At the time of shooting this video on 29 Nov 2015, Basi was 35 y.o. FYI the average life expectancy of wild giant pandas is 15-20 years. Ms Shi, Basi's nanny died the following year on March 2016 due to brain hemorrhage. Basi died a year later. RIP to both Ms Shi & Basi.
I'm thinking if pandas are able to form bonds with their human familiars like dogs do, maybe Basi died of depression from missing nanny Shi. I don't doubt that the rest of her keepers were good to her, but maybe she felt the loss of nanny Shi keenly, they said she was already in low spirits several months before she passed. It's been 4 yrs but RIP Basi and nanny Shi.
WoW! I can't stop tearing up..lncredibly touching and incredibly sad to hear that both have moved on to greener pastures. For all that Basi has meant to the world and those that really love her l hope this Beautiful Queen Panda was treated like royalty. The mother of ALL mothers... the Queen of ALL Queens. My darling Tiffany, Nanny passed away from some brain issue (cancer or aneurysm i am not sure) and Basi followed her some months later.
