Padre Pio is one of my mother's favourite saints. She wasn't a devout Catholic but she had a few favourite saints that she always prayed to. She was very sick back in the 80's when she was pregnant with my sibling... the hospital told her she could lose the baby and that the next 24 hours were critical. There happened to be a Relic of Padre Pio's in the hospital at the time and the priest brought it to her and prayed. She recovered and to this day believed it was him who saved her. She now has end stage dementia and is living ten years with this terminal illness. In December last year she contracted covid. We were told that if she didn't respond to treatment within the next day there was no more they could do. We were called to her bed side where we placed a Padre pio souvenir style relic (that she always carried in her purse) up over her bed and prayed the Rosary. She recovered and is still battling away!! Faith is a powerful thing 🙏 🙌 ✨ Buíochas le Dia
You're lucky to still have her, make the most of every second..l lost my mother a few months ago and miss her so much, she also had a strong devotion to Padre Pio. God bless.
No rational person would ever say religion has no place in society. However the religion must be relevant to those people in that society at that time. The Catholic Church never left the Middle Ages and this is the problem with the Catholic Church. Survival Of The Fittest is Adaption and Change. If an entity be it biological or social will not Adapt and Change it will disappear. The Catholic Church must adapt and change for the modern era. For example allowing Priest's to marry would be a start. Lots of other Adaptions and Changes required of the Catholic Church being in touch with planet earth being one of many.
