I still have mine I was born in 1995 and I think this box set it the first movie I ever saw it’s the oldest memories I have is this box set. Years later when my parents switched to DVD they gave a way all our VHS tapes but I saved this box set I have moved out now and still have it with me even though I haven’t seen a VHS player in years

Growing up with this box set, my life felt retconned when I re-watched this the other day and, to my surprise, heard "Hondo Ohnaka" narrating. It's nice to realize Jim Cummings went on to play a character in this franchise.
@@zanfear I dunno, man. I like the way the blades look here more than in the newer stuff too. Occasional flaws in the rotoscoping aside, the blades in the original versions of these films feel like they have more dimension to them. Certain shots where they're being held at a particular angle relative to the camera give them a slight "flat" look, like there's still a sharp blade shape being formed by the beam. The newer editions and the newer movies all make them look like a thicc stick made of light.
So did my Aunt and Uncle! We watched Star Wars with them and I was totally hooked as an eight-year old! They lent us the box set which we watched the hell out of at home, I think eventually we gave them back to my Aunt and Uncle and they sold them since they got rid of their VCR player.
Of course, the original Star Wars Trilogy was one of the biggest motion picture events in film history, a timeless classic filled to the brim with nostalgia!

I know there are better quality versions (and mine are probably degraded because I've watched them a million times), but its about the whole experience of THESE versions that I watched as a child.

Given what we've recently learned from Forbes, hard copies of the original cuts might be the only thing Disney can do with Star Wars that is sure to make a profit at this point. Putting them on Disney+ sure ain't gonna cut it.
No, it is the original version but remastered and probably the best looking quality ever. I transfered my copies to DVD-R being they are such great quality and the picture and sound is phenomenal. I hate the Special Editions. I was thinking about getting the Despecialized set, but I don't like paying for fan work. If they ever release them officially in the future, I will definitely get them. As of now, I'll stick to my DVD-R THX copies from 1995.
@@clamshell6863 you don’t pay for fan work as that’s against copyright law, Harmy said you must own a legal copy of the films to download the Despecialized Versions. Harmy’s work though is incredible.

Looking back, they basically were saying "hey special editions are coming out next" last chance to own the original versions. Even though they were a bonus disc years later.
And even those were just cheap Laserdisc transfers from the 1993 home video release. They're not the worst way to watch the theatrical cuts, but they're still far from the best. And the theatrical versions definitely deserve a proper standalone DVD/Blu-Ray release. I don't know why George Lucas was so hellbent on sweeping the theatrical cuts under the rug. I can understand the Special Editions being his definitive vision of the Original Trilogy, but he could still give his fans the option to watch the movies without all that extra stuff.

No one cared at the time because DVD was still a couple of years away and as far as anyone was concerned then, there had already been dozens of VHS releases up to that point so it felt as though it would still be widely available for the foreseeable future. No one really had any thought that VHS and Laserdiscs would be dead formats in a few years time.

The reason I ask is because i have the unaltered trilogy on vhs and i would love to learn how to transfer my vhs tapes into the computer not to post on RUclips but so that when the tapes and/or VCR wears out and they will someday i can still watch them. George Lucas should have left the films alone after the first Special Edition edit. Later releases increasingly made more dubious alterations. They werent kidding when they said this would be the last time they would sell the star wars trilogy original before the special edition where they changed too much of the original cut, its difficult to find the original without seeing the new version of it nowadays
