I know so many people we're worried about you losing your garden when you said y'all we're moving. I'm so happy that you are getting some things from your garden.

Your buckets need some more soil. Especially those potatoes. You should be adding dirt or mulch to the top of the soil in the potato pots. The potatoes will get bigger if you do. You definitely need to pick the green beans as they come in. When the fruit stays on the plant, the plant thinks it's job is done and will stop producing fruit. Plus the green beans will get tough and bitter. This goes for most plants in general. The more you harvest, the more fruit you will get.
I know a lot of people who have pepper plants that are not doing great. Mine are the same. I think it's the extreme weather (too much water and now too much heat). They aren't dying but they just aren't growing much either.
Also, your herbs...you need to pair like herbs together. Rosemary and thyme should be planted together. They are more woody and and have similar needs. They need a bit more water and minerals than other herbs like parsley, cilantro, basil, etc. If you plant thyme with parsley for example, the thyme will take minerals from the parsley. Herbs also need to be harvested often so they will grow more and more. You can cut half the plant off near the bottom and it will grow back. Make sure you are also feeding your plants every 2 weeks with a high quality plant food.
Every year you will get better and better. I learn something new every year that helps us keep the food we grow. Just stick with it and learn from mistakes AND successes. ❤ Love watching your channel.❤

Definitely pick the beans so the plant keeps producing. If you let them hang the plant will think it has done its job and stop growing and producing. :) Love love your garden! 😍

Hey Tamara! I have a garden tip for you. Thin out the carrots a little bit. It makes what carrots still on the ground bigger.

You need to pick those beans and keep them in the fridge while the others come in to keep them producing. Otherwise, if the beans hang on the vine, they’ll think their production job is done & won’t make more beans.

Most people would say gardening is hit or miss depending on the weather. I'd say your garden looks spectacular given all the rain & now the extreme heat. Keep it up!! Can't wait to see how it's doing in July!!

  • @thegraymarlin

I don’t think it’s your herb planter. Herb seeds are difficult to start from seed. Most need heat mats to germinate. I have never had luck starting any herbs from seed except for basil. I suggest starting your seeds in a tray with a heat mat and light and then transplanting to your planter or just buy starts 😊
Gardening is so fun and rewarding but also so frustrating and definitely a lesson in patience! Thanks for sharing Tamara!

Your garden is doing great and regardless of the weather. I never got anything planted because of the weather. It’s been either rain daily or extreme heat here in Va too. Just pat yourself on the back for doing good

Leave your peas in the pods in the vine and let them dry naturally in the pods. Once they are dry crack open the pods and spread them out for about a week to completely dry. You can either save the seeds for next spring or even plant later in the summer for a crop in the fall. 🙂

One day, you will have your homestead garde! I grew all my herbs in grow bags this year and their thriving despite the heat, they also sit on my deck where they get full sun til noon then shaded rest of day. I had hardly any peas too. I live in zone 7. Sorry about your watermelon Tamara. Your garden is still beautiful, year 3 is going to be better!

Definitely pick the beans. They will keep coming. I've also heard that you can plant peas from the grocery store. A bag of dried peas. Maybe Bean also. I haven't tried. Your garden looks great 👍. I did try to root basil and it worked great. When it goes to (not sure how to word it) goes to flower but now really flower yet?? 😆. Make sense? Just put it in water and it will re root. Can't wait to see your huge homestead garden. Have a great weekend

Don't just leave the green beans on there. If you keep picking, they will keep blooming. Plus, the ones you leave the bugs could get them and then you won't have them either. Trust me, I know from experience. So sorry about your herbs. They would probably do better like you said in a different place.

Do you know if it's to late to plant the small cherry tomatoes in a pot? It says it's recommended to plant them in a small pot. And some red bell peppers?
