I'll have to read the rulebook to be sure, but to me, defeating scarabs sounds like clearing taint crystals in Defenders of the Realm, or cleansing skulls in Return to Dark Tower. Those are not the most "exciting" actions, but are necessary to keep the game from defeating the players. It's also about being able to put "we" before "me", which is an important player trait when playing co-op games.
Appreciate this review! I love co-op games (like the Loop!) but my gut instinct when looking over the mechanics of this game was that the whole day structure and closed off rooms seemed more fiddly/convoluted than, you know, fun. The character progression still appeals to me, but I'm thinking I might wait until retail to see what more people think once it's in people's hands. Very useful honest commentary!
You brought up the loop as a similar game. If I love the loop, do you think I'd enjoy this game? And what do you think about the replayability with only 3 monsters?
I feel like the text of this review could have been almost directly transplanted from Tiny Epic Dungeons... Aside from the manual for this one apparently being good ;)
Usually reviews convince me to back a game. This review convinced me not to. It does look good but those two pieces, the not fun scarab battles and the time track issue make me cringe enough to say: I'll play this if someone else buys it, but I won't be the one to buy it. It does look well done however!
That’s only part of it. Characters have cards, powers, recruits, lady wierdwood, other player abilities , and more that may add attack or block even before dice are rolled.
@approots After my comment i did watch some playthroughs. There where some aspects of the game I really liked and lot I did not, including the combat. And in any case, I think it is a bit late to join the kickstarter now 😁
I had the pleasure of meeting Mike Cassie at Essen Spiel and playing this game. It was super fun! I'll definitely back it.

Looks intriguing.
How is variability / replayability?

Hmmm...I love the loop and only like weirdwood
Ty for this video!
I'm looking for a hidden movement game. Should i choose Mind MGMT or Sniper Elite: The Board Game?
Beast is a great hidden movement game.
Both are great hidden movement games. I think Mind MGMT is slightly easier to learn/teach. Pick which theme you like best.
@@danielpowell7973 i am considering that also. I will watch the playthrough. Thanks
i've been looking at City of tbe Great Machine, have you heard anything about it?

Lol fair

My goal is to inform, so if in any way it helped you make a decision I'm glad :)
@@BoardGameCo It was a good review and helped inform me to make a decision. Thanks.
Thanks for convincing me that this game is not for me.
It sounded so good until you said that combat is resolved by rolling swords against shields..
That’s only part of it. Characters have cards, powers, recruits, lady wierdwood, other player abilities , and more that may add attack or block even before dice are rolled.
