I learn so much from The Chosen, but then you two come in and put in all under a biblical microscope and make it even richer. Thanks for breaking it down for us!
Hi Sam& Dr Tom!! I’ve missed you guys!! I missed your livestream but I wanted to say thank you for your deep dives on the Chosen’s season four- first episode!! I love your insights!! I learn so much about Scripture from you both!! Looking forward to hearing more from you on future episodes and more about Scripture!! Blessings to you both and to your families!!🙏🙏🙏😍😍😍
My family was in Jordan in April. We went to this location. It’s absolutely amazing. The floor of the hall where she danced is still there. Around the base are many caves that could be used as prisons. It was very surreal to be there.
Yay!! I was so happy to see a video from you pop up. You are right about the Will Ferrell similarity. That is what I will think of every time I see Joanna's creepy husband whose name I can never remember. I missed you guys. Welcome back!
And when Caligula came to power, he refused to support Herod Antipas and instead had him and Herodias exiled to Gaul where they disappeared from history.
Wasn't Phillip her father? 🤔 They were such a messed up bunch! 😕 No wonder the human genome has gotten so messed up, too. You know all these people have descendants alive today and they're still passing on those degraded genes. Such a tragedy. 😢
As followers of Christ, we might still hurt inwardly when someone calls our sin out, but we'll ultimately be thankful because we can become closer to Him as He works on us. I myself still struggle with sexual sin, but I'm doing way better than I was! I've had to get very practical with these issues and it's honestly miraculous I'm doing like I am with everything that's happened in my life and my circumstances right now. Please continue praying I can resist sin and become even more conformed to the image of Jesus.
This sin is best dealt with by deflecting one's attention to something else---another topic or activity, preferably on an intellectual, artistic, or even social improvement level.
@@UrsulaPainter Yep, I'm hoping to get an online job very soon which should help too. I've had health issues and they have prevented me from having a job in person. I know God's timing is perfect, but it's still been hard to be patient. Thanks for the comment! It's so true.
Was waiting to finish till world premiere Chosen 4 episode 3 before watching Grafted's reaction video to S4 ep1-3 (to avoid the spoilers hehe) . So my heart skipped a beat when I saw that you had a reaction video solely for episode 1 🙏😊 watching from Philippines 🎉
I loved this!! Such great information and expansion of what was deeper than The Chosen could have portrayed. But coming the two make it really rich. Thank you!
I feel silly because it never occurred to me that Joanna was Jewish. I think it's because she and her husband are using American accents, which usually signifies Romans
I have been waiting for a new video upload from both of you for a while now. Right after watching The Chosen Season 4 episode 1 livestream, I was checking your channel every now and then to see if there's a new upload. Am I so happy to see this new video and it did not disappoint. I learned so many new info and details again. It's like pieces of a huge puzzle being shared by you each time. Looking forward to more videos and discussions about the Biblical times :)
How wonderful to learn new tidbits that ties it all together. Is there a course that can be taken that helps to learn the side notes. You guys are awesome. I look forward to future videos.
Such a great episode, thank you! There is a wonderful book about John the Baptist - A biography, by Charles Croll that you might also find interesting, Keep up the great work guys!
I really love watching your reactions. I l really enjoy your corny Bible nerd humor, I laugh all the time. And you always teach me new things. I love the Bible and find it fascinating so learning from you is awesome. Thank you so much. ❤
Love the diving deeper and appreciate your knowledge. I only find mentioning of Joanna a few times in scripture, specifically in Luke's Gospel. ( 3:27,8:3 & 24:10). No mention of her via Josephus either.
I think Herodias was afraid that Herod would think too much of what John was accusing him of and have her put away. This form of execution puts the blame on the king, not herself.... but we all know it's what she wanted
I don't remember reading about Joanna in the Bible. I just assumed it was a character they added to make the story of the deciples, and Jesus come to life more. What chapters and verses tells about her?
Luke 8:1-3-provided monetary support for Jesus' ministry. Luke 23:55-56-went to the tomb with the other women. Luke 24:20-ran to tell the Apostles that Jesus had risen. Luke mentions that her husband, Chuza, was the manager of Herod's household. Like Mary Magdalene, Joanna was also released from demons
I have to watch this to see the context concerning Salome, but a Salomé is mentioned in the Bible… In the gospel of Mark chapter 15:40, and chapter 16: 1 (no background though)
QUESTION-How do you read Josephus? Like the Bible or as a reference book? I have it but don’t know the best way to tackle it. This is a strange question I know lol
@Grafted Brandon Snipe once did an entire video on the Herodians. Made me want to take a shower. Holy cow! You need index cards to figure out their relationships!
@@pkmcnett5649 That's not possible. It's the show taking unbiblical liberties with his appearance, just like it's taking unbiblical liberties with Christ's appearance. John was only months older than Jesus, and living in the wilderness wouldn't have drastically altered his appearance by itself.
@theeternalsbeliever1779 maybe you are right. I also expected John the Baptist to be big, strong guy, not a small dude. I think he was imposing like Elijah would have been.
Curious: if Salome was Herodias's step-daughter -- if I have that right -- any thought why she would conspire with the woman who replaced her mother to have John executed? (Sorry if I have all this wrong.)
So, when Jesus told John the Baptist he didn't need to go waltzing to King Herod (Chosen S3E5 I think), maybe it was because the Nepotian (spelling?) king was already gonna send the message? Cool insight.
In the show, it appears that she headed out to find Andrew before the execution was over. What witnesses are you referring to? Am I overlooking something in scripture? All I see is that his disciples took his body and buried him; not that any of them witnessed the execution.
I just mean that she was likely at Machaerus because of her husband's role as the finance minister. And therefore, she would have had knowledge of exactly what happened to John!
If Philip was Nabatean... He was an Ishmealite, since Nabajoth was one of Ishmael's sons. He was not Jewish or Israelite. Herod the Great was Idumean, which means he was Edomite... progeny of Esau. Both received their positions because of patronage to Rome. (In other words, the highest bidder) Herod's court would have been a motley crowd of Idumeans, Jewish sycophants, and Ishmaelites... If what you say is correct...
John the Baptizer did not become irrelevant. He was the forerunner of the end-time Elijah that Isaiah, Malachi, and Christ Himself prophesied about. John the Baptizer was the mold for this end-time prophet, so a true bible student can know what this man was supposed to be like just by looking at how ppl reacted to the work John did for God prior to Christ's ministry.
This show sucks so bad lol. Feels so unrealistic / inauthentic. Very American/protestant and not like the people/period of the time. No matter how many easter egg trivia knowledge they include depicting Jewish people/life… it just doesn’t look believable.
@@pkmcnett5649 I don’t feel like I’m watching ancient people/life of the near east. They look and act like modern western evangelicals in costumes - and the silly fake accents don’t help.

Exactly what I was thinking and going to come and say. Big thanks!
Thank you for tying in all the historic and archaeological info which always makes the Bible account so much more dynamic

And when Caligula came to power, he refused to support Herod Antipas and instead had him and Herodias exiled to Gaul where they disappeared from history.

Philip may have been Salome's stepfather.

So So Excited about You Guys commenting on this season!!
I believe that Herodias is related to Herod and his brother Phillip, too.
I think so, too. The Herodian family tree is a circle.
I think Joanna's husband looks like Wayne Rogers (Trapper John). :)

THANK YOU FOR THE BIBLICAL INFO.. GOD BLESS YOUR MINISTRY AND FAMILIES.. 80 YEAR OLD FROM THE TOPS OF THE MOUNTAINS ISAIAH 2
There is none born to women, is there any greater than John The baptist
I wish they had not made John the Baptist look so old. He was only possibly a year older than his cousin, Jesus.
He had lived a more difficult life than Jesus, it probably would have aged him.
@@pkmcnett5649 That's not possible. It's the show taking unbiblical liberties with his appearance, just like it's taking unbiblical liberties with Christ's appearance. John was only months older than Jesus, and living in the wilderness wouldn't have drastically altered his appearance by itself.

Too many Herod-type names. 😂

Early clips of S5 so far show her as joining the followers on the road, likely entering Jerusalem with them for that final week.
Dude on the right says something interesting, dude on the left says wow.

What poor Israelis were forced to fight a war for Herod whom they hated.
I only have one complaint!!! Your videos are long enough 😁
8 minutes? C’mon fellas….
There did not need to be a witness present... the Holy Spirit inspired the Bible writers.
Wow? Can we have a little bit more intelligent conversation than repetitive "wow"?
Interesting indeed since you may be the supporters of Herod in my case before YHVH. Go figure, huh?
There is no substitute for the Word of God.
What was John the Baptists purpose?
Everything He did became irrelevant the moment Jesus died on the Cross .
I really don’t know
He was the voice in the wilderness. It is written right there.
