Rosenberg , why would somebody be scared to own their masters? That was a silly question. There is no downside in owning yourself.
The question was were you scared to buy back your masters , if gotti paid millions up front to buy back the rights to old catalog music it is very possible that the catalog he bought back could never pay out more then what he paid for it which would make it a loss to have bought it back. The opportunity available is that he can take his career to the next level with this album he just dropped and keep getting bigger and bigger which will then funnel new fans in to going back and listening to the old catalog which could then become very profitable. He made a bet on himself
@@kowzter That's highly unlikely, the money is in the publishing, he will make back every dime he spent and more, its just over an extended period of time.
If it most definitely would have paid itself off and then some then why would the label sell it back to him ? They would only sell something like that if they believed it was more profitable to take the lump some of cash for it, the odds are that he can make the old catalog in to something profitable but its not a guarantee that he can do that or else they wouldn’t have sold it back to him.
MrMuis06 he probably took the last year to be super low profile and work on his artists so that his popularity could drop and people would stop thinking about his music so that the label would see a decrease in streams and then lower the evaluation of the masters and that is where he bought them out at most likely.
