Only three types of Philips screw drivers for laptop repairs you will need sizes: #1, #0, #00. My laptop CQ42 has a single cooling fan over the micro-processor, although many systems, particularly larger gaming and entertainment systems may have two or more fans to circulate air over the processor, graphics hardware and hard drive. More often than not, the fans get clogged with dust, debris and dirt, which can make them noisy and lower their cooling efficiency. If your system is making a whirring or grinding noise or is overheating, this repair is for you.
I would suggest you first try to clean the dirt by the following method.
Find the place where fresh air comes in and hot air escapes, usually one or more slotted grills on the side or bottom of the laptop. Insert the plastic pipe of compressed air can on to each vent and blow out all the dust that you can. You might need to put on a dust mask. You can mouth blow also using a cool drink straw. If your laptop is new only and not very old then try this as this might help, you will not have to open your machine.
Only, if above method doesn’t fix things, open the case. There are generally about a dozen screws on the bottom of the case that you’ll need to remove to open the case. CQ42 model requires you to remove the keyboard to get inside. This RUclips video is great for learning this stuff to find out how your case opens.
So this will also help in repairing a Computer that Freezes or Runs Slowly. Also, remember that you might need to give your computer a bit of rest and check if it helps in reducing the freezes.
Important Notes:
Avoid wearing any clothing that produces a lot of static, as a invisible spark can damage hardware and cause intermittent, hard-to-troubleshoot problems in motherboard.
Take off any jewelry that might get in the way, especially metallic wrist bands or loose watches.
If you have long hairs, tie it back.
Shut down and allow the laptop to cool down before opening the case.
Be sure that its the processor that's heating up and so your need is to clean the air vents and the fans.
Be sure the hard disk, CD / DVD player, compatibility of software and hardware for both graphics processor and micro-processor is OK. This might be causing heating up not the cooling system. To run a diagnostics check on CQ42. Power on the laptop and immediately start pressing F2 on startup to access the diagnostic menu. Select Start Up Test, Quick, One Pass (if option is present) to begin the testing process. Write down any error codes and consult the internet, the computer manufacturer or a local technician whosoever is available for assistance. Take a decision accordingly.
