I wish you were my next door neighbor. Son , what a giant of a job. I told the coffee drinkers this morning about your swap and they said I was crazy . Won money on you today kid . Thanks and keep those videos coming . Once again , great job .
SLIM....you are the man. Made me think of my brother, years ago...always had his head under the hood, worked 12 to 14 hours at Tool and Die, come home work into the night for extra money to buy a bigger house, give his girls everything and pay for the wife.....I don't wear hats nor caps anymore but, my beret is off to ya
I just want to thank you for this video. I'm doing a swap in a Taurus. I searched for days before I found your video. It gave me all the answers I was looking for. You sir are the man..
pfun41, Thanks for making these videos, just finished my sons 2001 4wd Escape engine removal with 2003 Taurus 3.0 V6 going in. Would have been a real pain in the ass without this guide.
Excellent video pfun41! I just did the swap this week and used your video as the how to bible. I did use an 04 taurus motor and valve covers as it has the pcv valve in the rear (right) valve cover instead of the original mounted under intake. Will make it easier to check and clean. When I pulled original motor (bad rod knock) I pulled with rear manifold, bearing carrier brace and alternator still attached. There was room but getting axle bearing carrier brace away from carrier was a nightmare that I would not recommend as it involved pulling the right cv axle as well. Going back in I installed carrier brace in place and loosely attached exhaust manifold to exhaust pipe and laid alternator in place with wires attached. My motor mount was slightly different than yours, I ended up having to trim quite a bit more off of it than it appears you did. Once instaloed she started right up! Got the engine for $100 on CL. . Thanks again for the video and explanations!
I wished he lived in Alabama, I have a 2010 Ford Escape, I haven't had any problems that God, it has extremely low mileage, but goodness you would be a handy guy to have near me..It's always good to have a handy person that KNOWS Ford vehicles
That was outstanding. I have 2007 Escape, dead in my driveway that I need to decide what to do with. I am mechanically inclined but not nearly to the point you are. I read on an escape blog that someone put a 2008 2.0 focus engine in their Escape. Matched up pretty cleanly outside of a few items. Again, very well done!
getting ready to do this have hired 2 pple they've been scared so I guess if need be done do it yourself I was going to bottom drop it but I think after watching your videos I can get it out the top hopefully thanks for your time and sharing I've worked on vehicle's for years I just thought it would be easier with a lift. showed me diff. thanks again and I'll let you guys know how it turns out with some vid time.
Old video but you sir do rock! Throughly impressive solution and tweaks to overcome unique circumstances. Anyone know if there is a solution to add an automatic 6 speed transmission to my 2006 escape?
Great Video! I'm looking to replace the mounts on my 2004 Escape and your videos are a great help as I try to familiarizing myself more with the engine. There's very little available that has so much detail on the Duratec V6!
2 Tips: 1) Remove the hood. It only takes ten minutes and helps with access and lighting. 2) The radiator will come out without fan removal and replacement.
Interesting, now I'm thinking of a project using a SHO or SVO. It is so much easier to drop the subframe and lift the body. Adding another 2 car garage to the house so I could have a 2 post by far the best mod ever.
Great video(s). The only thing I would have done differently would be to do a dry start before starting. Dry start to me means, pulling fuel pump fuse, do 2-3 cranks of the starter of 10 seconds long to build oil pressure, then start the engine.
WOW ... It's quite obvious that those engineers at Ford didn't want anyone to replace a 2002-2007 Ford Escape engine. (No wonder you see so many modern vehicles in the bone yard that haven't even been wrecked) You sure showed them!
I'm still searching the internet for some definitive way of replacing the exhaust manifold against the firewall my daughter's has a cracked exhaust and I can't crawl around and figure out a way to get that damn thing out. I thought for sure watching you change the motor would show how the exhaust manifolds went on but you didn't put any exhaust manifolds on! I never thought of that.
hope you read this. going through same process but with an 05 engine. sweet trick for mount. i got the oil separator/ 05 got a plate there. oil separator nearly gave me heart attack. thing wouldn t fit in valley. gave it the boot and collapsed the baffle. was enough to slide under the valley. had to straighten out the baffle in place so it would fit in block. was only way with out pulling the head. the engine i pulled out had a knock sensor, in 04 tribute. it was swapped engine. now i can t find a plug for that thing. driving me crazy. is the a knock sensor on escape where s the connector i stretch the wire around and nothing around to connect it. i don t have the intake on yet.is it on there? i am starting to think it might but from previous donnor car and not required on tribute.
Ok pfun41, this is a total newbie question but from watching your video, it seems that you have extensive knowledge and technical skill. I am impressed . My question is: what training did you acquire to become as proficient as you are at what you do? How many years of experience do you have? Is this your trade or is this your hobby?
I bought a 1 ton engine crane to swap motors - do you think it will be strong enough to do the job? I see your crane is fully extended and probably a 2 ton. Thanks for the info. Best video online for this kind of engine swap.
Hi, I want ask you, I have a problem with my Fuse Inside Box . I have a Ford Escape XLS 2006 and I need to remove and change the Fuse Box , because the First Fuse/relay location is broken and I need use Trailer lamps. Can you help me??
hey quick question i have a 2002 ford escape xlt my engine in escape has water lines going in where the oil filter is at i got a engine that does have those water lines on it just oile filter screws to block place i bjought it from says it fits
Tony T If it will fit it's almost always easier to remove an engine from the top. If you try to remove it from the bottom you have to drop the entire subframe, suspension, engine, and transmission. Then unbolt the engine, and you would still need a lift to move it. Not to mention once reassembled it would need an alignment since the suspension was apart. There are less components to deal with If you remove it from the top.
I can't for the life of me get the motor and transfer to split. There is about half inch all the way around all dowels are clear but she won't let go!!!!? How did to get it to split?
U didnt show the rear exhaust and under car install. I got to do engine swap tomorrow but with ans escape engine im planning on coming out thru top as i have no lift. But just wondering hoe hard rear exhaust was.
I had tried to remove the engine with the exhaust manifolds still installed but they wouldn't fit. I ended up removing the rear exhaust manifold in the dark while the hoist was holding the engine separated from the trans. That's why there is no video of it. with the engine still bolted up If you remove the intake you can get to the rear manifold bolts from the top and it isn't too bad.
One my question I have the carrier bearing lose all the bellhousing bolts engine is lose but it won't come completely apart from the transmission the transmission lifts with the engine when I try to hoist it out. What am I missing?
I have a shop light on in this video (you can see the orange glow on the engine block) and there's plenty of ambient light. The problem is it's all backlight so my camera was adjusting the ISO to compensate and dimming the picture. I couldn't arrange it for better lighting due to a lack of space. I plan to avoid this problem in the future.
I love this video as I have a 2004 Ford Escape and my oil light is on the blinking. Oil is inj the vehicle and it ran hot and stop. Little power. Now I was told that My oil pump may have stop working. So with that say can you send me a list of the parts used, can you send to vanrolle@batelnet.bs. In the Bahamas.
Awesome and concise video on what's needed! I would like to put a 2005 Ford Escape long block in a 2002. Is that possible? I've heard you need to swap wiring harness, but not clear which one should be used (2002 i would guess). Any insist appreciated!
@@jgoeke1 Water pump outlet will be a different size. As long as its the same drive style and doesn't have VVT or anything like that it should swap right in.
Quick update: Using the 2005 motor in the 2002 is almost exactly like what you present using the Taurus motor. After doing all you mentioned you also you have to move the timing cover from the 02 onto the 05 motor. In addition to modifying the motor mount, you also have to shorten the PCV valve ventilator housing (the 05 does not have one) to get it into place due to the same head interference. I bent the tabs on the breather plate that sticks down in the block to make it a bit shorter. Other than that it looks to be a direct swap. Won't know for sure until i get it all back together and start it up.
I've got a 2003 Mazda6 needing new motor. Guy 20 miles away selling pulled 2005 Ford Five Hundred engine. Pics look like swap timing cover, oil pan, valve covers, camshafts, and move over the two OCVs from 6 to new block. Will this work? Anyone?
I have 2 escape v6 one an 04 the other an 05. the 05 is on the side yours is but the engine we are swapping for is on the other side. So the engine we are swapping for the sensor is in the 9oclock position should the keyway still be in the 9 position with the tooth gap also at the 9?
Only the block, water pump, and minor parts were used from the Taurus, and they're nearly identical to the Escape. All the sensors, wiring harness, and other electrical components were from the escape, which makes it a plug and play affair. The only thing that had to be changed was the indexing of the encoder wheel for the crank sensor. If you tried to use an engine from a different year range it's much more complicated. And it HAS to be a 3.0 Duratec, the 3.0 Vulcan was also found in Tauruses but is an entirely different engine.
+NeatAjro Illyrian Unless you have a lift or wanna get creative its gotta come out through the top. And I can't see it being easier from the bottom without a lift.

Ryan Burke you have to pry the engine horizonatally away from the Transmission before lifting it out. Also the torque converter needs to be unbolted.

Don't remember but it was done in 2 days.
the taurus moter mount comes off without removing the head?
The Taurus uses different mounts, the spot the escape mount bolts to is unused on the Taurus.
can a 2004 ford Escape engine go into a 2006 ford Escape
Check the water pump drive and for VVT. If the water pump drive is the same and the car doesn't have vvt it should work.

The encoder setup on the engine you're swapping in should the the same as the one that came out, change what you have to in order to make it the same.
