  • 350 chey i put in my 1980 cj5. it has a 2.5 iron duke bellhouseing, t4 tranny, dana 300 transfer case, advance adapter federwell headers, rv cam, double roller timing chain, edelbrock 600 AFB, chevy 2 clutch and pressure plate, camero flywheel, homemade motor mounts. still needs power steering pump and bigger radiator. very easy conversion that is well worth every penny. i rebuilt everything my self except the heads. tonys machine in marysville kansas did those.

it bolts right up. both motors have the same bolt pattern. i used a camero small diameter flywheel and chevy 2 clutch kit that has the flat diaphram.

How’s the transmission holding up after the swap?

Well done, I'm getting my second Jeep started on a build next weekend and I just needed to see this for inspiration, I'd say a damn good job for a first-time Rebuilder. I think I'm going to probably buy a crate engine myself though

it has the same bolt pattern. bolts right up. you have to put a smaller pilot bushing in the crank.

+Techno Niko hey thanks for the reply also do you know if i could swap any better egine than the original L6 and be california legal?

casimirobuenabista I don't know much about California laws. What I have heard is that vehicles have to go for inspection, and they typically require two things. First is to be below a certain CO2 level in emissions (diesels emit roughly 20% more CO2 per gallon than gas). Second is they can be picky about modifications. Another problem is that counties have different regulations. BUT (here is the good part) if you live in a different county and have a vehicle from before 1975 you don't need to get it emission checked. I don't know this for sure so I recommend to double check.

Hey Cassidy, good work. What headers are those? I have an '86 with a 350 and need to swap the crappy body lift for a suspension lift and the current headers don't drop enough to allow it. thanks!

Have you driven it enough to get a good fuel mileage average yet? I have a couple cj5's that I wanna do swaps to them but don't want to have gas hogs. Was thinking of a 5.3 LS swap but I know nothing about the electronics hookup. I like the clean and simplicity of your carburetored swap.

How did you bolt the 350 to the iron duke 4 cyl bell housing?

That is a very clean setup. I am in the process of doing this to a 1995 Jeep Wrangler. Any advice on how you did your motor mounts? I purchased an adapter kit through Ebay, however, I am unclear if I have to cut old mounts out and then re-weld the new ones, or will it be a "bolt together" project? Thank you in advance.
