It was used as a stunt vehicle in the film "Go Trabi Go" and was seen in many scenes, such as the excavator scene, on two wheels and many more. The background why a Trabant 1.1 was taken for it was simply that the 601 would not have managed to drive on two wheels, for example. A frame was specially made for this scene so that the main actor, Wolfgang Stumph, alias Udo Struutz, can perform the stunt himself. So there were all sorts of interesting stories about this Trabant alone. Stev's father, Hans Jürgen Kuhn, acted in the film himself, but was mainly busy accompanying the film team and converting a total of 13 Trabants to adapt them to the needs of the film. He proceeded with a great deal of creativity and manual skill. Even the construction that a Trabant with a "roof tent" can be lifted by an excavator is impressive. Over the years, a real friendship developed between Kuhn and Stumph, which is how the Go Trabi Go Forever came about, in which this Trabant also took part again.
More than 30 years have already passed since the first appearance on the screen, the film showed at the time, perhaps in a humorous way, a little exaggerated, how beautifully the turning point moved people in East and West. A lot was new, different and almost everything was exciting. The Trabant was a stable size, which made it a popular figure even then.
In this video, Stev tells us a lot about the peculiarities of this film car, such as special brackets, the conversions and the qualities that a Trabant brings with it then and now. For example, some scenes could be shot several times (down the stairs) where, based on experience at the time, it would have taken several cars to do it. Also very interesting how the tank problem was solved, because the Trabant 1.1 no longer has the tank under the bonnet, but of course you weren't allowed to see that in the film, so Hans Jürgen simply created a small cover that then came on the nozzle. But connoisseurs could still see when this model was used, because you could still see the tank under the car :)
