@tainta It is not easy to get a licence. Not easy at all. The test is as hard as anywhere else. The testers are as stringent as anywhere else. If you're not good enough, you fail. If your not good enough, you get lessons until you are good enough to pass. simple as. Most people don't need 20 lessons, but if they did they would go get the lessons themselves, because they would fail otherwise. Yr criticism of provisionals has merit to me, but I don't see how that has much to do with this
@taintabird sorry, correction: when I said "I really doubt it would not change the attitude of motorists." I meant: "I really doubt it would change the attitude of motorists."
@taintabird when i said "wud sending them 2a school hav made a difference?" I was talking about the driving schools in Germany, not their literal education/academic achievments. Just in case you interpreted it that way
@festyosemtex Yes I believe it would as they would be shown the result that reckless driving can have in full on graphic detail, not the dressed up versions of the tv adds, they are also shown interviews with the survivors of sever road accidents who explain the impact their accidents had on their lives ant the lives of their loved ones. For sure it wont work for every one but if it works for some is that not beneficial ?
@RonanMarkey1 That's not expensive in Germany it would cost double that and you have to have a full licence before you ever get on the road, no such thing as a provisional licence. That's what should be done here and then people would respect their licence, it's just too easy in this country .
@taintabird but the cost of it would be twice the 20 lessons idea! I think this 20 lessons idea is useless, I really doubt it would not change the attitude of motorists. I think the schools idea would be an awful lot better, but the problem with that is its implementation - the financial burden on the learner could cause huge problems - As I said before, such expense in acquiring a licence would discriminate against the poor, no? how do Germans afford it?
@festyosemtex Agreed most people don't need 20 lessons and there are indeed some who with three times that still wont master driving, but because of the slack system in this country they are still driving around on provisional licences. The system is not half tough enough. Lets face it he amount of idiots that idiots around like the Nenagh feins just go to prove the point
@festyosemtex To be honest I think the 20 lesson idea is a waste of time its not going to improve anything, road craft is not the problem. The problem lies with attitudes, towards the system and towards other road users and you cant rule out the "it wont happen to me" syndrome well news flash it can. I believe when you have seen the aftermath of a traffic accident in all its gory detail as the rescue workers do it will certainly will change some attitudes
@festyosemtex Unfortunately you cant legislate for plonkers which these guys have went to pains to prove they are, that being said its wrong to speculate on their academic achievements although I think it highly improbable that they are rocket scientists on a day out. Indeed its not all about provisional drivers there are plenty of so called qualified drivers out there who equally have not got a clue.Better awareness through education would be a start.

So that's what Santa does for the 364 other days.
Somebody is going to gain € from 20 lessons - it should be 10
Weld the accelerator for anyone that has been driving for under 2 years, including myself, simple as...

Great. I hope they are fined AND jailed. Sadly there are thousands of young idiots out there who think that dangerous driving is funny.

@festyosemtex As far as cost the Germans seem to manage, that's not say they find it easy.
