I believe I have read everything available on Eva Peron and sadly my opinion has not changed about her. She was extremely ambitious and unethical. While she may have deplored the circumstances of the poor she used them to promote herself in her agenda. The government of Juan Peron was incredibly corrupt and self rewarding rather that actually serving the people. Truly sad.
You weren't kidding about a contradicting life. I went back and forth from thinking “well that's so progressive and ahead of it’s time” to “that’s terrible.” lol 😆 really. Also I always wondered why there are so many Nazis in Argentina still to this day. Now I know. Excellent video.

This was most excellent. Years ago I went to Wikipedia just to get a quick overview of Evita. Recently, I got more interested in her life and wanted more so I came here. It's an exercise in appreciating how different sources can be way different. This video was, of course, more detailed, but it also conflicted with what I remember from Wikipedia. For historical characters from a musical show, how about the Von Trapps from the Sound of Music? They didn't have much (if any) historical influence but many people know the show and movie.
You should read the book that Maria Von Trapp wrote about their journey. The movie and show are very different. It’s an excellent book that I highly recommend.
As far as I know, yes you can. My account lapsed before without my knowing and I was deciding on what to watch as if my account was still active. It wasn't until I went to play something that I realized my account was lapsed. It's at least worth trying the free trial, but 2.99 a month is totally worth the price of admission in my opinion. I've been a subscriber since I first started seeing the commercials on TV.
Hmm, let's see...you've done Elisabeth (Sisi), Evita, and Marie Antoinette...I think the only ones missing are Friedrich II of Prussia (aka Friedrich der Große), King Tutankhamun...and Mozart? (I could swear you had done Mozart but RUclips isn't delivering me any results when I search for it).
A thoroughly great video, Simon, and thanks for taking the trouble to do it! For a fascinating, you-couldn't-make-it-up story, I am amazed that documentary makers of late on the lame stream media could do such a rubbish job (particularly the BBC last year. It was about the 40th Anniversary of the musical Evita but in 2019, it was Eva Peron's Centenary of her birth). I recall something I read a good few years ago that Evita cancelled her visit to England through a misunderstanding of protocol (which was a huge shame). As hers was a goodwill tour and not an official state visit, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth agreed to meet her … not at Buckingham Palace but Windsor Castle! Evita took this as a snub and cancelled her visit. Of course, there are many different myths and rumours about her life (sometimes she would spin her early life) and lashings of propaganda by regimes and juntas to totally destroy the Perons after she died and after Juan Peron was overthrown.
You miss the near civil war between the branches of Peronism shortly before Perón’s return up to the coup against isabelita and during the dictatorship that follow untill raughly 1978
The musical "Ragtime" incorporates several historical figures, such as J.P. Morgan, George Washington Carver, Emma Goldman, and Evelyn Nesbit. The Unsinkable Molly Brown, and Annie Oakley (Annie Get your Gun) would also make for good cases to highlight some impressive female historical figures. PT Barnum (The Greatest Showman and another "Barnum") has become so talked about he almost seems more a tall tale or folk hero, so setting the record straight on him would be good. From "Newsies", you could examine the life of Joseph Pulitzer. Frank Abegnale (Catch Me if you Can), was covered in a movie that got converted to a musical, but did they omit or take creative license with his story? And I could only imagine the Biographics version of correcting/ explaining "Hamilton".
The military dudes who throw peron out of power DID IN FACT dance tango with evita corpose and i tell you more: they raped her, burn her with cigarretes, peed on her and even one of them broke her nose. nice dudes, uh?

If she had been born in our day and age she would have had such a longer life 😢 so crazy to think about. Hpv, cervical displasia, and cervical cancer are screened for and treated so early now it’s not nearly as deadly.
How about doing a program on Molly Brown? They called her "Unsinkable" because of her unique life; she also survived the Titanic. I would love to see a true telling of her story.
Hmm... shouldn't then british composers Gilbert and Sullivan be first? Quite a lively career too IIRC... ;-) And they made it into an episode of the West Wing, what higher praise can one think of? :-p

Can you do a biographics video on George Melies: Magician, Illusionist and Filmmaker
Really interesting thanks
Fascinating history
Argentina doesn't do boring government
Thank you once again for your excellence in perfection!
I would like to hear a bio about Gypsy Rose Lee. I was introduced to the musical several years ago and found her real life story fascinating.
Excellent video, Simon! Thank you.
Imagine being forced by your husband to not only live with his widow’s corpse in the house, but to also have to brush their hair!

"Honey... would it be okay if we kept my ex-wife's embalmed corpse in our living room for a a few weeks? It's just until she can find a place to stay. And could you brush her hair for me? Thanks, babe. You're a real doll."
Is it an option to browse CuriosityStream's catalog without registering? I'm just really curious what documentaries they do have
As far as I know, yes you can.
I don't know how I just discovered your channels, but I think you might be my new favorite person!
Awesome video!! Thanks for doing such a great job!! 😍😍😍
That video you put in, of Castro laughing at Che hahaha. Your brilliant with your videos.
Poor Che' had to settle for a motorcycle👌
Can you do one on alfredo stroessner?
Thank you so much! Great job!
Great video and an interesting story. Thanks Simon.
You got me at the hair brushing
I appreciate the longer length. Good job.
Don't we all ;-)
The musical "Ragtime" incorporates several historical figures, such as J.P.
TANGO MUSIC INTENSIFIES
The military dudes who throw peron out of power DID IN FACT dance tango with evita corpose and i tell you more: they raped her, burn her with cigarretes, peed on her and even one of them broke her nose. nice dudes, uh?
Please do the biographies of Joan Sutherland, La Stupenda; Marylin Horne; Natalie Dessay; Renee Fleming; Yma Sumac
They are some of my heroines of Music!!
They are some of the movers and shakers of the opera world!!
I had the chance to know and interview personally Father Madurini, the priest who took care of Evita body while in Italy and returned it to Peron along with Coronel Cabanilles of SIDE in 1971.
How about videos on some famous musical theatre composers? Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Sondheim, Rodgers & Hammerstein, etc.? Jonathan Larson (composer of the musical "Rent") would be a good one too. And I'm sure a lot of people would love one on Lin-Manuel Miranda.
If she had been born in our day and age she would have had such a longer life 😢 so crazy to think about. Hpv, cervical displasia, and cervical cancer are screened for and treated so early now it’s not nearly as deadly.
Boy, Juan Peron went pretty “Norman Bates” there. Damn...
Pretty much. 😂
Your videos are really good and well done. I enjoy them very much.
Such a fascinating story, well covered here. I for one, never knew Juan re-married after Eva’s death 🇦🇷
How about doing a program on Molly Brown? They called her "Unsinkable" because of her unique life; she also survived the Titanic. I would love to see a true telling of her story.
Don't Cry for me Argentina! Bio on the pair Rodgers and Hammerstein? (Broadway duo, similar to Rice and Webber) Love it Biographics!
Hmm... shouldn't then british composers Gilbert and Sullivan be first? Quite a lively career too IIRC... ;-) And they made it into an episode of the West Wing, what higher praise can one think of? :-p
The new wife combing her dead predecessors hair 🪮🤢
people from musicals? How about Maria von Trapp, Anna Leonowens (or her titular King)... gosh I'm sure I could think of more, but I'm struggling at the moment.
Thank you!! I've been waiting for this video!!!
Loved the humor injected into the piece.
“It seems crazy, but you must believe there’s nothing calculated, nothing planned. Please forgive me if I see naive, I would’ve never want to force your hand, but please understand...”
Can you do a biography on Dietrich Bonhoeffer
I would like to see a biography on Deretrich bonhoffo
You know what I mean
Best video in quite a while. Go Arnaldo! *I'M YOUR BIGGEST FAN*
StaticImage Wait, I thought I was yours ... ?!? 🤓 How are things Static?
@@arnaldoteodorani277 I'm doing quite well, actually. Thank you for asking. I am just trying to keep myself busy. Trying being the operative word here. And how are you?
And if I have a fan, then I am the happiest person on earth.
StaticImage Keeping busy, too. We just had one out you may find to your liking, Father Gabriele Amorth, a real life exorcist. Still have to check Dr Living Dead, What’s a food place to start from?
Peron and evite was the start of end in Argentina.
lol wut?
This is the most interesting part of history of Argentina. They may not be right most the time but they fought hard for Argentina and did what they could.
the last time i was this early madonna was playing evita
I've never been able to to sit through that movie...
Ugh it was so awful
General Disarray:- That's not what your wife said. She said last night you only lasted 45seconds in the bedroom department...
@@overwhelmingapathy721 In your opinion and not as a matter of fact!
@@barbarachase5824 ya...i wasnt typing for whole world.
Eva also closed any charity that wasn't hers - she wanted to be seen as the sole benefactor of Argentina.
Could you please do a bio on Ip Man? Thank you :)
That was extremely interesting, thank you.
Can you please do about Getúlio vargas president of brasil in the 30 and 40's he was part president and part dictator so i think it would be pretty interesting.
Peron: ok but what if I just don’t tell my wife she’s gonna die? Like what a bummer, why tell her?
A little off topic, but I would totally watch an entry on the life of one Simon Whistler
The founder of the Foursquare Church, Aimee Semple McPherson. The movie Elmer Gantry had a character that was supposed to be her. Kathie Lee Gifford, I believe, wrote a short-lived musical about her.
