Forgotten/Abandoned Willat Productions Studio in Culver City/Beverly Hills CA!

  • Please note: Upon further inspection, there is a good possibility the "Witch's home" building was right next to the green street signs marking Willat/Hoke Intersection. It would make more logical sense. In this video, I pointed out the opposite end of the studio site as the location of the home. Either is possible The limited photos available do not pinpoint a specific place as the surrounding area was fairly desolate. All-in-all that property space was the original location even though the exact location of the home cannot be identified and confirmed at this time. If I had to put money on it, I would say the opposite side of where I mentioned in the video aka where the intersection sign was at 6:40

I was born here, with a family in this business, never heard of Willat Studios. Makes me wish we could interview some of the older silent film stars from back then..Maybe they would have known it…
Also, LA did go through a time where buildings were definitely trying to advertise themselves , ike the Brown Derby Restaurant. It was a fascinating time.

Do you know if the building of the Brown Derby is still there and recognized yet? I only know about it of course because of the episode “L.A. at Last,” on I Love Lucy. Which I’m sure is how most of us know it as, considering we’re fans of this channel.😀❤️

I truly love seeing you enjoying yourself in having fun doing what you love. You are even more of an inspiration than you can ever imagine to many people right now with all the forced shut in going on everywhere! You know, if someone isn’t having fun doing whatever it is they do in life - most especially for their livelihood, they really, really need to find whatever it is that they do irrefutably enjoy, and make that what floats their boat day in and day out. It looks to me, and anyone else out there who takes notice that what makes you such a blessing to so very many who watch these programs of yours is that you have definitely been very blessed by the One who made you , because you are so very much loved by Him, bud!

I luv all thing historic especially around your area in reference to Hollywood... my great, great aunt was Zazu... she was best friends with Mary Pickford, Rudolph Valentino and the rest... she wrote a candy/dessert cookbook in the 30's highlighting the stars of those days favorite recipes. She was more of a comedic actress but stared in the longest and considered the first psychological/dramatic movie ever produced "Greed"(silent movie), directed by Von Stroheim originally over 9hrs long but the director was forced by the studio (MGM) to edit it to condense the time, only about 24 ppl ever saw that version.. final version released was about 2.5hrs (though some sources say a little more and some a little less)... because of the volatility of the film back then a lot of the footage was destroyed but thanks to TCM they remastered it with production stills to fill in missing footage as much as possible and they show it once a year. TCM's final version is 4hrs.. at the time a box office and critical flop but by the 50's it was considered the greatest film ever made. My apologies for going on about it but like I said, I luv everything historical but especially to do with film, T.V. or Hollywood in general. Thanks for taking us along and for posting ✌

What REALLY blows my mind -- and I had NO IDEA -- or wasn't paying attention -- is the fact my very best friend is directly related to the Willats! LEARNING SOMETHING AMAZING EVERYDAY IS PRETTY GREAT - if you pay attention! If you are in Los Angeles for Halloween....this is the place to go trick or treating. They dress the part and hand BIG CANDY BARS out to the kids and the ADULTS. The music coming from the house is heard around the block. It's a huge event, I had no idea. HURRAY!! Yes I love your on location videos.
That Witches House is really cool. The attention to detail is extraordinary. Surrounded by all the normal houses, this one stands out just like the Munster's House stands out in it normal suburb. 🎃 Thanks for making this video!
Question...I lived in Westwood for a short time while i was working in LA. Is this house near that area?

The "Witch's Home" looks like something out of the Addam's family or a Looney Toons cartoon. Pretty sure the lady who once lived there ate Hansel and Gretel lol Sweet video Rick, doing more of these wouldn't be a bad thing ;)

I’ve been by there a few times and always paused to ponder that house. Hard to believe that they moved it?! It looks so fragile. Aka the Spadena House for the family name I’ve heard.

This was a great video! I’ve always enjoyed your “on location” videos, (the I Love Lucy museum in New York was the best), and if you make more, that would be great, but given your busy schedule, I understand completely if they aren’t as frequent, cuz it takes a lot to create and edit a video, especially ones as well done as yours!
On a side note, I remember seeing a movie directed by Willat called “Behind The Door”. It was very dark. Not sure if it was made at that studio though.
Anyway, great video! Thank you for all the great work you do!

Also, the Willat House shows up in the wicked 1965 film THE LOVED ONE, used for the location shots of Sir John Gielgud's home. It was a perfect setting for his character, an eccentric British expatriate working as an art director in the cutthroat LA film industry.

When I was a kid in the 60’s, my mom was a waitress at a coffee shop in Culver City called Ships/Shipps. Anyone ever hear of that?

Hopefully the "witch's house" is placed on some preservation list to protect from destruction in the future.
