I highly recommend an antique French clock, if possible a Comtoise/Morbier, since they're pretty quirky and I think would stand out in your collection!
@@DannysClocks Yeah, parts/repair ones go for anywhere between $100 and $400 on eBay from what I've seen, I got my crown-wheel Morbier for $170, and had to buy a pendulum and dial, PLUS make a stand and hands for it!
Hi. This morning I let my mom wind my 173 year old Ogee. Huge mistake. She wound the strike train the wrong way, and when it wouldn't wind, she jammed the crank really hard. The crank got misaligned and is now stuck on the arbor. I tried for hours to get it out, but it just won't budge. To make matters worse, she broke a part it the strike chain ( I forget what it's called) so now it won't stop striking. I am extremely upset, and I don't know what to do. Please help me! Thank you in advance!!!!!! Edit: also congrats on 700 subs! Your almost to your goal! Keep it up!
I can't do much without a video or photographs, even then it sounds pretty bad and out of my control. If so much force was exerted on the striking train, it probably knocked something out of alignment or, in the worst case, broke something. the strip of metal that moves up and dowm for the count wheel may be messed up too. you'd need to take the face off and such, but the crank is stuck on. I don't know how your mother didn't realize to _not_ jam a crank on a 173 year old clock when there was resistance but anyway. sorry to hear that happened.
@@DannysClocks Thank you! Yes I thought it was that strip of metal also. I was thinking of sawing off the handle of the crank with a jewelers saw or something, to take the dial off. The only problem with that is that the dial is original, and very delicate. I'll make an unlisted video, and post the link here.
@@DannysClocks Ok. I have an update. With LOTS of wiggling, my father was able to get the crank off the arbor. I took the dial off, and was very relieved to see that nothing was broken. Rarezee was right, that arm on the countwheel was just misaligned. I wiggled the shaft, and it seems like it went back in place. I'm not going to set the clock off, I'm going to wait untill it strikes the hour to see if I fixed it or not. I'll update once it strikes!!!
@@hellothere9848 Good to hear you finally got it sorted out. :) If your mom winds the clock again, make sure she knows which direction to turn the crank and to STOP if she feels resistance!
@@DannysClocksat least you got a majority of your collection, I have a Howard miller Lewis triple chime (Westminster, St. Michael's, and Whittington) 8 day wall clock that is similar to it, same pendulum design, Hermle movement, spring driven, roman numerals, and a white face. Plus, I understand why.
It depends on the different movement designs. There are videos on RUclips that show how to put older American clocks in beat. you should be able to get help from those.

ah heck. it appears I did. Oh well, it was early in the morning when I recorded this and going upstairs would have woken people up.

As I read in some forums, it is considered common when some old clocks strikes one or two minutes after the correct time. This is correct? Thank you
Yes, this is true. It can also happen one to two minute before the correct time.
Nice 2:07 Minuten
😂😂 2:26 Minuten

Yeah, that's right! The song is called "Swan Lake". It was very popular back in the 70s and 80s, especially on music boxes.
