Just paired this Quantum Optix 60 reel (forgot about it in garage for years) with my Shakespeare Alpha Bigwater surf rod as my old reel very corroded. Looking forward to surffishing with it here in so. Cal (using a hi/lo setup with 2 oz sinker) for mostly barred surf perch, baby leopard sharks, and corbina (my favorite) using sand crabs for bait. Feels smooth and easy on the pocketbook. Thanks for the review!
I’ve had about all brands and price points of reels and I don’t think you can beat the quality for the price and function. You probably know you can repair it. Good winter projects.

I have 3 of this same combination with 20 lb. BBG mono. My PB flathead last year was 20# and I caught numerous stingrays in the 30# to 50# range and a whopper female ray that weighed in at 100 when on a trip to Chincoteague island VA. The big female pulled my rod off the pier and into the bay but these float so I was able to jump in and go after it and got it back to fight and win on that big girl. Later that night after fishing, I took it apart and flushed it out with WD40 and then re -greased and oiled everything and it was just like new. These definitely are able to catch big fish w/o having to spend alot of money.
New subscriber. Thanks for the review. My first two reels were Quantum Optix 80 and 60. On my fourth time using them I closed the 80 between the car seat and the door. Needless to say that the handle broke. I was so disappointed. 😔

Good reels for cheap The 60 does flex a little at the handle. But I have my first one for ten plus years maintenance free. Currently have two that are 4 years old and have no problems with just channel cats. 25 pound stingray was not a big problem for it!
How sturdy is this reel? I've had the quantum Blue runner models and they are so weak that when you're pulling in a heavy load the reel actually twists or buckles on the neck. You can even move it back and forth with your hand with hardly any effort.
I haven't had any issues with the reel flexing at the reel foot or handle, and I've caught some big fish on it. I also throw some big terminal tackle rigs on it, too.
@@BlueLineFishing Good to hear. The Blue Runner models were horrible. I have Shimano reels that are half that size that are stronger than the Blue Runner version. Yet the Blue Runner is supposed to be used for heavy freshwater and saltwater fishing.
I haven't fished the Blue Runners, but I do have two Quantum Cabos (size 6000), and they are top knotch surf and offshore reels. But they are $240 a pop, lol. Thanks for checking out the video and watching!
I had the old one and flipped my kayak in the the gulf only thing that went bad was the bearings rusted all to hell, nothing else rusted, if you installed stainless steel bearings which I am right now and cleaned it after each trip, it would be bullet proof.
I've had one for years caught a bunch of big flathead catfish and a huge stripper on it just ordered the new one too my old one on a 8 foot ugly sticks catfish rod putting the new one on a 10 foot ugly stick big water

West coast....so far no real oroblems as its only 1ce a year i can make it down there....i would like to hear more about this sealed reel thing bc this time we will be surf casting ...so this reel cannot make any contact with the sand..is what im hearing in ur vid...
I would not recommend letting it hit the sand. If it would come out of a rod holder and hit the beach, I'd get it apart and thoroughly cleaned as soon as you can.
Those gears looked like white plastic...can you explain...I got one of these reel at local pawn shop and trying to learn about it in Arkansas...there are huge catfish below the dam where I live, maybe up to 200 pounds I have heard, but never seen one in life...I maybe should call the local Game and Fish Commision to confirm that, it sounds too damn fantastic...to me. I'm a skeptic until the facts are proven.

I really like the thing...the one I purchsed used has a 7 foot rod that matches the reel...And I can cast it close to 100 yards...the line runs smooth off the reel with no resistance and never whiplashes...thanks again...I was more of a hunter growing up...I find this interesting. Finally have time to get back to fishing and that is the rod reel combo I went with. Did two of them. Live on the river so it is nice to have.

I have two 60's, one newer, one I've had for years. It has the anti-reverse switch, wish the newer one did. Have two 80's too.

The gears and gear teeth are metal (brass). The washer above the gear disk is a red rubber/ synthetic washer. It's very durable.

A 10 ft. and 12 ft. Ninja Tackle Dagger rods depending on the situation.
