    I have two PSR 3000s, both recently acquired second hand, one for home and one for taking to my gigs. Thank you so much for this most detailed repair advice in case I ever have the same problem. I have already repaired both of my own myself, but for entirely different reasons. A sticking pitch bend control and a broken USB to device socket. Please keep up the good work. Much respect,.

    Nick! MUCH appreciated! I have had many Yamaha keyboards over the years - including some newer ones like the PSR-S910 and the PSR-770 - but you know, in my church 'gig', I actually prefer the PSR-3000 to some of the later ones (consequently, I USE the PSR-3000 every week at the church!) - so, anyway, I was having some stuck 'velocity' issues in the mid-range so, I've ordered a new set of rubber contacts from my local Yamaha dealer. Of coarse, its NEVER that easy. Last week, whilst contemplating ordering the contact strips - my 'G' above middle C - key actually BROKE!...I have an earlier PSR-2000 that I kept for parts and lo and behold, my Yamaha service person said that the plastic keys from the PSR-2000 actually FIT the PSR-3000! Since the PSR-2000 never got as much use (still a great keyboard, though)...I'm going to swap out the worn-out PSR-3000 keys for the keys from the donor PSR-2000. I will definitely watch your video several more times, since it seems that your advice about 'what to remove and reinstall and in what order' will be very valuable! I've got keys Yamaha back to my original 1970's red and black Yamaha COMBO organ (purchased NEW!!) That tells you how OLD I am!... Cheers, and THANK YOU , again...James in Toronto

    By the way, I love your little electric screwdriver...I must get one. My full-size electric drill is WAY to big to deal with the little 'Phillips' screws on the keyboard!! I wish they'd used 'Robertson' (square head) screws like they do here (fat chance!)...but, on the other hand - I was told that the reason 'Americans' (and Yamaha Japan) uses so many 'cross-head' (Phillips) screws is that the bits are somewhat 'self-centering' when using automated assembly tools...Probably the reason that Henry Ford on his very early automated assembly lines, used Phillips screws on just about every part of the Model T Ford. I generally 'magnetize' all my screwdrivers before a job like this, by rubbing on a strong magnet - just a hint, to avoid losing those tiny Phillips screws into the abyss!

    Any idea how to fix those?

      I don't own a PSR 550, but some things might be the same. You could check a service manual. If you don't have it, i found one for the 550 here :

    High end keyboard keys are individually made, China made keyboard are made in group of keys. So you got to replace the whole octave. And can easily be broken.

      You can buy that on line, but try to clean it up first. For temporary fixing, you can swap the whole rubber contact to the First or last octave, Which is not often use.

    Hello, i have a question. In all the PSRs i have had to disassemble the key contacts look like the same. However today i got a PSR-1700 which instead of a PCB under the keys has a flex stripe with contacts and i fear it may be broken as many of the keys don't work at all. Do you know an easy way to repair this or if somehow is possible to swap it for a traditional yamaha PCB under the keys? Thank you.

    • @NickTunderVideos
      @NickTunderVideos  5 лет назад

      You could try to fix it with a small wire but it will be very hard. As far as i know there are no longer spareparts being made by Yamaha for this model so you have to be lucky.
      You could try to send a mail to Becketsmusic (where i got my spareparts from) and ask if they have either a solution or maybe even a spare strip. I mailed them back then for info and got answered within a week. Also, they are an Official Yamaha store and service center so they might be able to point you in the right direction.
      Good luck with fixing!

    • @kuyajosephtutorials9709
      @kuyajosephtutorials9709 4 года назад

      No, it can't be. Today's keyboard key contact are made of acetate like plastic contact. Made in China. Every model has different design, so will not probably fit with other model. Even connectors and pinning.

    • @NickTunderVideos
      @NickTunderVideos  5 лет назад

      Hi, You should be able to lift them and pull them out. But only if you do it in the correct order, since they kinda overlap a little. So either start with the black ones and start with the most right keys, or start with the white keys but then you start with the leftmost ones. If you dont take them out in the correct order, they wont come out or even break.
      Keep in mind that the first group of keys is the hardest, but once you get them out, the rest comes out much easier. Goodluck!

    i have the same keyboard , problem with couple of keys , need to hit hard inorder to hear the sound , is it something wrong with contact strip?

    • @NickTunderVideos
      @NickTunderVideos  6 лет назад +2

      It's most likely that you need to replace the rubber contacts. Each key has 2 of them. One is to play the actual note and the second is for the touch sensitivity. Sometimes it helps if you just take out the rubber strip and clean it with some air and use a very soft pencil (6B-8B) on the small contacts (graphite). If that isnt working you can replace the rubber strip, which isn't as hard as replacing a key :-)
      The rubber contacts aren't expensive.

      Try to clean it up with alcohol and cloth. Don't rub it too much, you might damage the pcb.

    • @NickTunderVideos
      @NickTunderVideos  4 года назад +1

      Hi, Do you mean no ne of the keys are working, or some of the keys not working? If some of the keys are not working it is often because the rubber strips didn't stay in the right position when reassembling the keyboard (if they move just a bit then you wont have good contact on some keys). If none of the keys work then it might be that the connectors/cables to the circuitboard aren't all in place or just dont have full contact. Specially the flatcables which can be seen at 14:15 can be a bit harder to get back in place. (Actually this part took me 3 tries before i got all keys working again ;) )

  • @kuyajosephtutorials9709
    @kuyajosephtutorials9709 4 года назад +1

    You can just simply swap that whole octave of key to the last octave.

    • @NickTunderVideos
      @NickTunderVideos  5 лет назад

      Hello, this can have many causes, but often it is caused by either a broken powersupply or the powercord that goes to the keyboard. If you have a multimeter (and for this you really need one) you can check the connector and see if there's 16 V coming out. If there's no 16 Volt on the connector then you need to replace the poweradapter wirth another one (16 Volt 2.4 Amp). If there's 16 Volt then you need to open the keyboard and start checking the powerboard for defective parts. The powerboard is easy to reach once the bottom of the keyboard is removed (it's the board i disconnect at 3:17). Often one of the capacitors (and there might even be a fuse but im not 100% sure) are faulty,. Then you can either replace the faulty part or replace the powerboard (which is expensive)
      i hope this helps you in fixing your psr 3000.

      Update: I have a PSR-1000 and on this keyboard I had to remove the key contact PCBs from the underside. After this the keys come off with ease.

      Hello,
      If the video has weird patterns both in the LCD and TV it's probably not the video jack that is causing the problem but possibly a faulty RAM. You can try the selftest and see if anything comes out. Selftest for PSR 3000 (might work for other models) :
      2 How to enter the Test Program
      While pressing the [C2#], [F2] and [G2#] keys, turn the [STANDBY/ON] switch on.
      3 Proceeding through the Test Program
      1) When the test program is activated, the sign "TEST" is indicated on the LCD display.
      The test program automatically performs RAM BACKUP check when entering test mode.
      2) Select the test program item to be executed by pressing the [TEMPO-] or [TEMPO+] button, or using the [DATA ENTRY] dial.
      3) Press the [START/STOP] button to execute testing.
      When the test result is OK, press the [START/STOP] button to return to the test item selection screen.
      Proceed to the next test by pressing the [TEMPO-] or [TEMPO+] button, or using the [DATA ENTRY] dial.
      When the test results is OK, an asterisk (*) is added in front of its item name on display.
      When the test result is NG, press the [DEMO] button or the lowest (leftmost) white key on the keyboard to return to the test item
      selection screen and then turn off the [STANDBY/ON] switch to end the test program.
      I hope this info is usefull

      If your cld contact is like rubber terminal, you could try to clean it both surface, or maybe its mis align. Sometimes the screw is so tight.
