  • Tennis Lessons - How To Deal With slice shots in tennis.
    Tennis tactics and tennis strategy by Top Tennis Training's Simon and Alex. In this video we will teach you how to handle low balls in tennis and how to defeat players who use the slice a lot in matches.
    Low slice shots are some of the hardest types of balls to handle in tennis, however there are a few ways to overcome the low ball.
    1. Hit the low ball with heavy topspin and overcome the slice on the ball with your own topspin which will allow you to hit aggressive but maintain the consistency. If you simply tap the ball back, the slice on the incoming ball will make the ball move on your strings which will result in your shot being erratic and you losing control of the shot.
    But by brushing up the back of the ball aggressively, you will be able to overcome the slice with your own topspin.
    2. Slice the ball back. As the ball is low most of the time when you receive that slice shot, it makes sense to slice the ball back to keep yourself in the rally in a neutral position.
    After you hit that low ball, you will have a few options, depending on the position you hit that shot from you will have to decide whether you move in towards the net, typically you would do that if the ball is shorter, or if you will hit that ball and return to the baseline, normally on deeper slices.
    This is video 2 of 3 that will be released as part of our Tennis Tactics Blueprint course which will be released very soon.
    Inside the full course we will teach you how to win more tennis matches against any style of opponent you may play, in any condition you may face.
    After going through the full course you will win more tennis matches and will have the knowledge to defeat any style of player you may play in a tennis match or tennis tournament.

    Terrific video, guys! Love the fact that you are playing on grass court dressed in white, adds so much class to this very informative video. Great explanations all the way through. Plus I love the fact, that you play a lot of balls. Nothing is more dreadful than to watch 15 minutes of talking with no playing at all.

    😭 this is my biggest weakness. In my local league (open level) i can usually beat big hitters, servers, etc. My game rellies on power and consistency, and as long as i can come to the net on my terms i can do pretty great too. But handling low balls and being forced into the net (with short slices or drop shots)is an entirely different thing. There is this one dude in particular who beat me the last 4 times we played. He just keeps bringing me in with shots like this then passing me. He also pushes and cheats a lot. I think hes gotten in my head too. Next tourny he is for sure gonna be there. I'll work on this big time and see if i can turn things around next time i play him. Thanks guys.

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  6 лет назад +13

      It's good to have those sort of rivals, it motivates us and keeps us improving to beat them. Try to do the same to him. See how he likes it. If he cheats then get the tournament referee and if there isn't one call him out on his dodgy line calls and tell him that two can play that game.
      Let us know how it goes

    I know someone who is an expert at hitting a cross court angled slice from anywhere on the court that lands inside the service box. I think you guys call that a chip . He beats most supposedly 4.5 players with this shot because all they know how to do is hit fast topspin shots from the baseline. When he hits them this chip shot they frequently can't get to it and if they do they just pop it up. Then they get stuck at the net where they are lost. You guys should have a video on how to hit this chip shot and why it is so effective against a baseliner.

    How do you deal with forehand low ball? Recently, I met an opponent with a compact top spin forehand - which generates speed & pace (sudden acceleration upon touching ground). Other than using FH slice, how do you deal with those black magick forehand ?

    • @mjk506
      @mjk506 7 лет назад

      Sounds crazy but in that instance the approach would either be high loopy (or balls that kick up high) to try and prevent them from using the Topspin in the first place, or go after the backhand?

    Hey Simon, Shvain this side from India....there’s one thing I’d like to confirm on hitting the slice balls.
    What I feel is that hitting those balls right on the top before it drops is very important because at that time it has zero pace and you really need to generate your racquet head speed plus I also tried hitting at backhand disguise drop shots also helps just give a surprise element to the opponent.....I am actually 6.4 tall and hitting those dreadful backhand slice down the line was always a trouble for me I cannot maintain a strong court position if my opponent hitting slices down the line hope fully I can try this in practice.
    Regards

    Question: On YT-channel Tennis troll there is a player called MEP. As you can see - he usually hits with underspinn and/or sidespinn. And not a lot of pace... When Im facing those kind of shots it make me defensive because my returns to those tend to go too long. The reason to that is that most players I usually play hit with at least some topspinn... So - should my groundstroke swingpath be more vertical to those underspinn/sidespinn shots to create topspinn? And/or faster swing than normal? Sliceshots with more pace I use to handle better...😊

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  3 года назад +1

      MEP would struggle big time against a player who uses heavy topspin and pace, you can't dink the ball back in play against aggressive spinners, the ball shoots off the racket.

    • @gefhspiral
      @gefhspiral 6 лет назад

      At around 12:20 they talk about countering deep slices. I think the trick is to keep your legs low. If your opponent is coming to the net too much maybe you need to hit deeper so he wont be able to do that so easily. If he does better on one side maybe hit to the other more often and keep them moving side to side so they wont be able to come forward.

    Sound advice, but given the frequent references to 'the opponent', this is clearly intended as advice for singles play rather than doubles. Surely it's worth saying, then, that it's even tougher to go down the line (7.47) if you're using the required singles sticks? Wouldn't it be better accordingly to demonstrate that point by using sticks with that doubles net? Come on guys - it wouldn't take that much effort to have the net at the correct height for your singles instruction.
