Fun fact: Dwight Eisenhower once got into a fight with a tree on a golf course. On the 17th hole of the Augusta National Golf Club stood a loblolly pine which interfered with a number of golf games, including those of the avid golf player Eisenhower. He was so irritated by this tree that he petitioned for its removal. This was denied, and the tree stood until 2014 when an ice storm killed it and created a safety hazard for all around.

Re: The Calvin Coolidge story about the woman betting she could get three words from him. This was a joke in one of the Oz books. At some point in one of the later books, Dorothy is told that all animals in Oz can talk, even immigrants. She asks Toto if he can talk, and bets she can make him say three words. He says only 'You lose'. L Frank Baum died in 1920, so this joke predates the Coolidge joke by a few years. And I'm wondering if that's where it came from.

17:56 What Taft really wanted was to be Chief Justice. He only really became president because TR insisted so strongly he run. Also, Taft is the only president to serve in all three branches of government. 19:34 I also love the story of how he announced he wouldn’t run in 1928. He organized a press briefing. When he walked out to the briefing, he gave a note to a reporter in the front row and left. When the reporter read the note aloud, it said “I will not seek reelection in 1928.” 24:32 As a proud brony, this makes me REALLY happy. When he answered the trivia questions made sense. MLP:FiM began on October 10, 2010, and the brony fandom basically started in 2011. In 2012, the fandom got onto the news because so many people were amazed that a show aimed at 3 to 7-year-old girls gained the attention of full grown men. It was such a big deal that there’s even a documentary about the fandom.
Some interesting tidbits on Calvin Coolidge. For many years he was actively involved in Massachusetts politics starting as a city counselor in Northampton Ma and ending with his tenure as the Governor. Northampton is the home to his presidential library which is a couple of rooms on the 2nd floor of the Forbes Library. Very unassuming in comparison to the more resent libraries which is much like Coolidge himself. After Coolidge died, the state of Massachusetts decided to dedicate a bridge that spans the CT river between Northampton and Hadley in his memory. None of the Coolidge family felt that the dedication ceremony was worth their time to attend as they all had excuses for not showing up. While there are numerous buildings and public works named in his honor during his lifetime, the bridge has ended up being the only public memorial to him in existence.
I remember hearing an anecdote about JFK's speedreading--When asking staff to take a look at an something to read, he'd get impatient after a few moments and say, "I asked you to read it, not memorize it!"
One day I remember using the app Find A Grave cause I was bored and starting with my maternal great grandfather I was able to trace things back to James Garfield. Also learned I had an ancestor who died falling off a bridge with his horse in 1643 in Norway.
Should add that obviously I’m not related to Garfield in a straight line but I found some connection with a bunch of clicking on random names and siblings of direct ancestors as I went further back. Was super random when I stumbled across it but pretty cool lol thankfully it wasn’t a dick like Jackson or Andrew Johnson

I have two: Calvin Coolidge is a direct descendant of Edward Doty, one of the signatories of the Mayflower Compact, who happens to also be a direct ancestor of mine. Coolidge would be my 11th cousin 10 times removed (so basically not actually related). FDR was related to Alexander Hamilton through the Schuyler family. I'm very distantly related to the Schuyler family through the VanSchaick family.
I once helped clean and dust the Millard Fillmore house in my hometown of East Aurora. It's furnished with replicas. I had a blast cleaning the toys in his daughter's room, especially the doll sized china set on a child size table and cabinet!
My son wrote a report on Abraham Lincoln last year and included a few lines on his wrestling abilities. He also included the line, "Lincoln is said to have invented the choke-hold" as a "fun fact".
I know nothing of US presidents, at all(other than GW was the first) and when James Polk came up with the Oregon-game symbol, all I could think of is this comedic musical called "Trail to Oregon" inspired by that game, and specifically a line that the mother sings in it: "My first pioneer would be President Polk, I think he'd be a good leader of the wagon". So thank you for making that song stuck in my head again

The Democrats infiltrating the school system was the worst thing that could have happened to this country. They taught “Lost Cause” myth in the 60’s-90’s, and now they teach the “party switch” myth
@@billtalker3843 How are you suggesting the party switch is a myth? It happened around the time of FDR's election, Dixiecrats in the South switched to being Republicans. Progressive/Liberal Republicans who were pro-civil rights migrated to FDR's New Deal Democratic Party. There was clearly a switching of principles when it came to the respective party's ideas on race. Democrats used to be the KKK, pro-slavery southern vote who turned into the party of civil rights. Republicans USED to be the abolitionist, progressive party and turned into the Confederate apologist, anti-Civil Rights, conservative party it is today.
@@carsonkeller9944 See. You repeat nonsense vomited from your Democrat teachers. Stop believing the brainwashing. Look at reality and look at history. Democrats are still pro-segregstion and pro-racism. Democrats have always been the party of the immoral since the 1850’s. Go look at old voting maps and tell me the Dixiecrats joined the Republicans. You can’t. Would you switch parties today if your party made you mad? No. That doesn’t happen. What happens is, after integration of the South, and years of co-mingling of races, people started to see the purity of the Republican Party. Hearts were changed. It was the Democrats (and still to this day) that scare black folks into voting for them. “If you don’t vote for me, you ain’t black!” That is the underlying tone of most Democrat politics towards the black folks, just like in the early 1900’s when the Democrats were saying “vote our way or we’ll kill you.” Vote our way or you’re dead to us. Political agendas change over time, but one thing stays the same: the Democrats are the party of racism, segregation, and slavery. That will never change. Look at who is in office right now. A rich old white man who has ties to the KKK. You can’t make this stuff up. Similar to how evangelical Christian denominations have always leaned against slavery and segregation (to various degrees) while the high churches always leaned towards slavery and segregation (to various degrees). The high churches have always been on the immoral side of American history, and still are, as most support progressive debauchery today. There’s countless “common sense” examples. Open your blinds, look outside, and see the truth.
@@billtalker3843 How can the democrats be the party of racism when they were the one who elected a black president. I didn't see Trump doing anything during the BLM era last year apart from condemn the protests and support the police officers. Also, both of your quotes, are not accurate. If you're going to quote something, quote it right please or else the rest of your argument is void. And I'm not sure how you can criticise Biden for having ties to the KKK, when there is no proof, but in Trumps 4 year term, he never identified the KKK as a terrorist organisation, and there is evidence he is connected to both the KKK and the proud boys. The party switch has been proven to be true and for you to keep denting such facts is pathetic and stupid. Churches and religious charities are known to exclude racial minorities, why do you think they had to start their own churches? Also, if the democrats enforced slavery and Jim Crow, why was it also a democrat who liberated black people from Jim Crow? Your logic is laughable.

The first time was as a General Electric representative in the old GE plant in Downtown Fort Wayne and in the Fort Wayne Coliseum after the 1982 Flood.
If you ever heard of Eleanor Wood and her speed reading classes, JFK was familiar with it. He took the course and had several of his staff do the same.
Gerald Ford played college football but he was also offered a contract by both the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers but he turned it down if he would have accepted it he would have been the first president to be a former professional athlete
Imagine that conversation with Harry S. Truman. “So what’s your middle name?” “S” “Pardon?” “S” “Yes I know that, but what does the S stand for?” “It’s just S”

Love your channel, and the fact that you actually add things to every one of your reactions, it is not just you staring at a camera, but I learn a fair amount from your videos, and never actually listened to sabaton before I found your channel, and I am actually loving them now. Keep up the good work man, cant wait for more.
That's awesome. Glad to have you on board!
Imagine getting rko'd by Lincoln
I get the joke, but this was likely Greco-Roman wrestling, not WWE - so he'd headbutt you or choke you out, but not RKO - and yes, apparently headbutting was allowed, but tripping and "holds below the waist" were forbidden.
@Paul Thomas the south and the confederacy arent the same, just so one knows
He wouldn't stand a chance
@@George_Washington_1776 He was taller than you though
i heard he invented the chokeslam
Fun fact: Dwight Eisenhower once got into a fight with a tree on a golf course. On the 17th hole of the Augusta National Golf Club stood a loblolly pine which interfered with a number of golf games, including those of the avid golf player Eisenhower. He was so irritated by this tree that he petitioned for its removal. This was denied, and the tree stood until 2014 when an ice storm killed it and created a safety hazard for all around.

Just stopping by to say that I appreciate the commentary and added storytelling. I'm a history nut like many others so 9 in 10 times I have already watched the video you are reacting to. I'm here for your unique perspective on each video, not the Oooohs and Aaaaaahs that are the typical reaction video standard. Thank you for what you do. I will be tuning in to see what else you have to say going forward.
“ James Buchanan may have been gay “ also he’s the only president from Pennsylvania not me thinking he was relating the two 😂
those damn Pennsylvanians and their homosexual tendencies

Greetings from a fellow Ohioan. Found your videos regarding the Civil War (the war that initially got me interested in History) and having been binging all the others since then. The videos you do a reaction on are attention grabbing and very good at explaining the events and then your add ins are really just the icing on the cake. Keep up the good work. And because I feel it is obligatory for any Ohioan -- OH!
As a huge history buff living in central Virginia. Arguably the heart of civil and revolutionary wars, I love your content and your passion for history. It was my dream to attend UVA school of History however I was from a poor family and even though accepted could attend. Thanks for spreading the love.
Loved the Fredericksburg series btw!
Thank you Abdullah!
I'm very happy your channel is growing at a rapid pace
Abe Lincoln had two cats named tabby and dixie. He once exclaimed "Dixie is smarter than my whole cabinet...!" He was also known for taking in the occasional stray cat or two into the White House.
Being from Augusta, there is a great story about Eisenhower and the master's. There was a particular tree that always messed up his shot and he ordered the Augusta National to remove it.....they instead named it after him😊
16:35 Roosevelt was also the first president to fly on a plane (after leaving office)
Saw your reaction to the American Civil War Oversimplified videos a couple of days ago and after seeing many of your videos by this point, i’m really glad i found this great channel!
Greetings from Finland.
I would have really enjoyed having you as my history teacher, your insight is very fun to listen to
Re: The Calvin Coolidge story about the woman betting she could get three words from him.
Not only was Washington and Lincoln both in the Wrestling Hall of Fame, but William Taft and Theordore Roosevelt was too
one nice thing i noticed in this video is that you always seek for more information. when u reacted to the civil war oversimplified u didnt know that burnside was there and now you know more about it and all of those little details. its nice to see.
Just like everyone else here I am always eager to learn something I didn't know before
Fun fact: A nearly 60 year old Theodore Roosevelt asked the President at the time, and the US navy to fight in WW1
Woodrow Wilson was president at the time.

Did you guys know that Lincoln was a vampire slayer? He could chop down an entire tree with one cut, they even made a movie about it!
That Grover Cleveland fact was hardly “weird”. It’s practically the only thing he is remembered for.
This was a terrific video, man. Seriously, I could watch stuff like this for hours.
you're like the only reason I want to learn more about history.
When the reporter read the note aloud, it said “I will not seek reelection in 1928.”
24:32 As a proud brony, this makes me REALLY happy. When he answered the trivia questions made sense. MLP:FiM began on October 10, 2010, and the brony fandom basically started in 2011. In 2012, the fandom got onto the news because so many people were amazed that a show aimed at 3 to 7-year-old girls gained the attention of full grown men. It was such a big deal that there’s even a documentary about the fandom.
imagine ever unironically saying "As a proud brony,"
@@Colinop I don’t have to imagine it.
That was very fun! I love hearing weird history facts and you are incredibly fun and interesting to watch, keep em coming!
😂
As a Swede with a limited view of american history this was both entertaining and educating, keep it up!
2:50 the hbo show “Adam’s” has a fucking great episode around the massacre and the trial.
Yes, McCullough, the author of the original book, really gave a more balanced portrait of that event.
1:52 there are photographs of him but when he was old
I discovered ur channel a few weeks ago and I love it. You’re doing a great job!
Carter wasn't on a nuclear submarine. He was on a diesel-powered submarine, the SSK-1/Barracuda III. He was training to become an engineering officer on the USS Seawolf, one of the first nuclear subs, but resigned from the Navy when his father died.
Hearing about your family history across all of your videos is so interesting
LOVE the reaction videos man 👌🏻
I have two:
Calvin Coolidge is a direct descendant of Edward Doty, one of the signatories of the Mayflower Compact, who happens to also be a direct ancestor of mine. Coolidge would be my 11th cousin 10 times removed (so basically not actually related).
FDR was related to Alexander Hamilton through the Schuyler family. I'm very distantly related to the Schuyler family through the VanSchaick family.
Teddy Roosevelt after he was shoot supposedly started his speech with Ladies and Gentlemen I have just been shot
"But it takes more then that to kil a bull mouse"
This is exactly how reactions should be...adding something to a video to make it even better. Not just some stupid commentating everybody couldve done
DatHistory: "Wanna know an interesting fact about Quakers?"
"They exist."
"Yeah, that's all I got."
Great video, great insight, its always fascinating learning about American history. Its funny because here in Australia, American politics are covered almost as much as Australian. Curious how much do you know about Australian history?
Outside of how Australia was used as a penal colony, sadly I don't know that much.
I mean, it would be hilarious if he did a review of oversimplified’s video of the Emu War
I'm a docent at the James K. Polk Home in Columbia, TN. If you haven't been, I strongly encourage it! There is alot to learn about this President. He interestingly holds the record for least days taken off as President. We see have seen many Presidents over the years that go on vacation way too much, but Polk only took 27 days off in his 4 year term.

As someone whos been a new Salem interpreter, learning about Lincoln and the people he was good friends with is such an interesting thing, actually the Kelso family was a family Lincoln used to board with, and Mr. Kelso (I cant remember his first name) got him into poetry and they were good friends, and doctor Francis Regnier was in the Whig party that voted for vowed to vote for Lincoln

Let’s go 30k subscribers, keep killing it brother
