Presence and presentation. You could see it in this woman's eyes before she said, 'He's beautiful.' From there you could see the involvement - immediate acceptance and engagement. The voice from that guy is what sold. I thought Janis Joplin's voice was awesome by recording until I was a few feet from her in '69. Bobby was only 25 when he did this and was a consummate professional. The stroking of your hair was exactly the response the song wanted to provoke. This is exactly why songs today cannot hold a candle to anything done from the 1950's to the 1980's...... THAT was talent.
There’s still millions of tracks with vocoals recorded without any pitch correction (which started in the 70s) today. But at this time it was common for artist to lip-sync for tv shows and live performances. I think we should understand, since the invention of recording there is some kind of manipulation and editing done for major release. Technology shouldn’t really determine an artist greatness.

Absolutely one of the all-time greatest love songs and ballads, a timeless classic. This is a solo piece for Mr. Bobby Hatfield, countertenor. In other songs you will get to see/hear the other half of the duo, Mr. Bill Medley, bass-baritone. Bobby’s voice is quite high as you heard, and Bill’s voice is actually quite low. Love your reaction! The song Unchained Melody is a theme song based on the 1955 film Unchained, hence the song title. It is one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century but most notably by the famous Righteous Brothers. Bobby Hatfield's solo became the juke box standard. Hatfield changed the melody of the final version, and many covers of his song was based on his version. He sang the song live and flawlessly, which makes it even more amazing. Hatfield was one of the greatest singers of all time!
Back in those days, the rock n' roll performers did ballads like this masterpiece. Even hearing it today really brings emotions that we all had as young people becoming adults and the highs and lows of love. I am over 60 now, but the really great performers & their legacy songs still get to me. Thank you.
Bobby Hatfield was perhaps the finest singer of his generation, and when combined with Bill Medley, his partner in The Righteous Brothers, they were the finest singing duo of their time, narrowly beating out the Everly Brothers. I saw them live 2 or 3 times back in the early 1960's. Tremendous talent.

Your appreciation of Bobby's performance here is very much appreciated. No one. Repeat NO one has ever done it as well as he did. Save yourself a lot of time and trouble and just believe me.
I Bisscute, I’m really glad you liked this video. Yes it was a simpler time back then. We didn’t have cellphones, computers, RUclips, etc. We didn’t have instant gratification with most everything like today. Even the media took awhile and that’s if we even had a tv or were at home at all. Todays video is what we saw back then too. Please tell us if you are aware of Motown and if you would like to react to some of those performances. Thank you as usual for your excellent critique of todays video. ❤️
Loved your reaction and commentary on how some "older" songs better show real talent. That's why, for example, reactors who listen to Karen Carpenter are amazed by her voice. For another great example of the Righteous Brothers where both of them are singing, listen to You've Lost That Loving Feeling.
Back even before my time - talent was necessary to excel in the arts. That meant putting the work in because the shortcuts were few compared to today. Also, society has changed where many are moved by shock value instead of skills. Just about anyone has a chance at their "15 minutes of fame". But most don't realize that it's talent and acquired skill that makes one hard to forget. 30 years from now, people will be viewing clips like this and reveling in the artistry. A majority of current "artists" will be forgotten within the next few years.
Such a great reaction! 🍪 Now that you appreciate this song the award winning movie Ghost (1990) will hit even more. One of my Patreon romance movie suggestions for Valentine's Day btw
Bisscute...Thank you for being one of the very few reviewers who are mature and sophisticated enough to talk about the voice of the artist and the soul and emotion they are able to exude. So many of the other reviewers are hung up on the stuff that doesn't matter...the pink sport coat, the cuteness factor, etc. They don't begin to understand the extent of his technical range and incredible control. Some of the reviewers literally giggle during the playback and attempt to sing along. Thank you for adding a large dose of intelligence and reality to this format.
The late Roy Orbison was a singer in the 60's and has an extensive list of wonderful songs. To some he is a legend. I find that as his voice matured, it only got richer as he got older. One of my favorites is "In Dreams"; from the 2019 "Black and White Night 30". Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Hi, back then you needed raw talent no help no gimmicks, encouraged to create, deepnest, soul, the instrument you played, ex: led zep, pink floyd, no duplicate ex: boy bands, don't care what people say, old music was the best 👍nice of you to notice and feel it biss 👏
Great reaction Madalina. I agree completely with you that the music today is oversaturated with too many artists that rely on technology to help them. You should maybe try Pentatonix, Voiceplay, or Home Free. All three are accaoella groups. All or almost all of the sounds you hear are produced by their bodies. Also a question: what happened to the gaming channel? It's not listed on your youtube channels anymore.
This was a life performance and he was very nervous as this is the first time his mother was in the audience watching him. Correct no auto-tune nothing pure Raw Talent
Your Biscuit, I truly enjoyed you putting the song on your show, as you may or may not know, the Righteous Brothers were the first of The Blue-Eyed Soul. . . It was truly a remarkable era! Biscuit, I replayed this video and pay particular attention to your response. . . I believe you fell in love with more than just the song! :-)
This song was a late, 60's or early 70's song by Tommy James and the Shondells, Crimson and Clover. This was our song after were were married and this was 53 yrs. ago this past July. The opening of the song is very unique, and I purchased it for her for Christmas and while she was in the other room I played it on our CD player. She heard the first note and came out of the other room crying!! It still affects us that way.
Your review is spot on. Todays talent couldn't hold a candle to the true artists of the early 50's and 60's singers. When todays teens discover The Righteous Brothers, Dell Shannon, Johnnie Mathias, Isaac Hayes they tend to forget todays artist who are so full of themselves and listen to The Oldies of their parents.
Bobby Hatfield's Unchained Melody is singular in ANY time period. For me, it is hands down the most beautiful, heartfelt vocal performance I've ever witnessed. Bobby Hatfield pours his soul into every word and note. His ability to project the emotional intent of the song is captivating and I am mesmerized from start to finish. I was listening to music in the 1960s and so much of it was loved and terrific. I would never lump this exquisite performance in with all the others. For me, this performance is incomparable and deserves that acknowledgement. 🤍 💜🕊
This was recorded live. The lip tug at the end was because his parents were in the audience and although he had a cold,he knew he nailed it. It has to be one of the best performances of all times.
It's real music and real talent! They didn't need the fancy tools they use today like auto-tune etc. Bisscute. You should call yourself Damncute! 🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️💋💋💋💋🦊🦊🦊🦊
The perfection of Bobby Hatfield's voice in this song, ~ that rare and exquisite pure, powerful, soaring tenor, the tenderness, passion and sweetness of his rendition. His finance and his mother were in the audience. Unchained Melody was originally written for a 1955 movie set in a prison, hence the named Unchained Melody, a lonely prisoner sang it, longing for his love. She couldn't join him because he was incarcerated.
Real musicians,no auto tune and no help. Real talent... Bobby's mother was in the audience for the first time ,seeing him sing live for the first time. I guess he was nervous and singing to her.... 👍
I know I am not alone when I say I LOVE your idea of doing a "throwback" series of videos. There are dozens of great artists and songs recorded in the years before "auto tune" 1965 - I was 14 at that time. I remember how the girls (my older sisters and their friends) and women would swoon whenever this recording was played on radio. They would lean in turn up the volume, close their eyes...
Wow, This song just gave the chills. Haven’t heard this in many years. Currently, I love listening to Loren Allred singing Never Enough live with David Foster. This song also gives me chills. Also watch her on Britain’s Got Talent.
In 1965 when he sang this in front of a live audience he only had a crude microphone that only increased the volume on his voice. You are looking at and listening to the absolute best TV performance of a male vocalist in the 20th century.
Young lady, In one word this is class. Musical perfection!!! For decades women have swooned to Bobbie singing this classic. Many consider this the greatest love song EVER. Watch for the lip bite. These men did what they did with God given talent. NOT studio magic and tricks.. Take care.
@Bisscute, you're commentary and reaction deserve an A+++ Why? Because the poetic found its way into both sound and language especially in this song. You felt it and put it into words. Raw and debased is not elegant. We are witnessing Heaven's poetry contra Hell's artificial productions. Thanks for your video.

Like other commenters, I am pleased and proud to say this is one of the pieces I grew up with - and there was so much music that was mind blowing. Your appreciation of Bobby's performance here is very much appreciated. No one. Repeat NO one has ever done it as well as he did. Save yourself a lot of time and trouble and just believe me.
@julieenslow5915
Another great post, Bobby owns the song!
live, no auto tune, pure talent
Right? amazing ❤

This is actual talent. Something you don't see now a day's
Watching the joy on your face was worth more than any spoken reaction. Thank you!
Watching your reaction to the song is priceless! Thank you for not hiding your feelings!
Loved your reaction and commentary on how some "older" songs better show real talent. That's why, for example, reactors who listen to Karen Carpenter are amazed by her voice. For another great example of the Righteous Brothers where both of them are singing, listen to You've Lost That Loving Feeling.
A few decades ago this beautiful song was my wife and I ‘s wedding song. I love hearing it. Thank you 😊
1965, I was 8 years old when I heard this tune, now still it gives me goosebumps! Love your reaction! ❤
Absolutely! Roy was another one of my favorites and such a great voice!
Hi, back then you needed raw talent no help no gimmicks, encouraged to create, deepnest, soul, the instrument you played, ex: led zep, pink floyd, no duplicate ex: boy bands, don't care what people say, old music was the best 👍nice of you to notice and feel it biss 👏
your face whilst listening is so entertaining to see as you had a moment of love.... beautiful!
Girl you give the correct comment indeed. The artists of the golden 60s never come back.! Pure talent. Greetings from Belgium
Really nice to see a young person see and enjoy something I grew up with.
No auto tune ,no gimmicks recorded live one take TALENT

I got to see this on live TV in 1965 and they had no technology to improve your voice then. His voice is completely natural and he was just that good.
Wonderful song, thanks for playing.
Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers is one of my very favorite songs.
This is the greatest song of all time
No autotune, no computer enhancements.....just Bobby and the microphone.
So glad you were able to go back in time to that particular moment.
Your reactions are the best on RUclips, hands down. Thank you!
His performance ist just awesome. period.
I was impressed from the first note from his mouth. He has a fabulous voice.
I had the same reaction when I first heard it back IN 1965 !! Still one of my favs.
Amazing
She couldn't join him because he was incarcerated.
a man his soul and talent. no electronics, no fake. pure ability and soul... and he was still nervous because his parents were in the hall
Real musicians,no auto tune and no help.
Real talent...
Bobby's mother was in the audience for the first time ,seeing him sing live for the first time.
I guess he was nervous and singing to her....
👍
He sings this many different ways, all of them great.
Yes, he was really killing it ! And I loved watching you love it !
Awee thank you, glad you loved it ♥
I know I am not alone when I say I LOVE your idea of doing a "throwback" series of videos. There are dozens of great artists and songs recorded in the years before "auto tune"
1965 - I was 14 at that time. I remember how the girls (my older sisters and their friends) and women would swoon whenever this recording was played on radio. They would lean in turn up the volume, close their eyes...
Lady, you smile like an angel. You are beautiful!
I love hearing the younger generations falling love with the music I grew up to...
Back then it was pure talent!😊😊 You can't go wrong with the classics 😊😊
Such a truly beautiful song. Others may come close, even very close, but none can ever be better. 😊
The best interpretation of the best love song ever. Period.
I'm old enough to been lucky enough to have seen this this lot live
Young lady,
In one word this is class. Musical perfection!!! For decades women have swooned to Bobbie singing this classic. Many consider this the greatest love song EVER. Watch for the lip bite.
These men did what they did with God given talent. NOT studio magic and tricks.. Take care.
I was 16 in 1969. The music was PHENOMENAL and nothing today (or in the 80's, 90's or beyond) can even contend. It was a phenomenal time to grow up !!
My mom's brother was on the traveling band for them playing the saxophone. He had a lot of great stories. He just passed away he was almost 90.
