True, but handily the DJI specs gave a hover-test spec to match it against. A trick I learned is if you are flying over water , let’s say you are in a boat flying your drone. It will make a home point. So no information about what batteries are in the drone are transmitted out? I live in the wilderness of Canada. And I will be flying low or very far from civilization. I don't want to have to get a pilots license for 50gm
Hi Ian, is it possible to import the non EU version of the drone/controller. Thinking about range restrictions on EU/UK drones and how to bypass them. Thanks.
There is no different version. The transmission changes based on location. There are a few hacks out there but in truth I do not see the need for them. Next video covers this in a few days...👍🏻
discharging your batteries to 0% will kill your batteries faster. Land when you are at 15/20% mark, and use them for years. Lithium battery will also degrade quickly if left fully charged and not used( dendrite formation).
I know that this video is almost one year old so hopefully you can comment. I just got the mini 3 pro after I could not get batteries for my Hubsan drone. The Hubsan was a great drone but the batteries only last about 6-8 months before you lose 30% flying time. At 1 year you are lucky to get 50% flight time. Yes I discharged to 50% between flights, I usually only fly 2 times per month and kept at room temp away from the sun. So would you advise me to buy a few extra batteries so I do not run into this problem, or does DJI continue to sell these batteries for years to come Thank you again for the test
They do seem to sell them for a good few years, and if you buy spares but don't use them, the batteries will brick up and fail regardless. My advice is always buy the combo package so you get 3 batteries in total, and mark them 1,2,3 and use them roughly in rotation, so they all get used regularly.
From the 34th minute you lost standard use of the drone - for the next 6 minutes you were occupied in constantly pushing the left stick up, and couldn't do anything else. So by your demo, the plus battery gives only 34 minutes of normal use of the drone.
Ok that's battery life basically just hovering. You have any documented times in sport mode or normal mode. Actually flying. I would like to know before I spend the money on the mini three I have the mini2 now but, I would really like more flight time
Well as I say in the video, constant turning and flying with varying winds doesn't make for an accurate test, but I have had 40mins + regularly. For me, it's worth it but as others have pointed out, it's £120 or so for an extra 13-15 mins
Very interesting! Sorry if it’s already covered here, but does this pack have an aggressive self discharge like the lipos? I want to be able to keep my mini in the boot and have it ready for use when a suitable need arises without finding all my packs have dropped to 60%
Yes; they're all lithium ion. DJI feel they also need to avoid being left at full charge. But, with a decent car phone charger, you can charge on the go....
40 minutes???? The site states 47 minutes! That’s FALSE advertising ALL day! I just purchased the DJI mini 3 Pro Fly more Plus kit AND a Intelligent Battery Plus thinking I will get 47 minutes out of each battery and I’ll use the standard battery that comes with my DJI mini 3 Pro I just ordered as a “back up” battery.
Hi Ian, just to say yet another scammer reached out to me from this video! Ed Ricker posted a video on a scammer & talks about a great programme you might be able to use as RUclips dont seem to be resolving the scammer issue. Check it out - might save you a lot of time. Meanwhile question for you - have mavic mini that takes ages to charge the 3 battery unit. Couldnt find a ‘quick charge’ video in your collection… any recommendations for a charger to improve speed in charging? Many thanks 😎
Complete waste of money IMHO, just get the fly more kit, land the darn thing and swap the battery out if it's low. Not only will you get more than the additional 10 mins on the 2nd battery and still you'll be flying under the 250g limit.
A lot of time and effort it seems is going to be used to come up with potentially a complete new set of rules that will be just as useless and un-enforcable as the ones we already have. Dare say it will keep some people in the CAA in a job though. They lost a lot of credibility in terms of their 'Safety' mantra when they decided the only thing you need to fly sub 250 is the operator ID which you have to pay for and not the flyer ID which at least you have to prove you have a at least a little knowledge of the rules.
Fair point; that requirement for the Op Id instead of Flyer ID really annoys me and is completely the wrong way round. But I'm hoping the rules for smaller drones and even mid sized like the Air2S will be simplified and eased.
@@IaninLondon Agreed. I would love to have been a fly on the wall when that discussion took place. Clearly they are not happy with some things in the existing rules, not that they are going to tell us what they are. After just 18 months since the current rules were implemented, they should really explain why they believe there is a pressing need to waste more public money. The Government should also be asking them the same question.
Tests like this doesn’t tell the actual flight time. A real test is out pushing the drone and recording which is a real world test. Nobody buys a drone to just hover. Also the last seven or eight minutes of this test was actually damaging to the battery. Plus the last eight minutes was truly wasted if you was actually using it for real. Not the test that I would base this drone on. I usually get right at 33 minutes before having to bring it in and swap batteries to keep using it as a drone is intended to be used.
I explained all those points.... How do you fly "real world" for 45 mins? Constant turning? Constant straight line? And unsure why last 8 mins wasted.... Good to know the low battery protocols that kick in.....
Thank you very much for the video, could u make a video comparing both remotes DJI RC and N1, I've read that the new control is hard to use and looses the signal easier than the N1, so for you having both controls have u tested? what control is better talking only about signal range, thanks in advance, if you already know the answer, please, let me know.
Wow Ian, not bad mate. Looks to me that every country has this weight restriction where you have to be registered except us here in Australia. So far apart from staying away from airports and people and height we are pretty free to fly and weight drone. How long this lasts though we don’t know, but we make the most of it while we can. Love your videos mate.
Appreciate the tips on how to get the Mini 3 Pro extended battery plus. I’m going to get one for sure. Been amazing flying this mini drone but of course keeping the restrictions in mind.
What if I put a bar of chocolate on my DJI mini 3 with it weighting under 249 grams with chocolate on it it will propbavle weight more would I need a license
I love your very informative videos. I am considering purchasing a Mini 3 Pro to replace my 1st generation Mavic Air. I have 2 issues with my Air. The first one is the batteries seem to self discharge down to 50 or 60% in less than a day. The other is that it requires recalibrating the compass every time I fly and usually takes up to 10 minutes to finally get it calibrated at which point I need to change out batteries and then half the time it wants a compass recalibration because I changed the battery. I was unable to get a sunrise shot at Carhenge, Nebrasks because I went through all my 50% charged batteries trying to get the compass calibrated. Given that situation with the Mavic Air, I wonder if I will experience the same problems with the Mini 3 Pro.
Cheers Bruce. I think your batteries may be on their way out if they're discharging that quickly. I also recall the Air was very quick to tell you to recalibrate even if it didn't really need to. In truth, the Air 2, the Air 2S and the Mini 3 are lightyears ahead of the original Air; it would be a brilliant upgrade for you and you'll love the proper range you get too.
if you recharge a lithium immediately after a full depletion and don't let it sit at all it will be just fine. the low voltage protection is there for just that in most devices. it is when you let them sit depleted for a period of time and they sag below safe low voltage that damage takes place, which would be a good amount of time sitting. just my two cents i have been dealing with lithium cells for about 20 years now and study them closely. always good to do some research though as some lithium cell technology is different and also there are they odd device out there with no protection that can deplete you cells below safe values.
@@User-jr7vf Short term I would say it is perfectly fine. Possibly even long term. They ship the drone with the battery in it so I assume you have not to worry about parasitic draw with the drone, it seems to have good protections built in.
If I recall correctly, In the old days, for good health, a lipo should really stay above 20% charge but that 20% starts at 3v per cell (100% at 4.2v) so about 3.3v. Don't have a mini 3 but on other DJI drones I've tried it on, a DJI 0% still gives a voltage reading of around 3.4/3.5v so still well above the danger level and even more above the 3.0v level at which lipo's are said to die. As you say, regular use down to a DJI 0% will shorten life as compared with not doing but it's nowhere near as critical as it was with non-intelligent batteries. Worth always checking though as somebody at some point will do a battery that gives extra time because they reduce this safety margin. So worth checking the actual voltages in the Fly App after landing from time to time to as these are the main levels to watch. Thanks again for a great test as always.

Hi Ian, great video! Just bought the Mini 3 and am still in doubt between buying the Fly More regular or Plus, considering weight, restrictions to fly, etc. Never mind the price, which is proportional. I thought I would go for the regular, but your video made me rethink. Are there more pros than cons to the Plus battery? Cheers from Rio.
That’s why I was refunded for the wide angle lens it would take it over 250g and you only have a gram spare. They say the wide angle lens isn’t for sale in the Uk.
Thank you for your test, it's alway great to have a little extra flight time, I could have done with those batteries on my last holiday as I had to keep change them half way through filming and then trying to get them all recharged before my next flight. I will have to get one before my next trip.
I pray that Australia doesn't follow the UK/EU/USA with the restrictions.. But I wont hold my breath.. So far I'm enjoying our mostly common sense rules..
@@IaninLondon True that, so far I've been switching form brand to brand and Xiaomi is the one that delivered best in terms of performance to price; photo quality which is for me important and BEEFY chargers.
Good video. I hold an A2 CofC certifcation and its still confusing to me with CE marked / unmarked and transitional periods changing etc etc. Correct me if i'm wrong but the Mini 3 is still not CE marked for class C0 is it? What I would say is that putting the Mini 3 into the C1 category (
Lots going on here.... CE is just a basic marking allowing sale in Europe. Everything has it, from your washing machine to your toaster. Numeric C classifications are what you want to look for; as yet, very few drones have them but in the UK this is not a problem as the CAA have notified us that the transition period will be extended indefinitely and the entire numeric C classes system is to be looked at again to see if fit for purpose. And yep, you're right on the intentional flying over people; use the small battery and you're fine to fly over anyone. For sub 250 gm drones, the A2CofC is not even necessary; it only affects 250-500 gm models or numeric classified models (of which there are v few as said). Cheers! :)
Awesome video as always Ian. I'm so glad more people from the Uk are trying these plus batteries. I can understand to a certain point but I still think it's a crazy plan not to give you the option of being able to purchase these considering that the rules may be revised or scrapped. Where is the best place to get these plus batteries.
I would hunt around. AliExpress do them, as do eBay, but as said, watch out and maybe confirm with the seller that these are defo the extended batteries beforehand. CHeers
@@IaninLondon Thanks Ian, yeah I did notice another channel Gavin got his from Ali express, these plus batteries are they around £100 more for the fly more kit as I know the normal fly more kit is £159 in the Uk. Did you buy the normal fly more kit and then purchase 1 or 2 of the plus batteries separately thanks 😊
How strange. I did exactly the same test. Brand new Plus battery, 100% charged, completely windless under a canopy. I managed to stretch it to a maximum of 35 minutes.
How much damage does the battery cop from going this low ? - i was always taught never to go below 20% if you want to optimise the cycles that the battery will deliver. Going this low into the battery repeatedly will radically reduce the battery life and ability to output max power (for example to fight wind) in a short period of time Hopefully DJI built in some hidden reserve to protect battery chemistry!

So no information about what batteries are in the drone are transmitted out? I live in the wilderness of Canada. And I will be flying low or very far from civilization. I don't want to have to get a pilots license for 50gm
I think there's an element of "if a tree falls in the woods and no one hears it, does it make a sound"..... 😉
Shame you didn’t have it recording Ian, I’m pretty sure that would deplete the battery faster.
True, but I wanted to test the flight as best I could; I should have turned off the OA too...
@@IaninLondon maybe another video then? 👍🏻😂
@@mightyenid yeah, I want to do one actually flying... Won't be scientific but will give a good indication 👍🏻
Heck, if you need more batteries, I can pick some up for you. So long as you pay for all charges to ship them to you.
Would you get the same times when the model is having to power against a good wind
Rather than a hovver in the garden
Agree. The ridiculous laws are out of control.
Батарея ещё рабочая? Если так ее пару раз разрядить, то произойдет деградация ёмкостей..
discharging your batteries to 0% will kill your batteries faster. Land when you are at 15/20% mark, and use them for years. Lithium battery will also degrade quickly if left fully charged and not used( dendrite formation).
Yes, I do mention this at the end :)
So would you advise me to buy a few extra batteries so I do not run into this problem, or does DJI continue to sell these batteries for years to come
Thank you again for the test
They do seem to sell them for a good few years, and if you buy spares but don't use them, the batteries will brick up and fail regardless. My advice is always buy the combo package so you get 3 batteries in total, and mark them 1,2,3 and use them roughly in rotation, so they all get used regularly.
@@IaninLondon nice, thank you for the reply, did not think about marking them, great advice
Why not show voltage when it landed
Also yes it wont "ruin" the battery, dont think they go below 2.5v at any point
From the 34th minute you lost standard use of the drone - for the next 6 minutes you were occupied in constantly pushing the left stick up, and couldn't do anything else. So by your demo, the plus battery gives only 34 minutes of normal use of the drone.
This was a test to get the max time down to zero. You'd have similar endings with a standard battery, at a shorter flight time....
For me, it's worth it but as others have pointed out, it's £120 or so for an extra 13-15 mins
is this d same thing with the mini2 batt?! it cannot override force landing once reached 0%?!
Yes. I've done a video on the Mini 2 down to zero as well last year
برافواا جيد😅
No one shows battery temp :(
Very interesting! Sorry if it’s already covered here, but does this pack have an aggressive self discharge like the lipos? I want to be able to keep my mini in the boot and have it ready for use when a suitable need arises without finding all my packs have dropped to 60%
All DJI models apart from the Mini 1 have a 5-10 day auto discharge that reduces things to 60%. You can't amend that....
@@IaninLondon Thanks for the reply, I can understand the logic of auto discharge for lipo, but isn’t the extended pack using li-ion cylindrical cells?
Yes; they're all lithium ion. DJI feel they also need to avoid being left at full charge. But, with a decent car phone charger, you can charge on the go....
Wish my dog would ignore my drones like Ted.
In fairness, he's now seen hundreds of take offs 🤠
Rules rules Rules … 👍👍✌️.CA
Why can’t Dji just put the label the battery instead of the drone, problem solved 😉🙏
That's like getting upset that you do t get the 56mph mileage advertised on your car. It depends how you fly 👍🏻
consider aliexpress
And that's why I posted this.... see the facts; makes your choice :)
Don’t know how DJI get their flight times, must fly the drone in an anechoic chamber!
Well in this case, the performance matched the spec..... but yeah, actual flight times, not sure on that.
You will not get 40 minutes when you are flying. You got it by hovering only.
This is the next test. Remember the specs give even longer time by flying...
Brilliant content and delivery. Clear, concise and to the point. A dog lover too. Winner 😊👍
Hi, do you know why DJI warns against storing the battery in the drone?
Cheers from Rio.
great video with clear narration.
Brilliant once again. Suprised how much more you can push it. Thanks 😊👍
Great video! I was sold at 37 mins.
Cheers Karen. I reckon we really will get a 40 - 45 minute flight time from these.....
I pray that Australia doesn't follow the UK/EU/USA with the restrictions.. But I wont hold my breath..
So far I'm enjoying our mostly common sense rules..
'Your phone will take hours!' Hold my beer - takes out my 55W Xiaomi charger that takes 55min to charge Mini 2 from 5% to full XD
Most phone chargers aren't 55w.... ;)
@@IaninLondon True that, so far I've been switching form brand to brand and Xiaomi is the one that delivered best in terms of performance to price; photo quality which is for me important and BEEFY chargers.
I'm up to 5 standard batteries now. You can now get them on Amazon UK. Yet the main dji suppliers and even dji direct are still saying pre order only.
Cheers! :)
very useful to know it will still give you time left after reaching 0
@@scottjackson1812 I already had the normal Flymore kit. I just bought the 2 batteries for £100 each. Cheers 👍🏻
@@IaninLondon awesome thanks for the information 😀
What is the duration of the standard battery please. Have you done a test video on these . Cheers great content Ian ...!!!
I had anxiety about getting the battery too low
Good to know how long I can push it before it's out of my hands
Thanks for the info
Thanks for the time lapse flight time & over ride tip. It look like there was some wind so I think that is a good time
How strange. I did exactly the same test. Brand new Plus battery, 100% charged, completely windless under a canopy. I managed to stretch it to a maximum of 35 minutes.
Love your videos Ian...very informative. Looking to trade my mini 1 for the mini 3 soon
How much damage does the battery cop from going this low ? - i was always taught never to go below 20% if you want to optimise the cycles that the battery will deliver.
Going this low into the battery repeatedly will radically reduce the battery life and ability to output max power (for example to fight wind) in a short period of time
Hopefully DJI built in some hidden reserve to protect battery chemistry!
Well, I do say not to do this repeatedly. But I think DJI build some reserve into the display too 👍🏻
FAB Video Ian. I finally received my fly more pack for my new DJI Mini 3 Pro…so far I do like the drone, but feels plasticky compared to my ancient DJI Spark :)
That Plastic feel is giving you sub-250 gm freedom! :) Good to hear from you! Cheers, Ian
Cheers Ian, good field test to give confidence to alleged battery specs! 😎
Thank you Ian for another great video learning more all the time with my mini 3 😀
I gotta say I fully agree with Ted on this one.
