    I own the 60mm 2.4 Fuji. Lovely lens!!!

      Same here. Not a true macro but a lens I use almost daily. Such as whenever you see the product close up on this channel, it's likely shot with the 60mm f.24

    Kupiłem ten obiektyw i jestem bardzo zadowolony.
    Jest genialny za tak małe pieniądze.

    I just got it, its honestly a struggle to work with, but I use the focus assist on the X-T5. Even more fun is adding the Mieke Extension Tubes to this and getting some serious close ups.. I dont do professional or commercial, so for the price its a great experimental macro, but def had the same conclusions you had!

      Great to hear, and using the tubes sounds fun!!

    Nice review. I read some comments about the critical part of the throw range being fairly short compared to other x macros like the xf60 and 80.

    Would love to see a couple of portraits. The 90mm equivalent lends itself to a nice mid-chest headshot. Would be nice to see the rendering in this area of photography.

      It's not really flexible for general shooting. I used it for the intro clip and found the focus range was very limited for that distance.

    I own an OMD EM5 III and am interested in the 7 Artisan 60 macro.
    I assume the orf file will not have an Exif. One question, do we have the full settings in the viewfinder when shooting ?
    Sincerely
    Thierry

    Well done. Hope you are having a great weekend Damian. Would love to see how this would do for portraits or just general shots isolating a subject and not so much for close up work. Many different kinds of macro lenses do well at non-closeup work.

    • @DamianBrown
      @DamianBrown  3 года назад +2

      Thanks Eric. I think when I mentioned it is really designed for Macro work I could have expanded a little to explain the focus range is just not there for general shots, not particularly. I found that when I tried to focus on myself for the intro clip, I didn't have much focus to play with at all.

      @@DamianBrown Could you explain that a little further please? That opening shot looks fantastic. Do you mean it was hard to focus??? Had no depth of field? Couldn't get separation from the background??? Not sure what you mean. It may be very obvious what you are talking about to more experienced shooters, so forgive me if this is Noob question. Thanks, Campbell from NZ. I Just bought an XT4 and I'm now looking for a lens (s). I could get this and a 12mm 2.8. OR spend a tiny bit less and just get the Samyang 12mm F2. OR spend a bit more and get a Fuji - 16mm 2.8 WR Lens. Mostly hiking, shooting video, vlogging, some photos. (What are your thoughts?)

    Looks a nice lens, I was interested but could only find it for sale out of China and here in ireland we ALWAYS get hit by customs. I found a used Laowa 65mm 2:1 2.8 macro for sale [twice the price but worth it IMO] , bought it and it's like new - very happy, excellent quality lens, zero CA even wide open against the harshest lighting - but, I'd have settled for this and had change left over - the Laowa does up to 2:1 but tbh 1:1 is more than enough for my needs, I think if you can get this one without worrying about extra charges, and you're just casual about macro, then I'd say go for it.

    • @DamianBrown
      @DamianBrown  3 года назад

      I still need to play with that Laowa properly man :(

  • @qam93

    What would you recommend/choose for macro-photography - 7Artisans from the video or TTartisan 40 mm F2.8, when it comes to image quality and bokeh? Let's say price isn't the most important factor.

    • @DamianBrown
      @DamianBrown  2 года назад +1

      Out of the two this one purely because of the focal length

  • @lesscubes
    @lesscubes 3 года назад +3

    I think "De-Clicked" is the wrong way to look at this- they're saving machining and quality control time by not having to machine and index the aperture ring for detents. Saying it's for smooth aperture pulls in video is a marketing cop-out.
    Still looks like a nice piece, I might pick one up.

    • @aminabdollahzadeh5762

      Agreed. It's a cost saving exercise rather than a feature aimed at a particular style of shooting.

      I'd have to agree!

    7artisans makes some nice stuff for the price. As i already own Fuji Film 80mm macro. I wont be getting this lens. But i do own 7artisans 7.5mm fish eye. Love it. And it sits well with all the native glass, with image quality.

    A bit late :) I picked this lens up last month for the reason stated - wanted to try a bit of macro on a budget - and yes, thanks, it's turned out to be a nice little investment! Solid build, silly lens cap, but some nice image quality.

    Hello Damian, thank you for an informative revew,. Would you recommend this lens for copying negatives (35mm & 120) onto a camera with an APSC sensor?

    • @DamianBrown
      @DamianBrown  Год назад +1

      It's possible yes, not super forgiving if you're slightly off the focal plane but yes it's do-able

  • @srri8912

    Do you think it's worth buying these lenses considering that cell phones these days take very close close ups...maybe larger than 1:1!

    I have not used an actual marco lens before. I have been finding reserving mounts and stepping rings or extension tubes (or all three at the same time) have worked pretty well in my experience. I have used my fujifilm OG lens and some vintage Minolta MD lens. Get a really nice colours from the minolta, cost me a fair bit less then the price of this marco lens. Plus the minolta I use them as they was intended to be so get twice the function from them.

    • @DamianBrown
      @DamianBrown  3 года назад

      Now you got me wanting to go hunt for some Minolta lenses!

    • @B.A.N848
      @B.A.N848 3 года назад

      @@DamianBrown Yeah I'm on the hunt for some more a decent Minolta. Like the MD Rokkor 24mm F2.8, and MD Rokkor or Celtic 135mm F2.8, MD Rokkor 200mm F4. Then I will have all my Minolta lenses I want in my collection. Just need to pick up x-pro1 to leave it Arcos or Mono Chrome. Save me money in the long run on 35mm film for my x700.

    Good day, Question. I just picked this lens up from Amazon. I noticed if you shine a light from the back of the lens looking in the front. Looks like glitter around the edges on the in side? Does your lens look the same? Thank you William

    How does it compare to the Laowa 65 and Fuji 80 ?
    Do you feel the lack of Af in Macro
    And, ist this lense weather resistant ?

    • @DamianBrown
      @DamianBrown  Год назад

      Hi Tom, sorry for the late reply. I haven't tired the LaOwa but the Fujifilm is really good, way above this. However I prefer manual focus for close, filling the frame, macro so this is a good compromise.
      I don't believe this is weather resistant, but I'll check. I haven't got it anymore
