I've been Self-Cutting since I was ~15. Still jack up my line in back if I go straight in with these new Andis liners, vs using clippers as guide first. Guess that's why I'm an IT and not a barber lol
That’s why U gotta just stay away from your actual hair just try to cut the hang over and peaks and stuff or just slowly edge up to it

Just use your guard against the grain but use a bigger guard when you start and work your way down
