I have been looking for this game for a long time spent many years researching video games about world war two. All I had to go on from my farther was that it came out around the 2000's and a vague memory of the first German mission. I'm happy to have finally found the game from my childhood. I can't wait to show this game to my father and play it with him like we used to. Thank you.
Stumbled across this video. Spent many happy hours of my teenage years playing this. For me, Blitzkrieg Anthology was the only true tactical game were the AI is actually strong and thinks for itself. Going to purchase this tomorrow since I've got that buzz again :). Good hunting strategists!

Good game. You can even attribute it to the classics of the gaming industry. It is a pity that it remained in the shadow of more popular game series, while being one of the best RTS about the Second World War. True, it also has disadvantages. that sniper sure is handy in taking out gun crews and basically any infantry in game.. I also use it as a spotter for my artillery when I use the "shoot and scoot" tactics.. love this game, thank you!!!
Best game I ever played on PC.. The first original Sudden Strike games with the best, played with the add-on it was excellent they was Sudden Strike 2 came out, both were great..
Wakacje 2004 wróciły. Grałem w tę grę 18 lat temu. Aż 18 lat temu. Tylko 18 lat temu. Silnie zapadła mi w pamięć. Nadal bardzo dokładnie pamiętam misje, sprzęt, mechanikę tej gry, piksele, głosy dowódców czołgów, dział etc. Wracałem potem i chętnie wróciłbym jeszcze raz, by ją znów przejść calutką.

I bought this Blitzkrieg when it first came out on disc, i have Blitzkrieg, attack is the only defence and burning horizon, i still play them to this day. great game.
Problem is that they have an annoying tendency to over-engineer and over-build stuff, which proves detrimental to the war effort via massively increased manufacturing costs and maintenance efforts. Just look at the unnecessary overlapping of the tank wheels in their panzers and you can get a glimpse of their problem.

My tactics were always the same ; 1) Short move forward with mix infantry tanks 2) digging infantry and tanks 3) Sniper recon area 4) My artillery always opens up after enemy artillery reveal it self 5) when enemy art is destroyed my artillery opens up with sniper recon as support 6) Infantry and tanks used only as defence measure and always digging Thats why my battles were very long
@Orn Gorn they are trying to maintain historical accuracy.in the first battles the germans used the panzer 2 and the panzer 3 as their main tanks until they produced more panzer 4s,which is why you get stronger tanks(panzer 4,panther,tiger,ect) in the other battles so they had to make up for their weaker tanks(especially in france when they faced the somua and some british tanks with massive artillery and air attacks
People still make incredible mods for the first Blitzkrieg game, it surpasses the quality of both successors which had less success than the first one. Quite sad that it hasn't the same popularity as Company of Heroes or Men of War for that matter.

I play on hard only pause to set up at the beginning, remember the Historical with the Russian rail gun being difficult until you kill their LR arty, also the one where you have to defend the north side river from oncoming Russian forces. Final mission is ok if you have your infantry near the Maus split up and lying down to take the constant bombers.
I played a lot of Blitzkrieg 2 as a kid on the family computer (still have the physical copy), but I think I played this a bit also. I remember that intro very vividly, and also that loading screen. Maybe I didn't get into this one as much since I can't find the copy or remember the campaign screen looking like that. edit: I do have this "Mission Kursk - The Unofficial Blitzkrieg Addon" that never worked
I wish this game had unique units for the minor factions For instance, the Poles of 1939 campagin should have 75 mm armata wz.1897 (its actually the French Canon de 75 modèle 1897) as the main artillery, the heavy machine guns should be Ckm wz. 30 (locally produced copies of the American M1917 cambered in 7.92×57mm Mauser)
7:36:38 i noticed you dont like to use your own arty.... why is that?? . back when i played..... id wait till the enemy arty started shooting..... and counter fire them to death then, id do a 5 min barrage into any area i wanted to advance into . i get they can counter-counter fire..... but just spread them out....and keep other units away you can usually kill them before they kill your guns . like, you got TWO! 5 barrel nebelwaffers...... i would be using thows things quite a bit!!

That last mission was hilarious lol love watching your 4 core units just owning everything. I almost feel sorry for the allied tanks lol they really stand no match for the tiger and panzer tanks. But oh lord German aviation is so bad in this game. I mean, it’s just terrible when your fighters get owned by the secondary attack of the bombers lol and those allies ground attack planes probably posed more threat than the entire allied tank force in the mission
How do you play the steam version of Blitzkrieg Anthology (steam)? The game seems to start but then The screen says "invalid format". Please help me. It has nothing to do with the compatibility mode. At least I already tried it with WinXP SP3 and starting as administrator.
minusem gierki było sporo misji w ktorych moglem stosowac amerykansko-rosyjska taktyke, czyli masowe bombardowanie az powierzchnia zmieniala kolor z zielonego na czarny, oraz masowe i chaotyczne posyłanie samych zolnierzy naprzod bez oficerow na mieso armatnie, po czym ladowalem ponownie oddzialy i takw kolko... jednak byly misje typowo obronne gdzie nie trzeba bylo bardziej kombinowac i wtedy byla zabawa:)
@@GamePlayShare i baypass "achtung" on "hard" deficult, but i dont instaling "better inteligency" mod, and normally i can shotting throw walls and buildings, when i see enemy ... but in more missions im first build defence line taken emeny canons and lay mines field, and then i doing task, because i knowing that my units is to weak to counter attack.... in normally blitzkrieg on hard dificult sherman can destroy tiger :D
i thing that much harder than achtung panzer is "motherland calls" - Gordon change totally rules - range cannons, flak, and infantry cannot destroy armor units droping granates, and cannot shoting with pistol/rifle any truck
Hey! I have a question about core units upgrade. In random missions you can "unlock" some units and then upgrade your old ones. Lets say i upgrade StuG III Ausf. D into StuG III Ausf. F and click accept. Then if i change my Ausf. F for something else, i have no longer Ausf. F on the list, it's gone and i can no longer change to it why?
A little late but when you upgrade à tank or piece of artillery (let's say à Tiger 1 into à King tiger 2 you don't have the tiger 1 in the list of upgrade then you lose it . Hope it helped you understand if you read this
Terrain and units (except infantry) are 3D. Trees and houses are 2D. If i am not mistaken there is invisible 3D block behind building sprites to simulate 3D structure when units move around or to register hits.
AI has no victory conditions. AI can beat you and its easy to lose in the game. You don't see me losing because i have edited loadings to be invisible in the video
I recently installed this game on windows 7 32 bit but I have a problem that the game speed isn't constant the game sudennly moves very fast what to do ?
@@GamePlayShare How to do that ? the game suddenly becomes fast for 5 or 6 seconds and then becomes normal why does that happens ? note (sometimes it takes more or less than 5 or 6 seconds to become normal )
Sniping flak and pak crews if possible, then infantry behind tanks attacking trenches and then infantry going inside city cowered by tanks from behind.
@@GamePlayShare I have played the German campaign multiple times, and you are knocking out enemy tanks WAY to easy. For example at 2:26:19 you knocked out that counter attack without loosing a single tank head on... there is no way this is on normal difficulty. You have good tactics tho and I enjoyed the video.

It's so strange to me that enemy's aviation is much less aggressive in mission Kharkov 1943 than Kharkov 1942.

I prefer to capture them if possible. It helps lot. Also I feel annoyed to use arty for a long time.

who designed scouts srsly. all you have to do is sneak with them and shoot at artilery without any resistance

It was always possible to do surgical strikes to defeat enemy artilery and then use combination of infantry and tanks for attack.

A little late but when you upgrade à tank or piece of artillery (let's say à Tiger 1 into à King tiger 2 you don't have the tiger 1 in the list of upgrade then you lose it . Hope it helped you understand if you read this

How does he get Tiger tanks for Kharkov '43 campaign? I don't remember getting them until the end of the game.

Is someone know how this kind of graphics are made ? 2D iso + 3D units ?
Terrain and units (except infantry) are 3D. Trees and houses are 2D. If i am not mistaken there is invisible 3D block behind building sprites to simulate 3D structure when units move around or to register hits.
Can you actually lose missions in this game ? can the AI beat you ? does the AI have its own victory conditions that you have to prevent ?
AI has no victory conditions. AI can beat you and its easy to lose in the game. You don't see me losing because i have edited loadings to be invisible in the video

I recently installed this game on windows 7 32 bit but I have a problem that the game speed isn't constant the game sudennly moves very fast what to do ?
I have no troubles with wind7 64bit. Try to set affinity to one core.

@@GamePlayShare I have played the German campaign multiple times, and you are knocking out enemy tanks WAY to easy. For example at 2:26:19 you knocked out that counter attack without loosing a single tank head on... there is no way this is on normal difficulty. You have good tactics tho and I enjoyed the video.
