For the PS4 remastered (came out in 2014, remastering the 2013 PS3 version) version of the game... The red and blue box have no difference. The red box came out later and as far as I'm aware, it just highlights that this game was a particularly well-regarded and well-selling video game on the PS4 (hence the PlayStation Classics moniker). There is a PS5 remake of the 2013 game (remaster is the same game with slightly improved textures and better performance. It also came out with a story DLC called Left Behind. Whereas the remake is a new game (same story, including Left Behind), that was made from scratch. Everything rebuilt anew. MUCH better animations, graphics, better gameplay animations) that came out last year for the PS5. It will also be out for PC this March.
Glad to have come across your reaction! Really well done. You have great energy and good commentary. I like the fact you’re going into this blind and I’m excited for you to get to know the story as it unfolds. I will be quite the ride and that’s I’m going to say. Very much recommend you to play the remake version of The Last of Us p1, the graphics and mechanics are worth the price. RIP Mercy
@@reactionando How good pt. 2 is is a topic surrounded by very stark opinions. You'd be best waiting and seeing for yourself rather than letting people colour your expectations, because the biases either way are *strong* with that game. But yeah, just be warned that you will get very strong, authoritatively-stated opinions about what basically comes down to nothing more than personal taste.
17:30 I cried as well, even though I saw the scene in the game x times and knew what was happening. I like these infected persons instead of zombies. Totally uncoordinated but so damn fast. Scary as fuck! The fact it is 2023 at the end makes it more creepier in my opinion. It happens right exactly NOW! My conclusion after this episode: I've never been so captivated by the start of a series based on a story I know inside and out.
I am totally here to see you two enjoy the game at some point. You know my opiniated comments on DARK and since I played the game before I also had some strong opinions about this first episode. I will try and tag them as spoilers.
2:50 This scene between John Hannah and Josh Brener works incredibly well. Spoiler for the game though: ... The game delivers the same information about the cordiceps directly after Sarah (who I weirdly often call Sara) died in the title and opening credits. The issue simply is that most people are overwhelmed with that scene. They end up talking over the information. I actually warned Lydia and E about that back when they announced they might play the game. But I guess now that they watch the show beforehand nobody can blame me if they cut they reaction to her death short anyways.
4:20 Around this time the show weirdly tells us that Joel has military training with focusing on the bumper sticker. It is a really weird shot and overall I don't feel it was executed well. AFAIR we have the wide shot of them getting in the car, zoom in on the bumper, and back to wide while they drive off. Usually you would either start off with a detail shot of the bumper and then go to wide or the other way round; or even have a partial shot of the bumper while the action actually happens at the side of the car as if we were overhearing it while sitting behind the car; this just feels weird probably because it drive "show, don't tell" ad absurdum: instead of having the action show that Joel is a veteran, we instead are shown a sign reading that he is
10:24 so basically spoilers because I need to ask a question concerning the games ... this is new, right? afair the runners took quite a while to show visible symptoms; their behaviour was more telling; only after a while they would loose their hair and start to mutate, right? I feel like this removes some of the horror because before testing they probably killed a lot of people who showed similar confused behaviour just to make sure
another spoiler tag because of certain changes around here ... so on one hand I would like to adress how the game plays with certain emotions: when Sarah is looking through the house for her dad you basically still feel like she/youare save as all the things happen outside the house; in fact you take your sweet time looking at all the suff until you walk to the study; only when the neighbor breaks through the window we realize that their home isn't save at all and that they need to leave fast in the show instead decides to have Sarah leave that safety and thrills our nerves with her standing in the porch without showing us what happens left and right; and then she goes for the strange noises in the neighbours' house; which makes us question her rational thinking; for what exactly? just to not repeat the game? also notice the already happening change to Joel's character: where in the game he shoots the neighbour and Tommy and him exchange his revolver (was it a revolver or a pistol?) here it is only Tommy with the rifle; instead of telling Tommy to shoot the old lady, Joel smacks her with the tool;
11:47 spoilers ... If you played the game I think you agree that this scene has tooooooo many cuts; sometimes we get the view from the backseat, sometimes we get close ups from Joel in the front, sometimes we get reaction shots from Sarah; just as with leaving the house the director disregards how the scene works in the game: when we identify with Sarah in the back seat she has no control over the situation and watches on as the intensity of the scenes outside increases; when the perspective switches we identify with Joel who has to take care of this vulnerable person we got to know beforehand... but on one hand Sarah was rewritten to be more independent but we also have no clear cut from one character to another; which just makes it less effective
SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE EPISODE. Just to answer some of your questions as you bring them up in the vid. Yes, the opening explained actual facts about how some fungi affect insects... in this case it is Cordyceps. I think those aircraft are maybe taking off. I think those aircraft are maybe taking off. The scenes in the car are mainly shot from Sarah's POV. At this point in the game you are playing as Sarah so if you turn her head you see what she sees. Boston is a FEDRA controlled Quarantine Zone. QZs are probably the safest places to be, but not invulnerable to infected people who risk their lives to sneak in and out with smuggled goods. FEDRA has become an autonomous governing body in Boston and other QZs around the country. Residents may be 'safe' but life is hard and brutal. Depending on where you are bitten, it takes between 5 minutes and 24 hours to become a 'runner' like Nana. The closer to the brain, the faster you turn. Runners are the first stage of infection. The boy in the wheelchair was infected and was basically 'put down' like a vet would do with an animal. As for Tommy's time in Boston; in the game he originally joined the Fireflies, became disillusioned and then left both the Fireflies and Boston. Gonna end with a fun observation while watching... Guess which one of you two guys I would not want to sit next to at the movies. :D
if you wanna put up a spoiler shield it is always wise to start the spoilers not before line 4 like this (still spoilers for the game though) ... The planes might also try to do some emergency landing which would explain why the highway got blocked... weirdly we do not see that but they talk about it because IF we actually saw those scene from Sarah's POV she could try to look at those blocking cars Joel and Tommy talk about; but instead we get these stupid cuts to close ups of the characters talking; made my own comment about that scene; I was really surprised how many times they mentioned the FEDRA. The game certainly had them talk about the military and the soldiers ore ofthen. Almost a drinking game.
@@michaelklaus Couple of things made me think the planes might be taking off. The first plane we saw appeared to be on an upward trajectory and the wheels were not in the down position, at that height they should have been. Also, I can understand planes taking off from Austin to flee what was now a serious event, but Dallas is less than 200 miles away and a much bigger airport so a more obvious choice for multiple planes wanting to land. I could be wrong, of course, but that was my impression which is why i said 'I think' rather than make an assertion.
@@Tristan_Anderwelt LOL, relax. I said I would answer questions as they were brought up, didn't specify who they had to be directed to. And the answers aren't just for the vid posters, hence the spoiler warning.
I’ve been surfing the RUclips for reaction to this show from people who haven’t played the game. Y’all were great, I’m going to have to sub.
Feel free to check out mine too!
Yes! Finally someone like me, who hasn't played the game and did a reaction! Glad I found you and enjoyed the watch! New sub here!
