had nothing but regional success until this cracked the national top 40 in the spring of 1968.
Story was that group members Ronnie Rice and Les Kummel wrote the tune in Ronnie's apartment. After they were done they saw a couple of girls walking by and asked them to listen to the song. Upon hearing it the girls began to cry. Seeing that response reassured them that they had a hit record.

Both these were staples of WCBS-FM 101 in New York up to about a decade or two ago.

Two releases later "Things I'd Like to Say" went to #1 on WLS in Chicago in December, 1968. The airtime it got in NYC helped it's stay on the national charts. By March of 1969 when it peaked in New York it was already played out on their home turf.
