One question is: how many Supercharger "stalls" will $500M get you? Let's say one Supercharger stall (hardware and installation) costs $50,000. That means $500M would get you about 10,000 stalls. Given a minimum of 8 Supercharger stalls per Supercharger Station, that is about 1,250 stations worldwide.
From a report on Statista's website, it can be shown that $500M is about the average expenditure Tesla has made for the past 3 years in Supercharger deployments and it is on the order of 1000+ Supercharger Stations. So, business as usual.
The 500 people on the charging team that got fired are not the people making the chargers at the manufacturing facility. And those 500 are not the guys installing them at the charging sites. The apparatus to make the chargers and install them is still intact. The apparatus to do the R&D to make new generations of chargers was disbanded. Everything could roll along as is, just fine, for 2 or 3 years
More brilliant predictions from the Viking.
Tell us that one again about how they absolutely wouldnt fire thousands of staff
Hey Sam, awesome vids as always.
In Perth we have a whole 12 supercharders(6 open 24hrs n 6 open 4am to 11pm). Outside the city i think there is only 20 in 5 locations, pretty useless for a state this size!
Having our first experience with charging in Victoria, I can say Tesla Superchargers are brilliant. Nowhere near enough yet. We have had good and bad experiences with other chargers. Not too serious, but annoying. Charging at home. No worries. Yes you should plan carefully if going long distances, but after a couple of weeks it is OK. Early days and getting there Australia. 🇦🇺
A much smaller state than Queensland yet you have more than three times as many superchargers. We are so far behind up here. The uptake of evs would be a lot greater but people north of Gympie don’t have access to super chargers. It’ll be interesting to see if there is any progress in the next 12 months.
If you look at Tesla's annual expenditures on the Supercharger Network, $500M is about average, maybe slightly less. Just a data point.
500 people doing nothing? Musk thinks you're stupid.
Cheers mate
I cannot quite get from Minnesota to Anchorage thru Canada yet on Tesla Superchargers alone - North of Prince George I need to charge in various small towns at slower chargers or get a moose to tow me along. But I'm sure that will change in the near future.
I think Tesla functions similar to an army. If one unit is eliminated, then other workers fill in and take up the slack. It may take some time to recover all functions, but they will get there and likely continue to advance.
Nope. Tesla used to be all engineers and little management. In the last few years, management layers got bigger. Now musk lays off tons of engineers.
Tesla used to never care about stock price and that was their advantage. As soon as musk needs shareholders to revote on his massive 55 billion dollars in free stock, he starts laying of engineers? This is the same strategy used by facebook, microsoft, amazon, boeing, etc. They all laid off needed workers to pad their stock prices.
Musk is throwing the company under the bus to try to boost the stock price and secure his free stock bonus.
Shareholders are being wiped out by musk because these layoffs can pad the balance sheet in the short term, but set the company up for failure in the long term. Musk won't care, these rich people can get loans against their stock to cash out without selling.
@@_PatrickO Hope it isn't so. We need more engineer led technology companies to deliver value to customers and end users, and eventually shareholders as well.
Tesla’s development as a company has been amazing to watch, spectacular innovation, growth and disruption of established industries. But lately, under Musk’s increasingly mercurial leadership, it is more like a circular firing squad
@@IndigenousEarthling101 Sadly it seems to be true. Internal descriptions by workers being let go suggests there are now multiple layers of management like a typical MBA ran company. I have some tesla stock and it is not really worth selling while the stock is down, but I'll at least hold to vote against his stock package. The next upswing for any reason will be my dumping point unless musk is fired. I don't invest in companies with MBA style CEOs unless its in a large index fund to balance out their shenanigans.
Thanks for providing some important context and clarity.
Apparently he is now rehiring some of those whom he sacked including the head of the department, see Reuters , possibly because of customer and consumer reaction.
Canada is also very large yet we have Tesla chargers coast to coast. You can cross the country without any worries. It doesn't take that many chargers.
Big Oil has to invest it’s money somewhere NOW! 😂😂😂
Why is it all up to Tesla where is BYD’s network ?
Mr Musk has it worked out
Yeah, like the constipated mathematician, he worked it out with a pencil.
I still believe Tesla are trying to move from Charging network provider to Charging network Hardware provider to other companies and the current network was just a proof of product and they'll eventually sell off the SC network. Will also expect Tesla owners to get some type of discount using Tesla hardware charging stations.
Here in the usa the contractors that bulid the stations say they can't get a hold of anyone at Tesla.
Shocking, no I'm not shocked at all.
I believe there are currently upwards of 84 supercharger locations. Reference Now You Know
It’s ridiculous that so many of these EV charging stations are proprietary. So you’re in your crappy MG EV one stormy wet night and running out of electrons and you have to drive past a perfectly good operational EV charging point that won’t accept you. I’m not anti EV but that doesn’t happen with ICE cars, you pull in anywhere and top up. I experienced this myself with a rental EV in Victoria last year, almost ran out of electrons. Wasn’t fun.
Diving into Revux, the more bullish I become.
Well clearly those 500 weren't doing anything important.
Yep! And very stable geniuses like Musk all know that employee experience, dedication and morale mean nothing at all.
@@freeheeler09
He taught all his employees that they are not in charge. He is.
Sam you need to tell us what kind of coffee you drink to keep this level of video production.
Historically, Tesla has not done anything without a good reason. On the surface, shedding 500 jobs from their Supercharger team may seem alarming. But time will tell and I think we will come to see what that move was all about in the coming months.
Who is going to do this? They fired the people who would do it. That is the question I keep asking. Do you know who?
Yes tesla is rehiring those who are necessary.but with reduced staff.did you see bp north america announced 1 billion order for supercharges with tesla in north americain over next couple of years
Revux market entry timing couldn't be better.
Revux focus on user experience sets a new standard.
They already have a somewhat perfected product.
Revux leadership team is stacked with industry experts.
Tesla sent an email explaining this info to all of its Australian owners. It is shame they didn't explain this earlier.
The speed of Revux transactions is a game-changer.
Australian Main stream media jumps on the wrong track.
It was funny to see how some of the car channels were actually referring to the Tesla charging network in the past tense after the restructuring. Elon Musk did not get where he is today by being stupid.
Musk’s impetuous and capricious management of Twitter and the Tesla Supercharger network are serious chinks in his aura of genius. Elon has done some amazing things, and I hope he continues to do so. But right now he is starting to look like Howard Hughes, a genius going off of the deep end.
This is a knee jerk reaction, Musk has belatedly realised he did a stupid thing and the negative press has been very strong. The news is he is hiring back those supercharger team members. which is to say he needs them to fix the problem he created by being stupid and firing them in the first place.
No, he got where he is today by his father owning an emerald mine. Have you not even tried having rich parents?
Muswellbrook, Scone, Armidale, Hay, Narrabri, Parkes amongst others have Supercharger sites being planned. It is certainly going to become a lot easier to drive rural NSW. Keep them coming Tesla.
Tamworth?Dubbo?
The supercharger network is a huge selling point in America. This was not handled well at all, many consumers choose Tesla for the charging network
Lets be honest the interiors leave something to be desired
Mr Musk's entire handling of this situtation was unnecessarily sloppy and disrespectful to both Tesla's employees and Tesla's partners.
In any large Tech company people can be reassigned to new duties. I’m thinking the first rumor about managers refusing to cut staff is true. He’s just reorganized the entire Devision.
To stand up to her boss is very gutsy. She didn't do it for nothing. Elon screwed up here, blinded by ego. But I would think the truth would come out by now, this rumour seems unreliable.
Not if they are ver 3 or 4 byd can't charge.
This is good to hear! Thank you, Tesla owner in USA
Definitely important considering the biggest charging company in aus just packed there bags and left. Fails to mention that definitely growing 😳
I can’t stand when people pronounce Tesla as “Tezla” 🤦♂️
Then simply get over it & sit down rather than stand!
@@aomurdock it’s a phrase dummy . Not literal . Your joke was lame AF
Either way is correct. ruclips.net/video/YKU-S_bpSvg/видео.htmlsi=DgXmtauO9I3sr4SZ
Elon says Tezla
That's a pity because that is the correct way to pronounce it. A single S in most European languages is pronounced Z. A double S is probably punched S.
@@peterjones6322 well maybe you’d better let Elon musk know he’s saying it wrong …… and the other 99% of people in the world 🤦♂️
Well, obviously everyone sacked wasn't doing anything.
Only 1 person was 'sacked'. The department manager.
@@danharold3087 Best you take that up with all the news organisations reporting what the sacked employees told them.
@@14lou Links ?
@@danharold3087 You'll have no difficulty finding news reports on the sacking of 500 employees.
However, I've not encountered any reports that only one got the sack, so maybe you can provide a source for your claim.
Afternoon mate
Fluff piece.

I like Elon, but it looks like there is no job security working for him. Sad. That said, with gen Z , the future looks bleak too!
Allways a Tesla fanboy
He probably sussed-out some non-qualification-based hiring practices when the chick pushed back on layoffs. Best fire everyone and start over if you have an infestation of no-work alphabet-activists. 🙄
Why build more charging stations when the ones available are empty 🤷♂️
Not a great thinker are you.
Elon's robots will build the new charging stations.
I expect they will.
@@danharold3087 It's a joke but I'm sure tesla fanboys could easily believe it, they believe anything the cult leader says.
@@hwirtwirt4500 It is easy to see why people without an understanding of deep learning or AI in general might think the robots are a joke.
@@danharold3087 What's not easy is seeing brainwashed fanboys without an understanding of reality.
@@hwirtwirt4500 How can you hope to understand the future of AI and Robotics when you don't understand AI and Robotics?
Since when do you trust a direct quote from Tesla?
Aren’t they selling the network to BP?
BP is buying the Tesla V4 chargers and creating their own stations.
Just been reading that Elon is re-hiring a good portion of the great supercharger team, so great news to hear from Tesla.
Revux commitment to transparency is refreshing in the crypto space.
എന്നാലും Elon ഇന്തയോട് ചെയ്തത് തെറ്റായിപ്പോയി!
Was it? Narendra Modi intended to use Elon to further his election campaign. I am sure Elon was uncomfortable with that because if Tesla did build in India Tesla would be in trouble when the government changed hands.
That and if China said come, I would expect Elon to come because he has interests there now. Maybe you should be angry with China.
More EV charging stations in Australia means burning more coal to power them. The transition to solar, wind, etc, is happening but at a snails pace.
So now we have to believe what musk tweets, rather than what he actually does?
Apparently he fired the team in a fit of rage, because the female manager of the team, dared to question his directions. Now apparently he wants to hire them back.
Time will tell what is happening.
Hopefully they’ll all be pull though. As it stands now how will you convert people who tow to EV when they find out you have to unhitch to charge. Think about it. Think of the millions of caravans, boats, jetskis and trailers.
Elson is stuck in opposite world. Following that logic the energy storage team is doing well so they will be fired next.
My concern is Tesla is focusing purely on the AI play and everything non core will go, it might be right though… can anyone compete with CATL and BYD on storage and battery long term… maybe if Tesla invested full on, but the returns on AI should be much higher… high risk though.
@@iainsear7830 Tesla is too mature to be taking startup risk levels. AI should be a new company lead by Elon and let someone else run Tesla.
No. Elon fired the entire Supercharger team and now he is rehiring a lot of the team again. Sounds like he did a dumb move.
Revux is one of the few cryptos with real-world utility.
Revux growth in the past months is just the beginning.
What kind of RUclips channel will you do once EV’s are no longer manufactured?
All big oil propaganda Sam.....Go Tesla go.........
Google "Elon Musk laid off the Tesla Supercharger team; now he’s rehiring them", title of an interesting ars technika article.
It looks like Elon fired them all in some irrational tantrum and will now have to hire back at least part of them to keep the network up.
The charging stations are not enough in NSW better to switch to diesel
I don't like Musk and that is the reason for that I bought a BYD and not a Tesla.
Good luck with a subbpar EV that catches fire regularly and uses low quality materials
@@austinpowers1999 Low Quality, you must be joking. Even Tesla is using BYD Blade Batteries meanwhile like Toyota announced it yesterday that they start using BYD Blade batteries in their EV's.
@@uweballmann6692 bruh, Tesla uses CATL batteries. A little research goes a long way.
Elon runs a tight company but it is pretty ruthless to fire 500 folks when you're raking in billions. Couldn't they transfer these folks to other departments? Thanks Sam.
If you want to keep the momentum going he wouldn’t make stupid and idiotic decisions one week terminating the supercharging team only to then re hire some of them back the week later. The loss of credibility is plain to see. I expect a slow down of supercharger sites globally over the next few months before it gets ramped up again. A disruption that never needed to happen.
That's wonderful. My taxes are going to a foreign car company so those wealthy enough to be able to afford a new car can charge it at more locations and Tesla can prop up its books with my money. Yay.
How about that! Now you have the opportunity to breathe better & have hope for your future offspring!
Understand what you are saying, but at least you will breathe cleaner air, and eventually you will get your own EV. The majority of money Elon gets he is “stealing” from other shareholders.
When you buy your Chinese EV you will have a place to charge it.
Cry harder. Our tax money has always and continues to also go to subsidising oil companies. At least this is helping make cleaner transport more accessible to more people unlike the other thing.
We don’t get to choose where our taxes go unfortunately. You’d be floored if you look into corporate welfare for example
@@JoshuaMcTackett "Our tax money has always and continues to also go to subsidising oil companies". Please, tell me more.
The last time that I went to the fuel bouser, I paid 42 cents tax on every litre of petrol that went into my car.
Fortunately, I don't fill up too often.
Sam has no idea what he’s saying one day it’s one day next thing it’s completely different.
