This week I show and discuss my Tendril Dress make and modifications I made to this pattern. I used linen fabric from my stash.
Also, I made a simple top using Vogue 9258. I added a zipper in the back instead of using a hook and eye. I added antique lace from my collection to lower edge.
Fabric was part of my mother’s stash, cotton calico print or ditzy print.

Love the dress, beautiful. Thanks for all the info you gave on folding it in half and increasing the scoop neck. I am planting flowers today. Need to get some basil and green peppers and tomatoes to plant. Will sew some this weekend hopefully.

Hello, Diane! Thank you. I got many compliments on my dress while in FL. One thing about linen or linen blends is the fabric is cool to wear😊 I love fresh herbs. I used to have a herb garden years ago. I should plant a container garden type❤️

Hi Cheryl, I like that dress! It's such a pretty color ☺ Yesterday I got a good amount of a Jenna shirt sewn up. Hopefully I'll be picking it back up to do sleeves and buttonholes etc. I've just traced off 3 patterns that I've not done before and I've picked fabric that I want to use for them soon. Have a great weekend!

Thank you for watching and your kind comments. I love that dress. I’m not happy with the added pockets so those may have to change to another idea I found. The top is okay, but way too big. I’m going to scale it back about an inch on each side seam.
I looked up the Jenna Shirt and I love that shirt! Sometimes I wish we could share pictures on comments😊 Happy sewing❤️

Love the dress Cheryl! I’ve never used a pattern from a verb for keeping warm but I’ve looked at them many times anyway I have that same Vogue pattern and now I’m tempted to make it up your top is SO cute! Good to see you Cheryl 🤗

Thank you, Gini. I’m loving my dress except for the added pockets. But people tell me the pockets look fine, so maybe it’s just me being too picky🤣 I love my top. It’s really comfortable, but I need to take it up some in side seams.

@@bluegrassdreams2seams510 I wondered how the pockets would work in the bias seams? I’m sure they do look fine but I’m curious if that bias seam makes them sit funny?

@@thebigsewalong I never thought about that. Maybe that’s why I think they stick out. Maybe I should have done an opening in the front and made pockets into the skirt, also cut on bias. I found a picture that has pockets on the front of linen dress.

Your dress is so lovely. It looks so cool and comfortable to wear, too. As to your top's closure, in the past I have actually added a loop of elastic and a shank button instead of a hook and eye. I've used both colored pony tail elastic and taken a sharpie marker to elastic cording depending on color. I find that it is much easier to close and the little bit of stretch makes it more comfortable to wear as well. I find it easier to close than a zipper, although I don't mind a zipper when needed.
Right now I am in the process of making a couple of sewing machine covers. I wanted to add pockets, but the fabric that looked good when held up to a swatch in the fabric store just doesn't look as good as when both pieces are held side by side. So I've got to scour the stash for another fabric or just give up on the idea of pockets. I even bought contrasting thread to use for decorative stitching on the pockets. I've got all the pieces quilted so, the assembly shouldn't take too long after I finally make up my mind about pockets.
I hope your serger can be repaired and you don't have to wait long before you can be happily serging away on it again!!!!

Hello, Nadine. I love my dress with the exception of the pockets. I need to change something. The side seams don’t lay correctly. I thought about a loop closure. I have all kinds of colored elastic I purchased at Let’s Sew in Evansville, IN. They sold it during all the mask making and decided to continue carrying it.
Your machine covers sound nice. I’ve been thinking about that. Quilting is not something I’m very good at doing. I’m challenged when it comes to doing anything quilt related. I hope you have something for the pockets because those can be nice. I have a machine quilted piece underneath with pockets. Stuff gets in the way sometimes but I love having them there; quick clean up😊

@@bluegrassdreams2seams510 I am *not* a quilter either, but I wanted to do a better job of protecting my machines. My thought is if I am going to have to look at these everyday, I wanted them to be nice so it seemed that a quilted one would be preferable. I don't enjoy rolling up the project and manhandling the bulk under the machine while trying to avoid puckers. My hat is off to all those people who do this on a regular basis. I still haven't sorted through my fabric in search of the pocket material. I took a quick detour with a striped lightweight cotton fabric and a shirt pattern. Ooops.
