    I remember once when I was around 8 years old I was at the airport and my bloodsugar was really low to the point I was close to fainting. My mom didnt have any food with her. A man saw and he brought us a little box filled with candies from the vending machine, and then accompanied my mom and I until I was in a stable condition. Although to him it might've seemed like a small act of kindness, I will never forget it. Be kind, because it may mean a lot to someone.

    This is really touching. I am a Type 1 Diabetic myself. Since 18 years. This is really good awareness and it should be taken great importance too. I would suggest (speaking from hypoglycemic experience) that liquids are more easier to absorb like juice or flavored/ plain milk. Anything that is easily accessible to the body!

    • @steam_jane5580
      @steam_jane5580 Год назад

      good tip. I have heard of the 15 rule ( 15 carbs, check BG after. But I am not diabetics I I don't know about it) and as you say something like a juice box is easier to consume and perfect for this.
      It is also worth asking if they have any allergies, you don't want to risk an anaphylactic shock on top of this. If they are too confused and you have no information on them or anyone who knows them err on the side of caution with big allergens like nuts.
      Edit: I mean common, not big

    Videos like this are a nice reminder of the good people out there. I had vertigo (the world spins) last year from dehydration and migraines from overworking on top of my usual 6 per week gym sessions. I remember I loss my hearing, I was stumbling in half circles and I made my way off the train, up the stairs until I hit the food court and threw myself on top of the table until the person I was meeting arrived to give me water. A good hour where no one helped despite it being peak hour.

      @ᄏᄏ루삥뽕빵뽕빠빙뽕뽕뽕뽕뽕뽕뽕뽕 많은 분둘이 당뇨는 단걸 많이 먹어 생기는 거라 생각하시죠. 하지만 당뇨는 종류가 여러가지 있습니다. 일반적인 소아당뇨 1형은 선천적으로 나타나지만 많은 분들이 대부분 초등 고학년 때 알게되죠. 소아당뇨 1형은 단걸 많이 먹어서ㅜ생기는게 아니라 선천적으로 췌장에서 인슐린 분비가 안돼서 당을 조절할 수 없어요. 그래서 당이 오르면 인슐린 주사를 놓고 저혈당이면 단걸 먹는거죠.
      그리고 노인분들께서 많이 걸리시는 ㄷ당뇨는 늙어서 췌장기능이 악화되는 경우로 인슐린 주사 그런것도 잘 안놓고 약으로만 치료한다 하더라구요. 상태에 따라 다르겠지만..
      참고로 친구가 소아당뇨 1형이라 주사맞는것도 많이 봤습니당.

    저도 저희집앞에서 발작을 일으키시며 쓰러지신 아주머니 한분을 본적이있어요. 마침 가족이 세명이서 밥먹고 오는길이라 아빠께서 그분 의식을 확인하고, 의식이 없다는걸 확인후 입고 계시던 겉옷을 벗어 덮어주셨어요. 그리고 엄마는 119에 신고를 하시고 어쩔줄 모르고 엉엉울던 저와 아빠는 그분의 팔과 다리를 주물러 드렸어요. 구급차는 얼마지나지않아 도착했고, 그분께선 구급차를 타시고 병원으로 가셨어요. 전 그분이 힘겹게 절 보며 말씀하신 "애기 고마워요...... " 라는 한마디가 기억에 참 남네요. 몇년전 일이지만 건강하셨으면 좋겠어요.

      You can search on the internet, but for the sake of your convenience, I'll copy-paste this description of a diabetic person when their blood sugar level is low:
      "If your blood sugar drops below 70 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL), you may have symptoms, such as feeling tired, weak, or shaky. If your blood sugar drops very low (usually below 20 mg/dL) and you do not get help, you could become confused or drowsy or even lose consciousness and possibly die."
      Edit: I just want to add that, while chocolate does have sugar and can potentially help someone with low blood sugar, it is not the best way to treat it.

    Having diabetes like him and knowing how he is feeling when having a hypo makes my eyes tear up. I especially feel more like a burden than I normally would to everyone when I am hypoglycaemic (low blood sugar). I start to feel weak all over, I start to shake uncontrollably and I start to feel dizzy. I normally decline their help even though it’s bad but I’m just glad to know their are such kind people out there willing to stop and help. ☺️😢😁

    PLEASE READ:
    When someone is hypo, try to give them carbs with less fat. If they are in the form of a drink, they are faster acting and help people to recover quickly. They are likely to complain bitterly about still being hungry but ignore this and wait for 10 minutes to see if their bloods improve a little. If they are still going down, give more food. Don't leave them and try to start a conversation, the most dangerous thing you can do is let them fall asleep.
    Don't get mad if they don't remember or act a bit grumpy, they feel really unwell and usually are scared. Often people don't remember what they do when hypo.
    Try to prevent them from walking off/running while hypo because they have no sense of danger and running can be their last instinct before collapse. Try to keep them away from dangerous areas and just sit with them until they begin to feel less dizzy and improve.

    • @EffyKai
      @EffyKai 4 года назад +13

      You can carry glucose tablets with you to help someone. But make sure they are conscious and can eat. You don't put food/drink in someone's mouth by force. You can also get a glucagon kit and learn how to use it if you have a diabetic friend or relative (you turn them on their right side cause glucagon can make them vomit, and inject in the quadricep muscle of the leg, if glucose won't go up use another glucagon kit) in case of severe hypo/unconsciousness. Time is of the essence then and by the time the ambulance arrives it may be too late. And it has an expiration date of two years so it lasts long. Over here it costs 12eu only to buy without prescription, free with prescription. When they recover from the hypo you can give them nuts as the fat and protein helps the glucose to remain more stable
