It is a miracle. He is a miracle. The impossible made reality. More than a genious. He is a musician. Thanks to God for this boy. Bravo Alexander. A great young pianist.
Pertenezco a Buenos Aires Capital Argentina estoy deslumbrada! This is the first Alexander Malofeev performance I heard, and at first I thought it was a novelty that a 14 y.o. could be taught to perform like an adult, complete with adult facial expressions. I thought, "he must have an incredibly talented teacher". By the time I got a couple of minutes through the piece, I realised something was up. Alexander isn't some careful production of a talented teacher (though his teacher is surely talented), he's the real deal. He actually really feels the music like that. By the time I got to the end of the performance I thought, "how is this possible". I don't think I've ever heard a 14 y.o. perform like that. I then spent hours listening to as many of his performances as I could stay awake for until 4 am! The next day, I listened to even more, and some of his performances truly moved me. This is not just some child prodigy. Alexander Malofeev is simply one of the greatest living pianists. His age is utterly irrelevant and shouldn't even be considered. He is without a doubt one of the most sophisticated and expressive classical pianists alive, who cares more about the music than anything else. Bravo Alexander for your dedication to the music and to the gift you have been given. This is not a piece I would normally listen to. But I want to hear it again and again after hearing you play it.
@goodwillhart I agree with you totally, and I also would normally not listen to this piece. You're right, there is "something about this kid" who is, as of this date (2021), a young adult...and even more amazing!
Just unbelievable to me that Alexander performed this gigantic piece when he was just 14-yo. What an amazing talent and how wonderful that he loves to share the music with the world. For that, young maestro, we are so very grateful..
What planet did he come from ??? Never seen anything like this,,such maturity at this young age completly blows my mind!! God bless him. I cannot even say he will be one of the top,,he already is....wowwwwwww
Alexander plays this with his very soul. HE LIVES THE MUSIC. Thank God he does, otherwise I would not have just listened to something so magnificent, something so remarkable, something so all consuming!. He is lost in his music, and he loses us with him.
After Rachmaninoff heard Gilels play, he sent him a bronze medallion with Anton Rubinstein's profile engraved on it, along with a diploma that he (Rachmaninoff) had received as being Rubinstein's successor.Rachmaninoff added Gilels name to the diploma before sending it to him. There is no doubt in my mind that if either Gilels or Rachmaninoff heard young Alexander they would want him to have both the medallion and the diploma.
'Emil Gilels Wikipedia', you can find this through google. It is also interesting that Gilels believed in reincarnation and said he would like to be a concert pianist again.I believe he has arrived!
The only other performance on You Tube of Rachmaninov’s Second Sonata which, in delicacy, comes anywhere near Malofeev here is that given by Marc-André Hamelin, Moscow, 2013, and, superb though it is, Hamelin has none of Malofeev’s extraordinary emotional intensity. Malofeev’s performance here is so powerful, so exquisite, only eyes of tears can express this listener’s gratitude. Thank you so much, Alexander.
Thank you so much Alexander, you are really really and truly gifted and a genius too. That was magnificent and incredibly beautiful. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
Incredible...I'm hearing it, I'm seeing it...but still hard to believe. Just amazing that someone so young can play piano like this. Very, VERY beautiful!
You have such a profound talent given to you by God. The passion and depth of feeling you play with far exceeds your years. I sense the joy you feel when playing. God hears you and smiles down upon you. I am grateful your talent has been nurtured and alliwed to bloom. Bravo young man!
Amazing to watch the boy. He speaks the music as well as performing it. He has slimmed down quite a bit since he was 12. Imagine what he will be like in 2 more years
Dear Alexander this was a stunning performance, and without doubt you were already at 14, one of the greatest Pianists in the world. I have been suggesting to Elisey, Ivan and the Jussen Brothers to always keep some hand sanitizer with them when they get back to public performances, playing pianos many others have used. Praying you will stay safe!

Listened again to the Rach 2 Sonata. The sensitivity which you show in this performance, Sasha, is quite wonderful. It brings the music to life so that it enters our hearts. Thank you.
Anyone that did not like this performance should be bared from listening to music. Sergi would be so proud. Mr. Malofeev lived every second of this performance.. There are not words to express how delightful a performance. The phrasing, the interpretation, Mr. Malofeev lived every note. So expressive in his performance. Bravo. Others to strive to reach your ability as a awesome pianist.
should be "bared"? from listening to music? There's a lot of people who detest Matusev and his egregious histrionics and sloppy playing and they are justified.....there's nothing wrong with disliking this presentation either. It's an admirable performance, but this does not make it "likable" to everyone.....therefore the dislikes do not deserve to be "barred" from listening to all music. Very flippant statement on your part.
Your performance of the second movement is heart-rending - almost too painful to listen to - but that is as it should be . . . You bring out the inner meaning of the piano repertoire as only otherwise Ivo Pogorelich does . . . Many many congratulations !

Here the keyboard is almost caressed, even when it is required to play "fortissimo", combining this with an aesthetic search for sound and exceptional phrasing: no material violence in the sound, on the instrument, on the keyboard. I noticed it because in the same Sonata, performed by another interpreter (name omitted for obvious reasons), many and many times there are real repeated hits on the keyboard, given unnecessarily with violence, almost breaking everything. The very economical use of the right pedal makes music sound great. Very well working fingers.
