My volume buttons didn't work on my keyboard. But I noticed that none of the buttons from F1 - F12 worked. So I enabled the HOT KEYS option in the BIOS of my Lenovo Laptop.

Just hold function(Fn) + Escape(Esc) buttons for 2 seconds, everything will return to normal at least for Dell rather then doing all this restarting your Laptop

Revert / Invert Fn key using the keyboard
To revert the Fn keys to their default usage press Fn + ESC key. If you accidentally inverted the Fn keys, you just press Fn + ESC key, then they will back to normal. So you can toggle invert them that way. If this fails you might need to change them in the BIOS settings.

Thank you so much man, it works perfect. There are two simple options: 1. Press fn + esc at the same time. 2. If esc isn't working then press fn + fn lock or lock.

Many of you have suggested using another method to quickly reverse the function keys. This method is Press the FN button and the ESC button at the same time. This will work if your ESC button has a 2nd function key shown as FN LOCK. My laptop does not work with that method. That is why I created the video to show everyone how to resolve their issue.

You saved me so much time! Thanks. I was literally going insane over it as it was fine and just became like this suddenly two hours ago.. updated my BIOS a week prior and it was a huge mistake! The esc+fn didn’t work for me but it might work for some other people

When I follow these steps I end up on a Startup Menu with options that are different than the ones shown. Which do I select?
advanced/system options/launch hotkeys without fn keypress (disable)

Finally i found a tutorial that works. I have the same computer so that is probably why it worked for me.
I was surprised mine stopped working out of no where. But luckily it was a quick fix.
This process took a long time and on windows 11 the uefi settings have different options. Thank you to the other comments that helped.
WOW. Thank you SO MUCH for this. To everyone commenting, no, not all computers have that "fn and esc" capability. I had to go through this process for it to work. My volume buttons are now working like they're supposed to because of him!

Thank you so much, Filip Tech. This tech problem was created by the most recent Windows 10 update all of a sudden. Some people are saying "just press Fn + Esc at the same time to solve this problem in a second." But, it didn't work for my Lenove Yoga c930. Your method worked for me perfectly.

@@adimudoo okay u will do the same thing in the video but in the last ur problem is that u don't have configuration, I think is main or something like that u will click on it , then u will choose keys volume and click the 2 line, in the last u will do the same thing in the video.

Fn Esc never worked for me but this process may seem long winded to some but fixed my laptop keys straight away 10/10 very happy. 😎

I searched and quickly came across your video for the problem I was facing, volume/brightness, etc. buttons issue. My laptop was doing all the same things you were describing for the buttons as disabled. I followed your video step by step and was able to enable the key settings to return my laptop button functions as they were without using the fn key. Thank you!

I was no longer able to control the volume with my "touch pad" and after watching your video, I then realized that the volume keys on my keyboard were also NOT working. (in my case, the rest of the buttons/keys from F1 thru F12 worked fine) But I tried your tip anyways and it fixed BOTH problems! My son had been using my laptop and I noticed the FN had been reversed. He is 5, there is no way he went into the BIOS to change the settings. SapKotas comment was exactly what it was, he had hit FN + ESC and locked the FN key. (think CAPS Lock for FN key).

OMG Thank you so muchhhh!!!!! It's the ONLY solution that worked, and I'm here after trying out 7-10 different things. The Esc+fn did NOT work for me, but this definitely did. Thank you!!!!
So I changed it back to the original settings but it’s still the same I have to hold in the FN key even tho I’ve double checked it’s to the standard setting ... strange. However I did think my volume button was broken (I don’t use the other keys so didn’t try them) so I was gonna get someone to look at the laptop so this saved me money yay.
Change the Fn key lock on Lg Gram:
1. Go to the 'Lg control center" (which can be accessed by pressing 'F1' on your keyboard)
2. Then go to 'System Settings'
3. Scroll down to 'Hotkey mode setting'
4. The setting will be on 'Not use' -> change to 'Use' to turn of the Fn key lock.

due to my work flow for photoshop and other 2d 3d software shortcut my function key requirement was opposite of yours but it helped me to know what did i do wrong i was playing with the bios uefi settings thanks mate
The careful way you explained everything was really helpful actually. My buttons switched randomly, and I wasn't sure what caused it. I'm still not sure tbh. But Esc + Fn didn't work since I don't have a Fn-lock, so I needed a clear tutorial on how to do it in BIOS. And man, it was like my old DOS days. XD

You earned a subscriber, now I didn't go your route as I did end up finding a better solution. Press your functions key fn and also the shift at the same time and hold. Shift is sometimes our fn lock button

Thank you so much.👍 I've been trying to figure out how to turn up and down the volume using the keys on my laptop. It's giving me the volume symbols above the left and right arrow keys but I didn't understand why. It's the FN key that makes it work.

I found a way that helped me. You must press fn, shift, and esc at the same time. If pressing fn, and esc at the same time doesn’t help. Add in the shift key.

Nothing worked for mine. Other F-keys worked, but not the mute nor volume ↑ or ↓. I did just see the system wanted to do a restart and update. So I did that. And now it all works again. Not the Fn+Esc nor anything else, shown in these videos, helped.
