    Hey man !
    I‘m a 21-year old guy from Germany and got a ‘83 924 and currently restoring a ‘83 944 that sat on a junkyard for 22 years. It‘s a pleasure to watch this kind of videos. It‘s incredible how people who got one of these cars always own more of them. I just love the Porsche Transaxle Community !
    Greetings from Europe .
    And much fun yet with what you doing. Keep going!

      @@NC944er Well, I didn't get to choose. But by some amazing stroke of luck I got a brand new sekurit windshield which is the original. I'm all about getting OE parts, and I'm really happy about it. It looks excellent and I hope it seals well, cuz I don't wanna have to buy another DME and KLR lol. @edredas  2 года назад

      I've been looking for places but the market is hot right now so everything is being snatched up and even rundown shops that barely suit my needs are asking $7k a month to rent. At this point I'd rather hold out and try to build something I can own that would be much larger and a lot cheaper, but its probably going to be a while.

    Ed - really enjoy your videos. Really helpful. I’ll be painting my 924s in spring, and watching you prep was great. What color was it painted? I think mine is Grand Prix, but doesn’t pop like your example. Thanks. D

    • @edredas
      @edredas  Год назад +1

      Thanks! Paint color is a convoluted subject when it comes to the 924 and 944. Only the 911 and 928 came in Grand Prix white which was built in Stuttgart. While all Porsches came in Alpine white, the 924 and 944 didn’t get the same alpine white as the 911 and 928. It even had a different paint code, being that they were built at the Audi Neckarsulm plant. So it was alpine white in name only. Meaning it was actually a VW color and a VW paint code given another name. This goes for all 944 paint codes. So if you are looking for the exact match to your original color you would just look it up under the VW paint code. Anything they mix for the Porsche color will be brighter like on this car. To me the VW color is a little too dingy looking. However to use the actual Porsche color is still correct in my eyes. On the other hand the VW red they used on the 924/944 looks better than the Porsche color. Anyway I hope that I didn’t bore you with this convoluted explanation and it was helpful. Thanks!

    To my eye the wheels on this car look a little "off" but perhaps it's just an illusion. It just looks like there's a little extra space in the wheel well like the car is riding high or like the tires are a hair smaller than the stock size. Perhaps there is just a suggestion of more space because the inside of the well is so clean and freshly painted white. I noticed the kyb rear shocks and was wondering if you used kyb in the front too. Why didn't you elect to use koni for this build?

    • @edredas
      @edredas  2 года назад +1

      It was higher once the new shocks were on, but settled down once we got it out on the road. We used KYB all around to give it that stock feel. No need to go overboard since this was going to be his daily driver. Typically, most guys just want Koni installed on cars that originally came with them. I have adjustable Konis on one of my cars and KYB on the others. To me there just isn't enough difference on daily driven cars to justify the added cost so I don't push them on customers unless they really want them as an upgrade. However, we always replace old Koni's with new ones since we never try to downgrade.

    Hey Brent I KNOW you know EVERY inch of these cars, Have you ever come across the FACTORY rear seat delete option??? I believe it IS quite rare, Also do you KNOW if the 968 Rear seat delete option will fit a 1987 944??? I think the interiors were very similar if not identical... Any information you can give me would be GREATLY appreciated.....👍👍👍

    • @edredas
      @edredas  2 года назад

      The rear seat delete, as far as I know was only on the 968 Club Sport. That said, the 968 interior is pretty much the same as the late 944 interior so it should fit. Trying to find a factory delete might be rather difficult given how rare they are but I'm sure someone makes some aftermarket ones. I hope that helps!

    @stampedetrail2003 2 года назад +1

    My goodness wow! Can you tell me what all that cost? It's like a brand new 944 in 1984.

    • @edredas
      @edredas  2 года назад

      Thanks! Something like this would be around $40k. Considering a low mileage 944 would be even more and still need most of the seals and belts changed. This is not a bad option since you can drive the heck out of it and not worry about destroying the value! The owner of this car drives it every day!

  • @NC944er
    @NC944er 2 года назад +1

    My eyes may be playing tricks on me, but the front bumper looks to be extended slightly further than other Euro examples. Did y’all swap the bumper mounts to US Spec shocks or something?
    Either way, I love the look of the Euro bumpers. A lot of work sitting there and it looks amazing! Well done! 👍🏼

    • @edredas
      @edredas  2 года назад +2

      Nope your eyes aren’t deceiving you! The bumper does stick out as far as the US bumper and it was that way from the factory. Since there were no laws in Europe that required bumpers, what most people see on those cars are the flimsy fiberglass caps used as place holders for a bumper that offers no protection. While here in the states our cars came standard with bumpers. Over in Europe they had to tick option M58 to get them. So these are all aluminum and identical to the US bumpers other than the lights in the front bumper. They even use the same impact absorbing shocks. So while it is strange to see a euro model with a rear US bumper and long front one since so many have those fiberglass plugs/caps. This is what the actual euro bumpers looked like! I hope that helps and thank you!
