"doesn't matter what holiday...just keep spending money" Funny and savagely accurate, all at once
Happy Shopmas to you, too. :)

The thumbnail for this has to be the greatest thumbnail in RUclips history.
definitely the best board gaming duo out there, here, whenever, forever, they were meant to be together....
The credits scene proves that you should pivot to rules explainers videos with your third host there as the learner.
Always enjoy watching your board game reviews, and channel content. Keep it coming.
"But what will it cost?" That's actually a great thing about this game. A little meatier than Century Spice Road, but for the same price. Thanks for the video!
Finally got Sidereal Confluence back to the table after over a year. Still as great as I remember. Sprawling, messy and just so much fun.
Only played Furnace once so far, but it's neat. Very quick and streamlined.
As usual it is a blast to watch you both banter about games. Having played this one I think the review is spot on. Great job and I love love love the humor. So good. 🙂
I've never been more keenly aware of the innate inequality in the world, than when I understood that Efka can be Ernest, but I can't be Efka.
Great stuff, some wonderfully laugh out loud moments. The JonGetsGames shirt looks grand 👍
Fantastic video because of your interaction - thanks for taking the time to make it
Love the Petxplaing...
Intricate video of a game, I'll be receiving soon and really want to play!
You really are the only channel I will watch about a game when I already know I have no interest in the game. Your videos are just so fun!
The thumbnail is amazing.
Maybe I’m burned out but these resource conversion euros just don’t excite me. It seems like every couple months there’s a new one rising in the hotness on BGG.
Love your story telling of a game. Goal of mine to get even 1/2 way 😁
Amazing teaching skills Efka!
Furnace for me was a rather light game. As the game progressed, the card chain got longer, but lacked the excitement and intensity of building card combos in most engine builders like in RFTG. Felt like an accountant moving resources/numbers on a balance sheet. Overall, experience felt bland. Not bad, just bland.
Love your haircut, Efka!
This is possibly my favorite thumbnail
"There's more than one way to skin a coal, and finding the optimal solution is the coin at the end of the stick." - Monty Python levels of top drawer silliness.
Great video, nice shirt ;)
After seeing SU&SD's video about Furnace, and now this one... I think I need to get this game.
Every video should end with trying to explain the game to your dog, I loved it
I find Res Arcana better than this and actually works great at 2 which is what I play most at.
I don't actually see how this game really has any similarities to Res Arcana. Yes they use cards that can convert resources, but apart from that they don't really feel anything alike. I really love this, but I really, really bounced of Res Arcana hard.
@@rachelbrown989 I mean they literally say it's better than any other games where you collect ressources to turn into other ressources. And compare to splendor, century etc...
None of those are exactly the same either.
I HATE Res Arcana. Does that mean I wouldn't enjoy Furnace?
@@zmollon Depends why you didn't like it.
@@aSyphodias far too long at any player count more than two. If I want engine building there are a million better games that move more quickly and where players are less prone to analysis paralysis.
Great video with well-organized and articulated content. The game appears to be quite enjoyable to play. Thank you
I like both your new haircuts. Good vid too.
You made it sound fun! I really like the art too.
Love your videos. Just wanted to say that. Thanks.
It's appreciated!
Sometime a game is just a game.
Brilliant review. Yes, Elaine i think you do need to fire Efka for that terrible joke. (Or make him your minion)
Without having played it, it reminded me of Res Arcana in terms of really trying to optimise something which may be imperfect to align with some cards your opponents may deprive you of and with very limited time to get it right. Any thoughts on this comparision?
That thumbnail has massive Rupert Grint vibes…
I beg your pardon - it´s Great Western Aluuuuuminum!
I wonder if the Americans would like it if we dropped letters from their words as well, like "Amerca". They are now "Amercans".
Actually, we're 'Mericans.
@@TorIverWilhelmsen Plenty of 'Murcans pronounce it "'Murca" already. We like to make fun of them.
hahah that marvel pun was genuinely funny
Any thoughts on where It's a Wonderful World falls into the scale of engine building cube pushers?
yayyyy shes back!
Yo this thumbnail tho!!!
Intro has me worried I'll want this.
Thanks. I was playing bidding backwards in that the lowest value bid gets the card. I need to try it correctly.
Furnace is a fantastic game
I wish I could give an additional thumb up for the +Elaine videos.
This video was followed by an advert for Ubisoft's "Monopoly Madness". Given their record for employee sexual abuse and crunch working practices, perhaps the algorithm detected the cynicism re. capitalism and matched it appropriately?
Huzzah Capitalism
I really like the look of the mechanisms in this one, but I will wait until it’s wrapped in a more appealing theme. I’ve had enough of the top hat 🎩 genre I think.
Excellent video, you two are a treat to watch!
John Bain is rolling in his grave!
TotalBiscuit?!?! 🧐
Actually, I have yet to get a chance to play any of that series. I’ve seen favourable reviews of it from some of the sites I follow, just haven’t been able to get my hands on it as of yet. It does look quite interesting.
What do you see are the quick comparisons? 🤔
@@aarondovauo1471 Indeed. No one can tire of top hats!
You should do videos like the Screen Crush channel, " board games explained to a dog "
I'll wait for the Golem Edition.
Christmas came early.
It's not so much a holiday as a Harvester buffet phase.
9:00 The answer to Elaine's question is of course... Biggy Smalls
Could you please tell me what has been your Game of The Year for each year since you started reviewing games? I know For Science! was your choice for 2021.
Sure thing! The Games of the Year

Somehow the game reminds me of Glass Road. Could someone confirm they have a similar feeling? Or is it just me?
Why do I love this game and hate siderial confluence
[Furnace] too little player interaction for my taste. It felt like I was playing alone just to push stuff around to get a high number.
You have the auction phase which only takes up ~2-3 minutes and then everybody is off doing his thing / producing etc ... this over 4 rounds and people give you their scoring number.
Even if you would like to block good moves from other player in the auction -> you would have to know what they need+what their characters ability is. This can get quite complicated in round 3/4 when they have 6+ cards in front of them.
I thought ironman without a suit was just called man
Boy, those capitalists have it rough. I feel awful for the oligarchy, such a burden.
I think you'll find that social mobility was far lower in pre-capitalist economies.
@@steampowered6883 The only two things that have done more to pull humanity up out of entropy than capitalism are democracy and science; Democracy, Science, Capitalism. The excesses played on in Furnace were curbed (in the U.S.) by democracy, our elected representatives, and activists. I concur with you.
That doesn't mean there won't ever be a better system that will eventually surpass capitalism in efficiency and overcome its drawbacks. Probably AI rule.
@@CompuBrains27 I would be very careful about trusting AI. An imperfect being can only create imperfection.
That said, I do agree with your premise generally.
@@dannyslag source?
I came here for the Marvel character reference and I am not disappointed.
I have no interest in the game, but the review is very entertaining :)
Do the rules refer to them as "pucks"?
It is not an Octagonal prism. . . I thought it was candy!!! I can eat it right?
The review was already good, but I want to give a second upvote for "Tony Starkers"
I don't think it's fair to expect every Top Hat game to be Arkwright. I mean yes Furnace could have easily been cake stores, but isn't it okay to be top hats?
Sounds alot like Anno1800.
Winning is for capitalists.
Yawning puppy. Video rating: 5/5 stars.
Boardgames are not food!
Played it and found it to be one of the most dry games out there.
Capitalism... it works! Great line (and perfect sarcastic delivery) in a great review! Thanks Elaine! Thanks Efka!
Hello, a bit of advice, if you want :)
The jokes could use a bit more time to land, in the editing. The public should have the time to laugh and react to the joke, without having to immediately pay attention and listen to the next segment, which eats the previous joke. Great video, thinking about buying this! :D
makes sense right? War is fun, as a game, so why wouldn't another system of unnecessary human misery be fun?
The game looks fun, and I'm in the market for a more interesting Splendor, but the CAPITALISM! theming is just so anti-fun that I gotta pass on it.
Capitalism is not about spending money. It is about private ownership and a free market. It allows for a greater amount of people to have more money to spend. Socialism is about social ownership and no free market. It leads to no middle class, and a small few at the top who get to spend all the money.
Lol 😂😂😂
How ignorant can you be? When you talked about how socialism cannot have a market you already showed how you don't understand anything to the left of neoliberalism. Socialism can have markets, markets and capitalism can be decoupled.
@@chester9585 I did not say it couldn’t have a market. I spoke about free markets. Free markets and socialism are by definition not compatible.
@@boardjamesgeek How can you maintain a free market without guidelines to disallow natural monopolies? Unregulated tend towards power centralization which makes the market unfree. Do you really think that people will try to maintain a free market when it's in their best interest not to? It's easier to get from 100 million to 101 million than to go from 1 dollar to 1 million, with more money you get more power which you can then leverage to siphon money from everyone else.
Did you know that the middle class is now shrinking? While productivity has risen, wages has not kept for everyone not at the top. This comes in our era of slowly removing regulations and social spending.
Why is "Capitalism" such a negative to you?
“So, so far we have theft, greed, exploitation … and we’ve only explained half of this game?”
"in furnace you'll take on the role of a capitalist... those are not my words, the rulebook calls them capitalists"
Talking as it was a dirty word 😂
Well, to many socialism, liberals and communism are also dirty words... To each his own I guess 🙂
Capitalism isn't a negative on its own. Unrestrained capitalism is responsible for many of the world's ills, though. And this game is definitely evoking that end of capitalism.
Well it’s certainly more fun than socialism!
You mean Red outpost?
What do you call Iron man with no suit....inventor of sustainable and unlimited energy. The constant rip on capitalism is very annoying when we all spend $$$ on goods from China. We all buy most of our board games and they all come from China and China is not big on Voluntary actions.
