    Unfortunately the movie couldn’t go deeper with any character because they were caught up on the twist reveal. Thus going deeper into any other character’s background would have given the reveal away because every other main character knew. Thus the writers wrote themselves into a corner and didn’t know how to get out or change paths

    I truly wonder just how different the reception to the film would've been from the general public if the all the nonsense around it hadn't happened. I remember most people being genuinely excited about this when it was announced.

      If anything, I think the film actually benefited more from the drama. It'll make it's money back on word of mouth alone because everyone wants to know what it was all about.
      The film itself is just fine. It's nothing particularly special. If you take Florence Pugh out of the equation, the film is a complete waste of time. Her performance is the one thing holding you for the two hours.

      Yeah when it was announced, meaning that we haven't seen the actual finish product, know absolutely nothing what it had to offer so it was a completely different situation. Even without the drama, I think the reception would've been the same as the reception was mostly about the movie's quality than the drama

    I do think there needed to be a little bit more explanation on how the Victory project works exactly. But I think the reason why she was seeing the plane (its the same one as Margaret's son's toy plane) or the empty eggs was her subconscious trying to tell her that something was off. And I think "the earthquakes" were just as an alibi for the men being away and so that they wouldnt venture into the desert. I saw it with my mom and we definitely raised questions about how she was being kept alive. Because an IV alone wouldnt be enough. Unless she had a feeding tube as well. But who was taking care of her while Jack was away. Does the Victory project employ nurses to go round and change IV's and bedpans and what not. But overall, I did really like the film. I loved Olicia's directing style and the performances were good. Harry Styles was not bad. I feel similarly how I felt with Dunkirk...he did a serviceable job. Nothing more, nothing less.

  • @PowerDiva

    100% spot on about Harry Styles. I felt the same way after watching.... he didn't ruin the movie or anything but he just wasn't that great. I left the theater listing off all the people in my head that probably could have done a better job in that role. It was quite a long list, unfortunately. Considering that he seems to be the source of a lot of the on set drama, it's just too bad they didn't actually cast someone else in that role.

      I think Pugh is the only potential nomination this could get. Even then, I don't think she'd care to campaign for the movie. If the category isn't too crowded, maybe cinematography because it's Libatique.

  • @monicamerle1417

    I just came out of the theater and this is how I'd describe DWD:
    The build-up: "The Stepford wives" meets "Get Out", also tooo longgg
    The twist: a rip-off of "The Matrix"
    The ending: a rip-off of "The Truman show".
    However, I enjoyed the ride more than I thought I would. The music and the cinematography are effective for building up tension. Ms Flo is great, she did wonders with that unoriginal and undeveloped script. And Harry Styles needs a couple of years of acting classes, although Shia Lebouf wouldn't have been the right casting choice either 🤦🏼‍♀️ The character needed an actor that could work on the layers in a deeper level like an Andrew Garfield (though he's older than the character's age but you get the idea)

    *Spoilers if you haven't seen it*
    The whole movie I was waiting for more development from Violet (from the newly introduced couple in the movie), it seemed like there were times where it was going to happen through her reactions to the goings on around her but there was nothing. Plus when Gemma Chan's character said "it's my turn now" after stabbing Chris Pine I fully thought we were going to get a scene or two more explaining what she meant or just giving her more to do besides blindly following her husband and then killing him randomly? Plus Olivia Wilde's character said when a "man" dies in the simulation they die in the real world which made me wonder about the women and if so did that mean that Kiki Layne's character is alive in the real world? And also on that she said they cut most of her and her partner's scenes from the movie which makes me think there may have been more about the plane possibly? Idk there was so much more they could have done with the movie but in many ways it just felt like they took the lazy route and didn't really add anything new to the viewing experience.

    I disagree about Harry Styles. I think people are feeding into the media frenzy. I thought his performance was fine, it absolutely did not take me out of the movie. Was it super memorable? No. Was it bad? No. I do agree the other cast members were giving more than he was, but for a newcomer actor his performance really was not as bad as people are making him out to be.

    • @martincurran4985
      @martincurran4985 2 года назад +3

      I agree. I didn't think there was much to really comment on. He was perfectly serviceable. It could be a case of the role just didn't fit him. It's not to say he doesn't have a future as an actor.

    • @isaacrichter3269
      @isaacrichter3269 2 года назад +6

      I think that's the problem. The character he was playing had too much promise and too many interesting layers to entrust on someone who was, for all intents and purposes, a newcomer actor. I would have loved to see what a younger Chris Pine would have done with that role (or that Chris Pine had had more to do with the role he had, because the best stuff in the film are the standoffs between Pine and Florence Pugh)... I enjoyed the movie, but I also feel it didn't achieve what it set out to do, and it probably would have been better if it hadn't leaned more into melodrama and made it less serious...

    I totally disagree about Harry Styles. His character is given very little to do and there’s a lot of moments of just standing in the background and he did a good job with what he was given. People were already looking to hate on his performance and that wasn’t fair. There’s not many layers in the character because the screen play doesn’t explores it and blaming on Harry doesn’t make sense. And also blaming him when there’s a director directing him is also unfair. But for me he was good. And the film despite the flaws it’s a entertaining ride.

    • @Belfastboi

      Oh she was directing him alright. Just not on set. Enjoy watching him being a pop star and support that, he ain’t an actor. Even the critics agree. Seems like a nice fella but he shouldn’t be allowed near Florence Pugh ever again. She must have been like WTF is this? Shouting is not acting

    Loved the cinematography and score. Florence was absolutely great. She stole the show as expected. Harry was good I don’t get why everyone hates him. He was great in some scenes, questionable in others. Of course he was not gonna be as good as Flo or Chris. The plot was weak af. It could have been a very good movie but it was okay. The whole drama and buzz worked I guess cause the cinema was packed.

    Harry Styles did good in this movie, as good as anybody else except maybe Pugh, but the notion he wasn’t/isn’t good to me stems from just not liking him overall, cause this movie doesn’t prove that he’s just some terrible actor or needs work. So it sounds like this is a flick that was written by a woke regressive sycophant on a basis full of misunderstood concepts. Wow between this flicks hatred of traditional family values & men's health and The Woman King's support of slavery & tribal violence it really looks like Hollywood has gone full radical leftard. It is too bad as I am a fan of Florence and Midsommar, which was in my Top 3 the year of its release, tackled similar themes without dragging the entire gender of men & showing itself to be intellectually hollow in the end. Maybe Ms. Wilde should have read Mr. Peterson's two available books before passing judgment on a man she clearly knew nothing about.

    I thought Florence held the movie single handed. I think Olivia shouldn’t have cast herself in this role. Curious if you have any theories as to why the planes were there, why there were earthquakes, why Chris Pine's character needed to be stabbed, why this needed to exist in a simulation, why only the men could die in the simulation when the women were the ones hooked up to the simulation 24/7, etc. I feel like there's too many plotholes in this movie. The first two acts were really great, but the third act was terrible imo and negates a lot of what made the first two acts excellent because they lead to nothing.

    • @marianne5055
      @marianne5055 2 года назад

      @@Nuslerosh Plane was likely her unconcious trying to tell her something was wrong. The "earthquakes" were the men doing work. Remember during the shopping scene where the pregnant lady says she heard they are working on weapons? Obviously no weapons are being made but its likely thrown in there so that the women believe the men are working and also to give them a good reason to not venture off in the desert. Chris Pine got stabbed because Gemma wanted to take over the business. She said it was her time. ANYBODY that dies in the simulation can die in real life. In no way did they say it was just the men. Also that whole idea is taken right from The Matrix. As for why its a simulation.....why not? Maybe trying to build a real life town would raise too many eyebrows and this is more "off the radar", maybe because you can have whatever life you want like Jack (Harry) choosing to be British or Olivia having kids etc.
