Again and thank you for this video I just retired not too long ago we bought a small little hobby farm looking to have a couple cows on it. I grew up on a small farm as a young man, things have changed in a lot and 45 years. Getting some good ideas. This video was very informational.
I planned on raising some beef to slaughter and have heard two opinions: your opinion about letting them roam free and the other opinion about pinjing them up for a fat cap and tenderizer. Have you experienced with both and which yields the better meat?
My feed out lot is 5 acres. It always has a cover crop growing. Lots of good nutrition in addition to the grain supplement. Normally I have at least 3 going at a time so that gives them plenty of room. My grandparents used to put them in a tight enclosure. When it would rain they’d walk in knee deep mud. It stank like manure constantly. I don’t see how there isn’t a parasite problem in a situation like that. My preference is to give them plenty of room, something green to eat and shelter from the elements. They are always fat and happy. My steaks cut like butter.
