Always remember that Laura, when you get right down to it, is just a pilot and a dispatcher. She is explaining facts from the source materials but may be incorrect or out of date. You should always follow your primary guidance (Aircraft manuals, government regulations, etc.) before listening to anything from this RUclips channel. These videos are intended for educational purposes only.
i didnt realize it until my second time watching. The Dispatcher here was my Dispatch examiner! Great lady, very professional and knows her stuff!!!
That’s so cool! Thanks for letting me know you liked it and that you passed your test!
@@LauraLaster747 Also thank you for your efforts of making this information available Laura! I was binge watching your videos while i was in Dallas training for my dispatch certification last month.
That’s so cool! Thanks for letting me know! I’ve never had anyone tell me they have “binge watched” my videos before!
so good! It's too rare for someone to introduce these things, especially how their NOC work
I’m really glad you enjoyed it! I’m taking another class there for an in person in just over a month!!
Im on my way to Airline dispatch school in Dallas, Texas beginning July 1st. I can't wait!!!
Wonderful, I wish you the best!!
What is it like being a dispatcher? What are the requirements?
Well done, and a very cool look into Southwest. Thanks for doing this.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
AZA flight disaptch says thank you very much! very intersting video
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Cool! Thanks for the post. I am currently studying for ADX as a career switcher (from finance to aviation). Your channel is great.
I'm so glad you are enjoying the channel!

I could be talked into coming out of retirement watching videos like these.
@@dpm-jt8rj Ha! Yes, I get it!
@@LauraLaster747
Are tours open to the general public? I have a LEO + aviation background with ties to Dallas.
@@dpm-jt8rj The way I've gotten these tours was that I know some employees in their NOC who helped me arrange the tour. They don't give tours to the general public that I'm aware, so you do need some sort of employee connection to visit these airlines. Or become a student pilot and then nearly any airline will invite you to an open house for a fun tour Recruitment of pilots has really changed recently, and more and more airlines, especially smaller ones like Envoy and PSA, are opening up their facilities through open house days at their company headquarters.
OK, I found my dream job! The NOC at WN! I'm not an FAA dispatcher, but that would be my dream job certainly. Are those FAA registration numbers on the moving sims? N201, et cetera? That was a really nice tour, thank you. Really nice P.R.
You're welcome! The numbers on the simulators tie into a master FAA database of all simulators in the country of this level. Specific airlines get simulator-number specific approval for their flight crews to train in them. Some airlines and/or training schools allow other airlines to rent time in their simulators.
poor guy he just passed the Meteo exam with flying. colors !!! 😀
The funny thing is that the dispatcher asking the questions is a dispatch FAA examiner too! And yes, he did great!
Whats Great Videos---Thank you so much!. I will watch for more.
So glad you're enjoying them!
Wow, that first employee that is featured in NOC sure knows her weather. Do you have to be an actual accredited meteorologist to have that position or did she just go through a lot of other training specific to that position? Also, kudos to the guy who she was asking questions to for actually knowing his stuff.
Yes, she's actually an aircraft dispatcher FAA designated examiner (called a DADE) so she sure does know her stuff! You do not have to be a meteorologist to be an aircraft dispatcher, but most of us are very into knowing aviation weather!
Awesome. Thanks for the info.
Learning weather theory is pretty much 50% of the dispatch course you’ll go through at any FAA certified school. The remaining meat is regulations and applying them. Most schools also offer extra courses for ETOPS, EWINS (which is what lots of Dispatchers get as padding for their CV- certified to create a weather report and dispatch based off of it) and AIFP.
Great video. Thanks
I thought this video was released recently until the weather lady said “733” gosh this was a while ago
I think that video was filmed in 2016, so yes, it was a while ago. Thank you for watching!!
Enjoyed the video and learned a lot. Thank you. Scene to scene transitions could be smoother. It would be nice to let those speaking finish their thought before cutting to a new scene.
Thanks, I had some difficulty in editing this one because one of the two tour guides told me (after the tour was ended) that he did not want to be in ANY of the finished video...so the editing was choppy! I'm trying to improve though!
So, interesting! This has really got me thinking about dispatching! I've been around aviation for most of my life but never really considered dispatching. Do you see the demand growing or shrinking in the future? Any tips on learning more about the realities of this job before I think about investing money into the licensing? I'm 51, btw. Hope that's not too late! Thanks for making these videos.
Hello! I’m glad you’re interested in dispatching!! I believe the demand for dispatchers should continue as aviation is forecast to continue to grow (Boeing and other projections) and dispatchers are unlikely to be replaced anytime soon. Even if someday the pilot crew is reduced to one person or even zero on board - with the aircraft controlled remotely - big IF there - I believe dispatchers will be retained for the monitoring and planning functions. I’d suggest if you know someone who works as a dispatcher, see if you can job shadow for a few days so you can get a good preview of the work before you decide to go to school for dispatch. The other great thing is that dispatch requires no FAA medical and has no mandatory retirement age. The oldest dispatcher has worked well into his 80s! So you could still have a long career if you wanted to do that, even starting in your 50s.
@@LauraLaster747 hello! Actually due to my career planning I was looking for those important ideas about future of this job(dispatcher) and I m 33 yrs I believe I may have a career at least 10 15 years in the future:) So thank you so much for your sharing..🙋🏻♂️🙂
@@burakcak7422 You are welcome!! Great to hear from you, and I hope you do continue to look toward dispatch as a career in the future.
Just saying, the thumbnail shows an Airbus a321 wing, while southwest only flies Boeing 737s...
Great eye! That's called a Boeing/Airbus "I was working late and had too much to do and grabbed a stock photo through Canva when making video thumbnails" winglet...:-D
Is that WSI Fusion SW uses for weather? What program does Southwest use for flight planning and performance calcultions?
Yes, they use WSI Fusion. Their flight planning and performance are all in-house developed programs that are their own proprietary systems.
Is the NOC and TOPS the same thing?
The NOC is in the TOPS building, I believe. TOPS is Technical Operations.
Laura Laster Oh, thanks for the info!
@@LauraLaster747 The NOC is the Network Operations Control, which is in the TOPS building. TOPS stands for Training and Operational Support. It houses training for ground ops and inflight, as well as the NOC.
@@tomcatjuno Thank you for that additional info!!
chicken == voodoo!
Bwahahaha!
why do you able to visit ?
I was able to visit through a friend of mine who works at Southwest.
Noc Noc who's there. Not your ✈plane it got lost again it landed at the wrong airport.
Ha Ha!
whats with the rubber kitchen about? 🤣
I think maybe you mean the rubber chickens? Was that what you were talking about?
@@LauraLaster747 ohh yeah! Typing error! Haha! I meant chicken!
@@isaacpestpreacher5175 I am told that long ago, the simulators at SWA kept breaking. The maintenance guy's solution was to hang a rubber chicken on the sim to keep it working (maybe keep "gremlins" away??) Apparently, when they moved the sims at one point, the rubber chickens did not get moved, and the simulators started breaking again. They replaced the rubber chickens, and the sims got better. Now it is some kind of company lore about keeping rubber chickens around to keep the sims running well.
@@LauraLaster747 hahaha might as well get me a rubber chicken in my Cessna, tires keep bursting even on better landing lol
@@isaacpestpreacher5175
Noc not who's there?
Yes it's funny how each airline calls it something else...NOC, IOC, SOC, SOCC, etc.
YES.
