10:23 “like, a hotdog isn’t impressive, it’s good though” - Nick the Philosopher
Clearly he does not know what a real hotdog is! :P
Dude it's a hot dog, it's not gonna file your taxes for you or anything but they're ok.
You should do a Strat of Theseus episode where you start with a custom shop strat and slowly replace every part with another identical part to see if the strat still has the same soul
YES TO THIS
BEST LIVE JAM BAND on the Internet -- If there is ever a GRAMMY category for said, y'all GOTTA be nominated first!
Completely agree man. They’re all so in groove with each other and they just get better
And thc gummy goes to.. I mean, the Grammy goes to..
“In a way, that was pedal world news.” Josh’s dry humor always keeps me coming back.
Mr. Benson fixed a 60 year old problem with what sound like a 60 year old solution that someone forgot to have.
I want to see a dark side episode. Bring on amp exploders and doom style stuff. Mixing that with this show’s meta humor would make the world implode.
This needs to happen.
It’d make the world implode into the Doomy/Sludgey way it ought to be. ⛈🌪🖤🎼
This is probably the first time I've bought a new pedal _before_ seeing it on the JHS show... Ripped Speaker FTW
This was sooo good. We welcome your face and voice Joshua. The monologue at the end was epic! I love the sounds from EVERY pedal that you guys demo’ed aaaand the jams were awesome guys. I’d love to just hang, be silly and jam with you dudes. 🤘🏽
Another great live cast I got to see almost a year later! In keeping with my plan to comment on every episode I watch no matter how old, I wanted to say awesome job!
It's nice to see the new show person, Joshua. I loved his words of poetry at the end.
Nick, Addison and Josh, as always you guy's rock. Don't stop.
"People Get Ready" the Jeff Beck version (featuring Rod Stewart), has great guitar playing on it.
If you want to explore The Who, I highly recommend getting _Live At Leeds_ and just seeing how that feels. Personally, I consider it a desert island disc that I simply can't live without.
Top tier who for sure
Not necessarily better, but if you haven’t already, try to give Live at Hull (recorded the night after Live at Leeds) a listen. Keith’s drums and Pete’s guitar cut through the mix so beautifully I hear details I never heard on Live at Leeds.
@@vocalion9519 _Hull_ definitely has a different energy to it than the _Leeds_ show. For the full Tommy experience, Hull's a must-have.
Don’t care for The Who outside of Live At Leeds. It’s a banger of an album. Great recommendation.
Yes. As loud as possible. Agreed!
The EHX Ripped Speaker sounds GREAT!
Sounds great and sounds like shit! I gotta have it. Electro Harmonix just keeps on swingin' for the fences, pushing the boundaries and whatever your favorite analogy may be.
One of the best live shows I've seen; you guys or anyone else! And BTW, three killer musicians...
PS: Don't know how you did it, but excellent drum SOUND (EQ/micing/whatever). Well done, sir.
Great show & welcome to Joshua - Loved your spoken word jam.
The control labelled "Colour" on phasers is almost always a feedback circuit, putting some of the output effect signal back to the input. A little alteration of the tone going through that feedback path is often necessary to ensure that things don't turn into oscillation.
It's the same principle as the "Repeat" control on an echo.
The Colour switch on a Small Stone switches in both a feedback circuit and a tone modifying circuit.
Man, so many of these pedals are killer! That Minim pedal jam was so epic! Love that Solid Gold pedal and the Benson Germanium...I may have to personally pickup up one of them. That Mister-O phaser to me is honestly the best phaser pedal I've heard yet. That is a definite purchase for when I buy a phaser, hands down!
I just want to say thanks Josh, from the bottom of my heart. I've always liked the idea and sound of fuzz but have never been able to find one I like to play... until this video.
The EHX Ripped Speaker is absolutely perfect for me, it's exactly what I've always wanted out of a fuzz pedal and I never would've even heard of it if it wasn't for you.
Bought it (and a boss RC-5 to get more exercise time in) the other day and I love playing it and it's getting along really well with all the other little pedals.
Love splatter...bias control on fuzzface. My next build.
Which time of the year do I love reverb most...?
Spring !!
And It`s now....!
In Sweden at least.
Thanks for a great show!
Your jams are getting better and better.
I re-subscribed, because you asked so nicely, and looked deep into my soul.
I have an idea for a pedal - a kill switch for Josh’s mic that sits on the floor next to Nick. #muteurmic
Addison playing what we have been waiting for...just playing. Love to see the creativity on display.
THIS is what made the biggest difference in the level of jam. An inflection point on the JHS jam curve.
Still hoping for a Josh/Paul Gilbert show.
Edit: a few of the tunes were very Early-U2- with a more adventurous guitarist😉
The "feel" of The Who is that they were really loose as band, often almost chaotic. The feel of AC/DC is that they are tight and tidy like Swiss clockwork.
You sounded like AC/DC instead of The Who because you were keeping time with a simple pattern on the drums instead of going berserk, and the bass didn't have enough fast flourishes and held the roots too much. It's all in the rhythm section, not in what the guitar does.
OMG I instantly fell in love with the MINIM, it's basically GodspeedYou!BlackEmperor in a box, I need to get my hands on one
" On the roads in my head. Burnt rubber by the bed?" Would make nice lyrics during the phaser part.
Nick is the Mayor of chill town
I wish I had something critical to say, but you guys are absolutely crushin' it every single g-damn time!
Premier Guitar magazine made me a pedal junkie , and your videos are the fix I need to keep from od'ing on new pedals. THX!
glad to see some more OBNE stuff on the channel!
These 4 should always do the live streams. This feels like a complete team. Stick Josh on a Synth and the band is even more complete also!
Love the Pedal Jams. You guys are awesome
Pre ordered the mister o. Thanks for the heads up on it.
That was fun to watch. Good tone too.
Every time I thought to myself “this is the best jam of the show for sure” the next one would always somehow surpass it, I need this album!
This may be the best one yet. Superb jams!
I'm so sad I had to work during this one! That ripped speaker fuzz is sooo sweet. Thanks again for Pedals the Musical XD
Josh helped me out in customer support. He is awesome!
That Benson fuzz is really awesome sounding!
This was great. Keep em coming
Great to have you back doing the live shows again. The weekend special is never enough!
How about an episode on smaller Japanese pedal makers? Crane tortoise/Albit, Noah’sARK, Providence, custom Audio Japan, etc? Also maybe an episode on Russian, Polish and Australian pedal makers? A Pedal World Tour!
Joshua NAILED it with that spoken word country & western space jam.
these pedals are all new to me. lol. love your "dive right in" approach.
This one was one of my favourites! The extra Josh added more flavour to the formula!
I loved Pitfall on my Atari when I was younger!
Gotta get your rhythm/timing exactly right to miss the birds 4 the swinging❕
It's still good.
I wasn’t too excited about that ripped speaker sounding pedal but I’m now liking it.
One of my favorite live feeds from you guys. Like the addition of Josh.
..why not add more Josh's to the show. I'm available, 😉 😉
Rosewood neck. Temperature controlled fuzz. Yet another unique combination by "just tryin' stuff." Kudos to improved family life.
Back in 1970 we used to use a neater version of the tansistor heater in the first analog music symthesisers eg VCS3 type. You could buy 5 transistors on a single die in a single package. Use one for heating, one for temperature sensing to feedback power to the heater and provide stable temp. control, and a third, now temperature regulated as the useful device. It would function to perform linear-to-logarithmic voltage control in the voltage-controlled oscillators. This is necessary because equal shifts in pitch is a logarithmic (exponential) sequence, not linear.
Shivers! Shivers, I tell you, went up my spine! The Goddess in New Mexico!
Add Joshua to the video crew. He’s simply a must have.
About 33 min in - great education stuff there. Thanks!
Awesome episode today guys ... jams were really cool with some great sounds ... p.s whats for dinner 💁♂️
Awesome bass tones. Opened that can o' whoopass indeed.
Nice to be able to hear the bass a little.
100% would buy "The Cowboy Bible".
Also: I would watch a video Joshua just reading the directions for your pedals. It would probably help me on nights I can't put myself to sleep. Such a calming voice.
I'd totally buy a "Fuzz Is Life (Sometimes)" shirt
The post rock jam was amazing
Gave a like for Joshua. New star of the show.
I'm sure it's been mentioned, but the brothers in the Kinks are Ray and Dave Davies. They pronounce their surname Davis. Great show!
That Benson pedal sound! 😲😲😲😲 sounds really good 😁 probably also because of the amp + guitar.
Let's acknowledge how massive those fuzz tones are through an amp set squeaky clean. Totally did not expect that. I don't know what magic is happening where JHS filmed this, but y'all need to put that in a bottle and sell it.
Love the show and enjoy learning things from Josh - with that orange strat and dark rosewood neck looks like a pumpkin LOL- keep up the witty sarcasm pumpkin player you rock!
Oh man, that Schock Rock jam was some serious “Music From The Hearts of Space” guitar episode goodness.
Looking forward to the musical "Pedals of The Seventies" Act 2.
Watched the musical on your channel then behind the scenes with Rhett. Another level-up for both channels!👍
Copious Award nominations should follow.
As always terrific!
I love the spacy jams! Please make an album! Just silliness is perfect. And add TPS in for added craziness!
Yeaaaaaah... I'm gonna need that TPS report on my desk by end of day. Okay? Thaaaaanks
Oh man, pitfall! Brings back memories of days hopping on crocodiles and swinging on ropes. That joystick feel has never been achieved anymore, for better or worse. And more modern systems need wood panelling.
I'm from Portland. I have a couple of Mr. Black pedals. Man, that Shock Rock guy, I want one of his boxes in my rig. I dig those graphics.
that Imperial MKII sounds incredible on guitar!
My fave gear show on youtube.
Josh I really love the channel and the fact that even when you build and sell pedals, you will feature good pedals from other manufacurers.
If I may suggest/request a topic: beginner setup of budget pedals.
Background is both my son and I want to each get a budget setup, but surely do not want to bust the bank. Perhaps one all purpose and one Rock/Blues specific?
I would also look to a setup that does not expect a certain amp. So no built in reverb or such.
Thanks!
Ok wow! That controlled temperature fuzz idea is absolutely killer! I bet he has temp sensors in there to activate and shut off that resistor on top!
I just stayed in the „loading“ screen because that loop is sick 😂
I'm after one of those Mister O's: I've heard that Quicksilver Messanger Service used the original maestro phaser all over the happy trails album, one of my favorite live albums ever.
Dude. We need more of your josh friend with the third eye stary goddess story! That dude was fun!
Can we take a second to talk about and appreciate Nick’s absolutely lovely shirt? Great design, and well played sir.
Cookin up some fine tones here
seriously, best jam so far with the whoop ass.
Thermodynamics would suggest a heat sink method would have limited affect at higher temperatures. Granted, we're talking extremes here. What it's going to do is provide consistency under normal conditions. The signal chain solve is interesting.
Josh- you are a great guitarist- super musical!!
That Strat is really cool looking
Man at 45:00 that's such a great sound I love that chewy single coil Hendrix tone
The A jam with the Benson Fuzz *was impressive*
I too have a partscastor that isn't put together due to neck and neck pocket fitment! I really need to get it finished...
I have 2 solid gold fx fuzz pedals and i love them so so much
Pitfall oh wow, got the 2600 for Christmas back when it was 1st released I can still hear the digital "Tarzan yell" when swinging on the rope lol. Really curious about ehx ripped speaker, love the show bravo on the musical.
The “People Get Ready” jam 47:04 along with being like "Waiting on the World to Change" is also so like Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So. “ And that jam also sounded a little like "Under The Bridge" by RHCP. Don't hate on me for mentioning RHCP, outside of this tune, i don't like 'em much either :D
Love phaser, and yes, immediately ordered a Mister-O 44:04 after that jam. At the moment there are none on Reverb and the best i could manage was a pre-order for one that _might_ get here in October. Another kudos to JHS for giving me an excellent itch to scratch.
That chocolate strat is dope!
It's about time you've given some love to the Maestro Phase Shifter! I've been looking for a pedal to replicate the Maestro PSA-1 to reproduce Rush from their first four albums!
Yeah, so I turned out to be the guy who bought the minim that you mention on Reverb hahaha First OBNE pedal, thanks for mentioning that one! I looooove effects like that with reverse 😬
After much trial and error and experimenting, I've determined that buffers generally alter some fundamental qualities in many circuits, not just Ge fuzzes and drives. This really can be something that adds clarity or dimension, or that loses desired content, and you almost HAVE to go individual design by design to see what suits you. With simple Fuzz Face / Treble Booster circuits, - & because they often benefit from batteries ,anyway, - I've concluded that it's better to just put them on the floor, before the board; and this way, they can be swapped out, cooled in the fridge, - whatever,- to your heart's desire.
The important thing is that the pedals are helping to keep you creative and engaged, and not getting in the way, or creating stress or headaches.I praise Josh for constantly pushing this point, because I see how often the " gate keeping" attitudes, - including the anti boutique,- rear their ugly heads.
BTW, - beautiful Strat, in the classic Tele " T.V" colors,- finishing a similar Partscaster ,as we speak.
i've put a classic big muff pi before the tc electronic rusty fuzz, played a es335 copy by richwood thru it into a 36 year old evans L1 10 wat ss amp. some tone and fuzz tweaking gave me a satisfying sound . i actually took of for hours on it , set me on fire
play what you have , and tweak , you will find a likeable sound , thats what i think.
Definitely a fuzz aficionado. Definitely already bought one.
“It doesn’t feel like a big muff.......”.
Minim is one of my favorite pedals I own, got it a few months ago.
The Frogger and Pitfall cartridges did it for me! : )
The Imperial Fuzz blew me away. Had to grab one and was lucky to get it 70 (USD) bucks off and it is a mammoth impact.
On the legends of "Ripped Speakers," Elliot Randall's solo on Reelin' In The Years was also said to have been played thru a ripped speaker. Just wanted to add that, I figure there might be some Steely Dan fans here. Zeppelin rules.
that post rock jam sounded like mono colliding with god speed... or is that explosions in the sky? awesome stuff
