"Bad movie" comedy should definitely be a genre of its own
But it's only truly funny if it's *unintentionally* bad
Samurai Cop is my new guilty pleasure. "It's so bad it's good" is a beautiful way of describing this hot mess. The dialogue, the delivery, the cinematography all borders on parody, which to me is the perfect recipe for an unironic comedy masterpiece. The most polished piece of this turd is the soundtrack, which is better than it has any right to be. Samurai Cop is way funnier than most comedies these days, and it's all accidental. I'm so glad the YT algorithm brought me here. Seriously, sit down with a pizza and laugh your ass off from start to finish.

I tried getting this point across to a friend of mine, but no matter how I articulate it, he doesn't believe in ''it's so bad it's good''.
For him it's just bad and that's the end of it.
I'm sad I can't share the joy that is watching this kind of golden schlock with him.

There is one thing this film does well - it has that early 90s dream like haze and summery brightness, it's exactly the same haze and lighting scheme from my childhood

So for the main character, he actually cut his hair prematurely, thinking he was done filming. However, he was notified that there was more filming that still needed to be done, so he's wearing a wig in some of the scenes LMAO.
In the fight scene at 47:41 the wig fully falls off!! 🤣

Saw this in 1991 after release, renting it from Dollar Video in DeKalb Illinois which carried all kinds of, ahem, "quality" films. Also saw this about 15 years ago during a movie fest with friends. And now today. Most entertaining, and is a worthy contender for best awful film. Laughably bad dialogue.
